Def going to have to watch this one ...the pandemic has definitely burned me out and I haven't been able to find any kind of spark to get me going in this new normal.
@jms4406

So having worked hospice for a few years and then ICU now going on 5 years I wanted to get out of nursing several times especially during the delta variant. I've seen many people die before my eyes. On the hospice side it was expected, and on the ICU side you're trying everything you can to save people. I think its great you're covering this. It's one thing to understand the concepts but its another thing to do the inner work of learning to see through the distortions. People get told self care...self care, but I don't think these people realize that to people that arent dealing with their inner life it's another encouragement to detach and avoid. Most of self care suggestions deal with providing distractions rather than processing pain.

First off thank you so much for everything you do and have done these last few years. I can't even begin to imagine what its had to have been like to work in that kind of situation and work in health care during a global pandemic. You and your colleagues and co workers are the real heros and have a strength and resolve most of us will never know. 🙏❤🙏

@@johngallagher72 thank you john I appreciate you saying that. It was very sad and very hard to experience. I know families that were absolutely destroyed. Little kids saying goodbye to their parents via facetime. Never got to touch their mom or dad again. It was horrible that the hospitals were refusing family members to come in and say goodbye. It kept the reality in obscurity and made us look bad because we couldn't directly show people what was happening. Created a lot of distrust. I had one couple where the wife died..husband was hospitalized but confused when he came in so once he improved we had to tell him his wife died and then tell him we didnt know if he would make it...thankfully he made it. I'm so sorry we couldnt do more. We fought so hard to save these people. In the 2 years we lost 17 nurses on our unit that were too stressed and quit. Sometimes people would appear to be doing better and then just crash all the sudden and die. These people had to lay on their stomachs for 18hrs a day and wear bipap masks that blew air in their faces 24hrs per day. Then the doctors would wait to intubate because that's what we were told the research indicated that if intubated they would die so they would slowly deteriorate before our eyes. We were so powerless. After awhile we all just felt numb we couldnt believe what we were seeing

I can’t tell you how spot on this is for me right now i work at cvs as a pharmacy technician and had a mental breakdown last Thursday after a rude customer yelled at me and a coworker told me something that really got on my nerves. So I’m experiencing this. I left work early that day and want to try to work with cvs on making a better work environment for me but I don’t know how.

I like your description on the origins of “learned helplessness theory.” It sounds cruel for the dog though. Yes, it could very well be part of burning out. Feeling not being able to take my passions to the next level. Sometimes I also think it is a matter of no longer giving myself permission to. Feelings of burned out include muted responses to situations. Losing that sense of urgency to do things and physically just not feeing charged up enough to take action or prioritize actions.

Is burnout a sign for us to focus on setting more clear boundaries? Could that be a way to resolve the burden of not having contol on many aspects of our lives? I really like all those educational videos and I would like to watch a video on Disenfranchised grief. It has a significant impact on the partners of a couple or even among co-workers or friends. It is significant on its own

She addresses this at 31:41 Sometimes change is needed because the environment or circumstance you’re in is so out of your control that setting boundaries still doesn’t bring about functional results. Hope this helps.

Sounds like me 🤦 having to go on disability which means no longer able to work like I used to, lost my mom and having to care for her ruined my body even more and I just shut down after she died. Now I'm trying to climb out but I keep getting pushed back down. It's extremely frustrating and depressing.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom . I took care of my mom from the time I was 24 or 25 till I was 40. My mom passed away in 2013. The adjustment to a new solitary life is a challenging one. Just try to enjoy every bit of your new adventure and try to find strength and faith in the fact that your mom will always be with you looking down on you and shining her love every step of the way. 🙏❤🙏

Definitely burned out. On probation. I got in trouble after my grandmother was murdered. I’ve been sober since 2017. I just can’t seem to find the fulfillment I had in my last job. My boss makes it impossible to just do my job and let everyone work in harmony. She loves discontentment. It’s miserable. All of the employees feel this.

Im curious about cognitive problems from burnout. Been working on all these areas in counseling since I had a breakdown from extreme work stress 8months ago but still when I try to do simple work my brain can not figure it out. I feel like I’m recovering from a stroke or tbi and cbt and ifs treatment just isn’t helping
