I never realised how much I had to convince myself to start everything in my life until I started adhd medication and it took nearly nothing to begin. It was life changing seeing a glimmer of how "normal" people operate.

Id love to know whether you are still benefitting from the medication during this period. I might consider it for myself
@TylinaVespart
@TylinaVespart 2 года назад
@@michaelstilon6770 So by this point I’ve settled into the “right” dose for me (which was a decent increase from the start) and it mostly feels normal. I’m used to functioning like this now so the effect is more subtle, but here’s what I’ve found; - I can still get up and do things. May not want to, but I’m not sat there wishing I could and failing to start. - If I do very productive things for long enough I will need to rest and recover. Im not bone-crushingly exhausted and I can do necessary things, but I do need rest. I imagine it’s more like non adhd people rest now. - The most benefit to me has come in the form of increased understanding of what’s habit vs what was chemical. With meds, some things are a non issue, some are improved but still need working around, and some are just things I actually hate doing and need delegated. - I’m not fatigued all the time now. That alone is a big deal. - The space between thought and action where I can decide is priceless. - I’m more able to be patient I could go on. But yes, my answer is meds are still helping a lot, even though they’re now taking on a “part of the whole solution” rather than “OMG THIS FIXES EVERYTHING” and to be honest, I like it this way around.

@TylinaVespart

@@michaelstilon6770 Oh man, I remember final year of uni! It was a long while ago for me now (so obviously undiagnosed) in a relatively practical subject so I really struggled with trying to do too much in every unit. Scraped through, but I wish I’d had someone there to say to me that “doing your best” meant doing your best while taking care of yourself and sleeping at night. Take your time, see if your university can offer you any help… is there anything specific getting to you just now? Your mileage may vary, but for me I’d have benefitted from help during planning and smaller, shorter deadlines.

@@TylinaVespart I have been supported by my therapist mostly and she has helped me get through the most difficult moments over the past two years. I think that my planning abilities are at their near best right now. Its just when i get to working on my assignments, I still struggle immensely and it pushes me further down the rabbit hole. I get super fatigued from literally one lecture too, and the social anxiety of university life in general. Its a mixture of everything. I feel that if i could just finish more of my tasks in the week, I would have a better mood overall.

I have both severe ADHD and severe Depression among other things. What I hate is when I'm disappointed about something small, but it just gets worse and worse until I don't know why I'm so angry. Then I lash out at ppl and have been known to uncontrollably hit and physically harm myself (specifically on the head) on multiple occasions. But I feel like I can't tell anyone because then I'll just look like a 24 year old toddler throwing a temper tantrum.

"it's not procrastination [becuase] there's no intention involved." that is SUCH a fantastic quote. i had to pause the video for a second to think about that. it's way too often that i mean to do something (or i HAVE to do something) and then i just don't do it for some reason, and it's not til at least an hour or more later than i realize that i should've started this thing earlier but i didn't because this little thing came up or i thought of this other thing i could do and got distracted and forgot. sometimes it's intentional because i really just don't care / the consequences haven't set in, but usually it doesn't start off that way...

Thank you for putting my everyday struggle into words! As a 19 year old who just finished her freshman year of college it was so incredibly hard for me to pass. I felt like there was a constant battle in my head, my parental voice scolding me for not doing assignments while the child voice felt like starting wasn’t even an option. And then on top of my internal struggle having people around me tell me that because it’s easy for them to start and finish projects it should be easy for me. It’s very frustrating especially at the stage of life I’m in and I don’t want to let ADHD run my life for the rest of my life

It seems like a miracle I even went through my senior high school years, what more in college, now that I have to organize everyhting myself and motivate myself to do things even more :< I hpe I get through this school year

Having adhd since birth but diagnosed after I brought my 1st born to child specialist/neurologist, I was 41yrs old. It’s very important to know n understand that the brain is an organ like liver heart etc but way more complex. So as the heart may have multiple issues that need to be addressed so the brain. We are not broken people that need to be fixed or cured. ADHD properly diagnosed especially the other areas of the physical brain need to be “tuned up” just like a car engine. Depression n anxiety are other aspects of adhd from neurological point n psychological issues also are included. I’ve been in meds since I got diagnosed n now I’m 49. I’m not “fixed” but much better “tuned up” n am also enjoying the many blessings of adhd n depression because they don’t overwhelm me anymore. Godspeed😁

Also I have low empathy. Right now I’m trying to figure out what to cook for dinner and it’s quite exhausting, and then I have to go grocery store to get the ingredients. It’s really debilitating. Just yeaaah.. This executional dysfunction, or whatever it's called, is the reason why i seaked professional diagnosis i'm waiting for now. I'm at university studying comp-sci and the workload is very high. It's basically impossible for me to achieve my goals. I was wondering like "am i just so dumb?", so i took an IQ test and briefly results came back saying "nope, that's not the problem". Also I should mention I'm diagnosed with clinical depression and take meds, but only thing they do for me is resolving the really core problems of depression (mood, suicidal ideation etc..). But my motivation is still none and my work ethics is terrible even though i try rlly hard. So i hope maybe adhd medication could help.

They should have tried ADHD meds first...assuming they knew you had it. ADHD has many co-morbidities I think they are called...those being, depression, anxiety ect. ADHD is usually the CAUSE...so fixing or helping ur ADHD should cure or reduce the others. Side note NOT everyone with ADHD aka ADD gets the same benefits from the mediations...some get 0 benefit. While rare its still a possibility also there are many meds and side effects ect... its going to be medicine roulette until you figure out what works at what doses and what does not. Hopefully something does and you get 0 side effects or only tolerable ones.

What I'm looking for everywhere is an answer to this dilemma- I've struggled with getting things started for so many years amongst other executive dysfunctions (concentration, disorganization, and forgetfulness) but I also have a history of depression and ptsd. Can I just have these "getting started issues" without ADHD and just because of depression or do I also have ADHD??
@deepblue153
@deepblue153 2 года назад
I'm not very familiar with PTSD, but I do know that those can be caused by depression. However, if those issues *were* caused by ADHD, it could possibly be making the depression worse. It's good to have it ruled out just in case, especially if those issues are having a negative impact on your life. Disclaimer: I'm NOT a doctor or anything. Nearly all my life, I knew I had depression and I assumed that it was causing my anxiety and lack of focus. However, antidepressants didn't help me much in those areas. I was recently diagnosed with "severe ADHD, recurrent moderate major depressive disorder, and social anxiety disorder." I have started taking ADHD medication (Vyvanse) and my ability to concentrate has drastically improved. Because I can get things done, some of my situational anxiety is reduced, which (to an extent) has also helped my depression. I still suffer from both anxiety and depression, but I feel that it's less volatile when my ADHD is treated.
