Wow, so recent! It was a while ago now, but sage said he almost olympic qualified with cliftons. It's motivating me to stick with non-plated shoes for now.
Love this shoe. It's narrow but because the upper is so accommodating it works with my wide foot pretty well. Perfect laces on these. Also doing intervals is *chefs kiss*
I once ran a half in the Takumi Sen 3...now I'll only use them up to a 10K. Fast and responsive, and surprisingly durable for a racing flat. I'm looking forward to trying out the 7s!
Looks like a great shoe, ideal for reps or those forgotten things....races. The only thing I would say is the adizero pro is similar in feel and last seasons colours are now only 120 quid.
Great review spot on - just like the Sen series. They are the best middle distance track session shoes, light enough yet good cushioning and response with great grip to allow you to push hard all the way round not just in a straight line. Imagine they would work well on a shorter more technical road run as well.
There should be a showdown the racing Flats... The Nike streak, Takumi and Run Fast Pro... If possible Ed, the ASICS Tartaredge, NB1400 are other good Flats too
I ran my 5:38 mile PR in a pair of Takumi Sen 5s, the afternoon after I ran the Cleveland Marathon (in the same shoes). I cannot speak highly enough about this shoe and totally agree with your thoughts about it. I just wish it was a little more versatile to help better justify the asking price.
Adidas makes sick shoes and the details and quality in their shoes is outstanding. Thanks for this review. I never saw this on their site here in Canada
Ow EddBud, after your very nice review I am tempted to wait for your suggestion of a lightstrike pro Takumi Sen 8 version ;0, but temptation to try this one is also sizzling in the brain!
@@EDDBUD Bought two pairs with a good reduction, and no regrets. What a nice shoe did 30 x 100m today with it and I have the feel like I could easily race a 1500 or 800 in just like with spikes, I am not sure its allowe because its listed as 25.5 mm and the IAAF list for shoes is 25mm and under, but its better than the takumi 5, although a few grams heavier. It is a crazy good shoe even more so at higher pace. thx edd for the review!
I wore Takumi Sen 6 to complete a marathon last year. I was excited about this shoe, and it worth every penny start from you open the box and holding it in your hands. The design, the quality, the lightweight, everything in the shoe tells you it’s a monster. But unluckily, I’m not strong enough to hold the shoe, I can’t feel my forefoot after 13miles. So, I only got a second personal best record time. This shoe doesn’t fit most people, it is made for professionals, and better used in the shorter distance. Still, I love this shoe, it’s a super Gran Turismo car. Maybe you are not good at driving it, but it great to have it and try it occasionally. BTW, I bought it with more than 70% off at the Chinese double 11 shopping festival. Totally worth it.
The Takumi sen 8 was seen today during the adidas event and was worn by the new wr holder for 5k. Full length lightstrike pro and carbon rods i believe. Looks promising!
Been very curious about the Takumi Sen, great video and review! Also glad to see adi continue this shoe. I have a carbon plated racer but I’m unconvinced I really like them. I can’t run easy in them, anything above 8:00/mile and they’re too stiff. I don’t engage the plate and I get weird niggles. I also don’t get that “damn this is fun” that I get from a traditional flat. But darned if I don’t feel fresher in the few days following a workout in the things.
Look cool. But think I’d choose the saucony fastwitch over this if wanted a 5k and under shoe, although the run fast 2 serve well enough as well as being good for longer stuff as well - informative review as always!
Adidas Adizero Talmud Sen 7 was available for £65 using a 20% discount code direct from Adidas during their Black Friday sale. That’s less than half price! 😱👀
I wanted this shoe so much so was disappointed it wasn’t really available in its last iteration here in the US. I jumped onto the adidas website the minute I heard v7 was available, so I’ve had it for a little while now, and I’m not disappointed. It’s exactly what I was looking for as a future 5K racer.
This was a quick return back to adidas. Adidas does make it easy tho. I still like Adidas shoes. This shoe proves to me that weight isn’t everything. Sometimes low weight can be a negative.
When I was young and fast I would have been salivating over this shoe but at my advanced age I think it best left to the speedy among us. I had the Sen years ago and I loved it. Looks to not have changed much...A bit steep at $160!
