There are 2 people in the room,but it's a three way conversation. Me with them. Them with me. And Me with me.

Have you thought about doing a video we can play for our non-adhd family and friends explaining some of this - why we interrupt, how we can get impatient with long stories, etc?
@AntoniasUniverse
@AntoniasUniverse Месяц назад
Yes! I was planning to talk about relationships (like romantic ones), but a general communication video like that would be awesome! I'll definitely work on it, I just have to figure out what the best ways to communicate are... don't want to speak badly on our behalf ❤️ if you have any ideas and specific questions I'd love to hear them too 😊

@@AntoniasUniverse I'm newly diagnosed and still learning about how I function so I don't have anything additional than what is already discussed in this video. I have no concerns about you speaking badly about our traits - every response you gave in this video was positive and informative, just keep doing what you are doing!

Let me tell you that the psychiatrist (who said was a specialist in Adhd) I was going to for my meds, was very irritated because I interrupted her.. 😢 but there were so many things she (wrongly) said about me, I had to...I couldn't wait🤷‍♀️ Everytime I did she was silent for a few seconds and said..."I wasn't finished"... 😔. She also told me that 'other people with adhd didn't need so much help as I did...' when I finally dare to ask for help for things I really knew other (nórmal) people could do themselves. But now she told me that in hér opinion also adhd-ers were not as invalid as I am...😢 I know it is not true, but it hurts so much. Also because I thought Adhd-specialised professionals would understand you (more) than not specialised ones... my expectations were (too) high and I was litterally in shock and tears when she told me those horrible and judgy comments. She also wondered why I could do the few things I cán do and not more...I told her in my opinion I try nów (after periods of depression and burn-out) to feel and react when I reach my borders and not go over them to please others...In hér opinion I had to stretch out those borders because when I was (intellectual) able to do it, I could not ask for help or delegate it.... It was (and is) very painful to meet people who are supposed to understand adhd-brains, hearing say that you just have to work harder to reach the neurotypical way of living (that's where the meds are for!) and not complaing so much and acting as if I were a victim...😢

@@c.neleman6630 Sending you hugs. That doesn´t sound nice. I would expect that she´d knew better than this. Our brain is unique and you shouldn´t change it, just because society wants us to function differently. Maybe you should find someone who understands ADHDers better and would actually encourage you instead of putting you down for the things that are hard for you to control.

One thing I have learned to do to reduce how often I interrupt others - particularly with work - I always have a notepad so when I response pops in my head, I jot a note down to remind me when I get a chance to talk and then it isn’t spinning in my head while they are still talking. Others probably don’t realize that I’m not interrupting as often…I still interrupt at times because I get too charged…so to them, it’s still an interruption 😃. Love the suggestion to give a disclaimer when I do.

This was so useful thank you so much! I used to be sure that I didn't have ADHD because of a video i saw that said "if you dont experience this you dont have ADHD". I'm now looking into getting a diagnosis :) If anyone here is questionning i recommend looking up your symptoms online and read from trustable resources, if you have someone you know that is neurodivergent definitely talk to them about it. When looking at vidéos on social media you should check their credentials and try to take it with a grain of salt (Feel free to correct anything or add to it)

The root cause is important, not the expression of the symptoms, so it's hit or miss with those symptom videos. The big win is that people learn more or get a diagnosis for themselves after that at least.. so don't worry if you don't present the way people expect you to. Get answers if you can - your struggles are valid❤️ I wish you looots of luck ☺️

Hehe, from flow state to potato state. I know the process well…😂 Edit: John Delaney is someone that bugs the sheit out of me. He has made his whole career around dispensing mental health advice and calls himself “dr” without ever mentioning that his background isn’t in mental health. Apparently, it’s some sort of education administration whatever-the-hell.

lmao!😀 I also looked up the guy after and saw that he's not like a psychiatrist or even a relevant doctor in the field and I was like.. why do some people feel the need to have an oppinion on everything? And why does it always have to be such a strong one 🙄 He's a perfect candidate for the diary of a CEO if he hasn't been on there yet lol
