Trigger warning: in this video I do talk about alcohol consumption and reckless behaviour, if you need to protect yourself from that kind of stuff, I totally understand if this isn't the video for you!

Hi there!
I'm Emily and I had a late diagnosis of Inattentive ADD (a type of ADHD) just two months after my 30th birthday. Finding out I was neurodivergent was scary and exciting, but after seven months of taking 36mg of Concerta XL life is good. Really good!
This vlog starts with me very excited about going out on a girls night out, celebrating the amount I've managed to reduce my dosage Sertraline (an SSRI antidepressant) down (I'm now only taking 50mg!).
I promise that I won't drink too much, and then quickly break that promise. This leads me to a therapy-like session where I talk about how I struggle with moderation generally in my life and how my ADD might contribute to that. I touch on the deep shame and guilt I carry around with me due to these behaviours, and how I hope to work on these going forward. I'm always a work in progress!
Concerta XL is a prolonged/slow/long release stimulant medication (its scientific name is methylphenidate!) used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This medication is sometimes called Ritalin, Daytrana or Focalin - particularly in the US. Other ADHD medications that you might be familiar with are Vyvanse, Dexadrine and Adderall, which are amphetamines, rather than methylphenidates, however, they are all stimulants. This video highlights some of the drug’s effects on my mind, mood and body.
I will be continuing a vlog showing my experience with ConcertaXL as I test out my current dose and through the titration period. (Started on 18mg, now taking 36mg).
Whether you're considering starting Concerta XL, have already begun treatment, are curious about ADHD and its links to depression, or are simply looking for some reassurance that you're not alone, this video is for you.