Thanks for the great review, I'm now placing an order with Adidas for this shoe for my son, I hope the heel padding is better than the Adizero Pro which was bare bones, the Adizero Pro cut his heel to bits so we had to use Skin on Skin Gels whilst using them.
@@EDDBUD he always wears socks, he had the Sen 6 without problems but he said the Adizero had more cushioning in the base but the heel was very thin. He's 14 and only been running for a year and just hit today 4:45 mile in training so going good👍 he also has narrow feet so Adidas is a really good fit. Thanks for your reply👌
@@EDDBUD any truth Mr Onori is bringing out an Eddbud signature 8 addition, with etched images of bass guitars and 22/25 lightstrike pro sub200, nub-free
Ed, I feel the same way about all the cushion. I started out with the cushion shoes but have switched over to more responsive shoes. The SL 20 started the change of mind. I’ve also noticed more hamstring pain when wearing my cushion shoes. Sure it’s a personal thing.
Hey Brad, i have really found my strength has increased the less i have used plated shoes, the more i have trained in heavier shoes and now on the intervals and tempo sessions i am showing faster times with less effort. In shoes like the Run Fast 3 and this one i can fly along much easier. I think cushion is great when its needed on longer efforts, but for 10k to the half marathon the lower stacks can actually help you. :)
"Oh-ooh, yeah!" - RMMS I'm 6ft/182.8cm, 157lbs/71kgs = Count me in! I feel obliged to cop every available model year offered at adidas online US. The TS6 is the first I saw there, and I immediately scooped it up. Your confirmation of upper and midsole enhancements is more reason to grab it (as if I needed any more reason than Omori-san's Artisan Select 2021). I credit Rhonex Kipruto's 10k Road WR in the TS5 with shining a brighter light on this amazing flat. I also credit soebrother EDDBUD Esq for being one of a small few shoetubers to cover the TS6 and TS7. This may be an option against trend, but they can't all be followers. Some have little choice but to lead. And that colorway... 🔥👟🔥👟🔥👟🔥 ✌🏽🖤🏃🏽♂️
I knew you would be up for this one Amado. its a lovely improved upper, same quality midsole and outsole. If you loved the sen 6 you will like this new iteration. :)
My solesiblings know me well. “Hi-viz tiger at a neon rave”? Yes, please! Having it. Tiny tiger steps towards perfection. It’s the TS Way. 🐯🐯🐯 ✌🏽🖤🏃🏽♂️
Thanks for the video Ed! I really want the Takumi Sen 7. Q: Do you think the outsole will grip well on wet grass? It certainly looks like it, but that's the surface I'd most likely use it for. Be well and great workout mate. 91 comments in 5 hours 😁 -- if you don't get to my question no worries I'll get them if I can find them.
I haven’t had the opportunity for much outdoor running since I picked these up (I live in the mountains in Colorado and there’s too much snow and ice for the last month or so), but I do think the traction in these is stellar. Between the spiky things and patches of Continental rubber they should be good on any surface. Martha
Those protrusions on the outsole are smashing aren’t they Martha? I don’t see why they wouldn’t work on grass to a degree. Great even on light trails, surprisingly robust too. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Thanks Edd for great vid😊 in retrospect, it appears that Sen7 may be more appealing than 8 for new comers to Sen series. Did you go up for half size in view of width of the shoes ? In any event, Merry x mas to you and your family 😊
Great review Ed. Do you have any idea whether the track in Yeovil is open/fence is climb-able?🤣 looking for somewhere to TT and Yeovil is the nearest real track.
Beautiful! I am big fan of the takumi sen 6 because of the 5mm drop. Why on earth the TS7 has now 9mm? I dont get it... anyway, I ordered them and hope to not feel the 9mm that much. What do you think? Is it a big diffrence from 5mm to 9mm?
@@EDDBUD Yeah, I don't trust the drops on a lot of shoes. My boston 9 feels super flat to me which I love for walking and trails, but my boston 8 feels like a more aggressive drop. Doesn't feel near as good to walk in.
