The MadStad patented mounting system allows Spyder riders to adjust the height and angle of their Spyder F3 / F3S windshield resulting in a much smoother airflow, better wind protection and a more comfortable ride than any fixed windshield can provide. The base plate assembly attaches to the Spyder's metal framework, just ahead of the instrument cluster. The adjustable brackets attach to that base, then the shield attaches to those brackets. With the shield separated from the bike you can adjust it to your optimal height, angle and airflow. The system allows you to set the adjustable shield to your desired position while simultaneously allowing airflow under the shield to prevent buffeting for comfortable wind protection.

At 6ft the chart recommends 18inch But would 20 inch be a reach or too big ? I prefer to have it cover more wind buffering and when not in use just put it to its lowest and on an angle. So my question is at that height will it be too much at 20inches ? I’d hate to have to send it back

Hello Ran, remember you have a few inches of vertical adjustment with each shield. So you could also get the 18" and ride with it up 2" inches to get the height of the 20". That would also allow air flow under the shield on hot days.

With the adjustment point being in the middle of the windshield how does it affect the field of vision?

Hello Vejon, great question! These shields are designed to look over.. rather than through. The best way to measure what shield height is right for you is to have the top of the Shield at chin level when its in the lowest adjustable position. We took measurements from the handlebars to the top of the shield for the 18"-24" shields and posted those pictures here www.slingmods.com/can-am-spyder-f3-f3s-adjustable-clear-tinted-windshields-madstad-engineering for reference. This will allow you to measure from home to find the shield that works best for your height. If you order based on this measurement style the adjustment bracket will not affect your visibility as your line of sight will be far above the adjustment bracket. I think it would distract you very much. It’s a nice design but the center brackets work get in the way of your view. That’s just me.

Hello Kevin, it's adjustable on both pitch and height so the level of noticeable vibration would be different with its set position and the amount of head or cross wind while riding. I personally have never really noticed fluttering on the shield itself while riding.. not more then one would expect at least. This is by far our most popular selling F3/F3S shield. Looking thru the "goalpost" brackets would drive me nuts. I'll take the F4 custom over this any day. Thank you for mentioning how tall you are, very helpful!

Hello, the 18" is recommended for your height. Please also note that you will be able to adjust the shield vertically a few inches and adjust pitch to fine tune it for you.

I am 6 foot 3, but I share my bike with my wife who is 5 foot 6. Which would be the best windshield for us to share?

Hello Bob, the 20" is recommended for those over 6' 2" and the 16" is the smallest shield which would work for your wife. The taller 20" would protect both you and her based on your height differences. You could also run the 18" as the shield does have a few inches of vertical adjustment. So your wife could ride with the 18" in the lowest position, whereas you could lift the 18" shield up to a 20" shield height when you ride.

So I made a comment months back inquiring about the effectiveness of this windshield and seeking the correct size for my height because I was trying to avoid constant turbulence on my helmet. Well, after receiving the recommended windshield size, and going for a ride I realized that the Not only am I get a lot of turbulence in my helmet area, but the turbulence is being generated from the space below the windshield which means the correct height is irrelevant because like I said. The turbulence is being generated from below. Guess I'm stuck with a uncomfortable form of protection 🤦🏾‍♂️

Hello D Rex, the height recommendations we provide to customers when asked are given to us by the MFG. Windshield height is totally subjective. I like the windshield, but you guys need to put much better instructions together than this. Screws not labeled and manual needs a lot of work. Video makes it look too easy compared to the buyer. Otherwise, cool windshield though.

I bought the tallest windshield,I'm 6'3", I'm very disappointed in this windshield , after following the poor installation instructions. After ny first test drive on my new Can Am F3S, the windshield moves around a lot and is not stable at all. I was constantly thinking this unstable windshield could come off at any time.After 300 miles, the problems still persists. I would not recommend this windshield.
