Thanks for the tutorial, just bought a 1025r and don’t have the manual, thought the idle was high, watching your video determined it was.

Kelly, glad it helped you out! Yep, JD recommends 1500 rpms, which feels/sounds a little high to me and many other personally, but they recommend that to minimize vibration and to keep the hydro pump performing at a certain level. Many people adjust it lower too.

Great video! There are plenty of times when i get off the tractor to disconnect an attachment, hook up a chain or some other duty. I like the idea of a lower idle speed. I can throttle up to get my work done. Thanks for a video well done!

Thanks Keith! It’s a simple procedure. What you describe is when I like a lower idle too. They do sound pretty wound up from the factory.

Ive often wonder about this idleing at 1500rpms of my 1025R. . . . thinking, "Its high for beiing at idle. I wonder if there is a way incould turn it down a bit to save on fuel as such a high idle point???" I never gave much thought about the lower RPMs effecting the hydraulic pump at all. Would it actually be effected at all. now that you have shown the the lower RPM idle. . . . . what about making an adjustment at the higher engine running status??? Accordijg to the rpm gauge on the dash, they will go no higher than 3,000rpms! can one set this to a bit higher rpms to increase the stronger power at the hydraulic system without causing the engine to exceed "overspeed" limitations???

No the engine itself isn’t rated for over 3350rpms you need the same engine in the x758 and 1023e which is a .9 liter vs a 1.2 in the R Basically leave the redline alone hahaha

Should this be done when warmed up as the fuel density, etc will vary warm to cold? Maybe not enough change to matter.

gregrob20 Great question. This is simply a mechanical adjustment to the throttle linkage, so no mixtures are being changed. It shouldn’t matter if it’s hot or cold, but not a bad idea to do it on a warm engine. Thanks for asking. Good question.

Ive oftern wondered about this idle setting or not. seems like to me, the 1500rpm idle setting is to high & should be set around 1200rpms, but innevrr gave much thought as to if this would effect the hydaulic pump or not. i was looking to safe the fuel advantage at the lower rpm settings. Could this adjustment be done for the higher engine throttle settings to increase more power to the engine itself, thus creating more power to the hydraulic system??? i would love to have an engine increase in 5-7 horspower & have a stronger lifting power at the hydraulics as well. Any ideas on what to do??? Thankya for sharring this video. its going to my library to be saved. Godbless

Rodney, I would not increase the engine RPM as engine horsepower (in the case of the 1025R) is not directly related to your hydraulic pressure. There are other methods that you can boost the hydraulic pressure; one of which is installing shims that alter the point at which the relief valves open. The John Deere 1025R Technical Manual specifies the safe operating ranges for hydraulic pressure and you'll be able to tell what the maximum recommended PSI is. I would not exceed those limits, as I've seen other people end out destroying their hydraulic pump, which is obviously a very costly repair! I may make a video on this in the future. Thanks for watching!!