I think the difference between the Boston 8 and 9 in perceived drop is attributable to the difference between all Boost vs the Boost-Lightstrike hybrid, in density and performance. And I picked up the Takumi Sen7 a month or so ago (posted my own early mini-review on the EDDBUD Strava club!) and agree with everything here in Ed’s appraisal. Re: drop, there’s no way it feels like a nearly 10 mm drop. Moreover, it’s kind of moot point since this shoe keeps you landing in the mid-to fore-foot if you use it for what it was designed for. It really feels like a weightless slipper. I can’t wait to try it in 5K races. Aside from that prospect and track speed workouts, I’m already enjoying this shoe on speed and hill intervals on the treadmill, since it’s not safe to run outside now due to ice and snow. Martha
@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Boston 8 feels a lot diff to me than the 9 jogging, but I can feel the drop the most actually not jogging. I love lower drops walking; hate higher drops walking. I can even feel it driving where I also like lower drop shoes. Never felt like wearing the 8 for driving, but the 9 is becoming one of my go to's for walking and driving.
@@EDDBUD actually I was referring too your reviewing style and knowledge. It really shows how much of a running shoe afficionado you are. I just like seeing ppl being really good at what they are doing 👍
Good review for an underated shoe. What about the grip ? I use to do my speedwork on gravel trail. Does that shoe handle well trail run (as long as it's not too rocky or muddy) ?
Maybe muddy trails are too much, good on gravel though, BUT the midsole is quite thin for this purpose. It could be good for 1 or 2 efforts but it might get punctured easily.
I'm puzzled by the outsole design. What's the purpose of those toothy protrusions? Grip on track? Better for cross country? Seems like unnecessary depth and material for mostly smooth dry pavement. If shoe tech is comparable to bicycle tire tech, patterned tread serves little or no purpose on smooth, dry pavement. Might be interesting to see a variation with less... stuff... on the outsole. This shoe is so light it might be an interesting alternative to the Atreyu standard, and SL20. The arrangement of the Lightstrike and Boost seems odd as well. Seems like a forefoot striker would prefer Lightstrike under the forefoot midsole, while a heel striker (like me) would prefer Boost near the heel -- more like the design of the Boston 9 and Adizero Pro. Good review, though. Kinda tempting. I do like my older version of the Adizero Prime, a minimalist shoe with Prime Knit upper and thin all-Boost midsole.
Hey Edd, if you like the takumi line, you should try the adidas rc2. They are super cheap, super Light and really good. And they Look fire. Everybody likes a small price right?
This is a great shoe, you know I like low stack height shoes. Glad you review it, I would like to do the same in my channel as well. About the price I have a bit of concern, it sounds a bit too high to me.
Hey @Eddbud, would the Sen 7 be a good suitable alternative to the Boston 9? I love the 9, but can’t find any stock of it and aren’t keen on the extra cushioning of the 10.
What you think that could be better for fast short interval training on track (50m-400m): - Adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 7 - New Balance Hanzo SGF - Asics Tartheredge Thanks!
I've been running exclusively in Boston 9s for the last 3 months, picked up a pair of these for speedwork and after just 1 session my legs feel beat up. I'm a heavier runner (90kg) so I think they may just be a step too far. At that price it's just too much for a shoe that will fulfill such a narrow niche, will stick to the NB Rebels I think
Edd, I’m newer to the addidas lineup but have religiously buying up the sl20v1’s whenever I see them on sale. Can u do a video outlining their lineup? I just don’t understand what’s intended for what... this on vs rc20, sl20, adizero, Boston etc maybe a sjd inspired matrix type video but by someone super knowledable of the brand
Yo edd hope you are good over there! 🏃♂️ snow everywhere over here in essex! Question: would you say this is a tighter fit then the boston 8?? that's my limit on tightness for a shoe. Regards
Sup guys. My Sen7 just arrived. Are they supposed to be super snug fitting(like 1/2 finger gap from touching the front wall)? I went half size up from my Boston9, but they seems the same sizing as my Boston =__= Or they will stretch a bit after few runs?
Hi Ed, how does the forefoot width compare to the Boston 9? Boston 9 fits me well but as you said this is narrow I’m worried it will be a bit tight on me.
The Boston is wider than this shoe. That’s more a “trainer” type shoe to me where this fits like a racer. Not the most narrow shoe ever but certainly more fitting than the Boston. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
adidas adizero max running shoe size UK 12.5. Nike, Saucony UK 14. Answers on a postcard please. You do like your minimal racers. I used Adios as my racer for many years (which is a slightly more built up version of this) but I think at 54 now those days are gone for me unless off road and that's even if the 12.5 is long enough for me which is a doubtful as is at least 0.5 size less than ideal.
@@EDDBUD adidas can make UB in much bigger sizes plus track spikes and some trail shoes. Road running shoes like these (surely the core market) and no. With my narrow feet, adidas are otherwise good for me but need more toe box room!!! Think am going to give up on adidas as all the 12.5 I get I always feel I am compromising.
Hey EDDBUD, I would like your opinion on deciding which is better the Adizero Takumi Sen 7 or the Adizero Pro? I only run on roads. Thanks in advance! :D
How does this compare to the Adizero pro? I've used that up to (virtual) half marathon and not once did I think about the shoe. More I run in that shoe the more I like it, picked up a 2nd pair for £99. I do agree if we always run in comforting shoes the legs & feet don't get used to feeling the ground , helps with running form I suspect.
Hey Steve, the Adizero Pro is like a more cushioned version of this shoe with a similar fitting upper. I think that Omori was also involved in the design of that shoe too. I think too much cushion can lead us to rely on it from time to time. I always remember seeing Michael Jordan who decided to go back to his Jordan 1's after lots of air and cushion and he found it hard, yet he once produced some of the best performances in those shoes. Form was all i thought about in these yesterday and i produced some crazy 400m times despite being at my desk all the day! :)
@@EDDBUD Good information, I'll keep a look out for some. These latest Adidas uppers are certainly great at the lockdown lock down . More cushion means less proprioception information. Good set of intervals you cracked out,...well done. 400m mmm i've a got pair of shocking pink Adidas spikes ready to lap those up (spikes real bargain at the moment on the bay of E)
Hi Edd. Kind of interested w/ Sen7 and have an expiring 20% coupon in 3weeks. I dont have an ultra light for easy/tempo/short distance race shoe. Do you think Sen7 fits nice into my rotation, or Adizero Pro a better option? My lineup: RC Elite Rebel (almost 400km) Boston9 Novablast Floatride Energy 1.0
intriguing, I don't like adidas though there's just a stigma for me plus they're heavy, you can get the rincon one or the beacon 2 for the same weight with more cushion
Hey Kai. Not sure what you mean by stigma? The sl20, Boston 9, Adizero pro, Takumi sen 7, Adizero Adios pro are all lighter than a zoom fly 3 in my size. Great shoes with awesome quality.
@@EDDBUD yeah I also tend to stay away from nike as well I prefer a more low drop shoe I should have clarified what I meant by that sorry about the misunderstanding, big brands like that that make shoes for a much larger audiences just kind of turn me away from them with that as they generally make shoes that don't fit my running style
How do they directly compare to the adizero pro’s? I bought those recently, was it a good purchase? Which do you prefer? I’m commenting this mid video so sorry if you answered this later 😂
@@EDDBUD then I’m very happy I bought them! This is probably because of the boost in the heel instead of the toe right? Great review btw, the spirit in your video’s is always amazing!
I think the Takumi Sen could be my parkrun shoe! Adidas should make a low drop series to their collection. Why do all the their shoes have a high drop?
@@EDDBUD My strategy is usually to buy shoes when they go on sale. But I think I will put them on my "shopping list" and when I somehow spot a nice price I might pick them up.
Hi EDDBUD I am looking forward to buy takumi sen 7 however I'm puzzled with the right shoe size I have saucony ride 14 size UK - 11 and according to the adidas online shoe guidance takumi sen size for me should be - 12.5 (which is out of stock) best way would be to try them on in a shop however I couldn't find them in Leeds/Sheffield. Did you try them on and can you relate with size to the other brands ?
Let's be having you! Come on!😂. Love this shoe but just brought some Speeds and Mrs L would have a heat attack if I got those lemon tigers! On a completely different subject what happened to the Waverider NEO you tested?
@@EDDBUD Thanks for all the videos, thoroughly engaging. As the old expressions goes, it would have been rude not to... given I got nearly 50% of these shoes (40% drop and a further discount for loyalty custom|) means I landed these for £76!! It was my birthday went the justification...
I bought a pair for 5km races. I got mine in half a size too small so I will run minus socks and save another 40g's. If I can run the marathon without socks I can surely run 5000m. Who needs socks anyway.
