You took a measurement "B" with the bike off of the centerstand. What did that do for you? Normally that's used to determine if you need a different spring rate but you didn't mention it. There should be a certain amount of static sag and then there's the race sag. If you can't achieve correct numbers for both, then your spring rate if not correct. If you were able to set race sag for a 450lb guy, would the bike still settle down under just its own weight? No! That's the static sag. Both (sags) need to be checked.
@@roadwarrior8560check with my good friend Paul Thede at RaceTech in Corona California. He's a mechanical engineer and can explain it much better than I can. I'm only a Civil Engineer but Han been racing and riding since I was 6 years old. I'm 62 now. Damn that went by quickly! Good luck with your suspension setup.
MARKINAU8 when you want to make the spring softer you need to lower the bike and when you add more preload the spring becomes harder. But actually it doesnt have anything to do with the spring. It just changes the distance between the top and botom of the spring making the sagway longer or shorter so you have more impactzone. So: more length (add preload) more sagway. (Means you can go 2up or ride with loads of gear) Less length (lose preload) less sagway. (Means you have a shorter sagway and more direct feeling for roadriding etc.)
I don't have a centre stand. Does that make it impossible for me to make measurement A? I have a paddock stand but those attach at the swingarm, so the rear shock is still under the bike's weight.
SoroushA94 no this should not make a difference. The A measurement is just the 'zero line'. You could also do this using the side stand (less accurate) or use someone to keep you ballanced and upright
Probably could use automotive jack stands to put most bikes up on ...can typically use the footpeg brackets or frame or whatever is solid and same height on either side...i have a center stand (bought bike with it installed already) so I have not needed to put on jackstands ...so far
I sprayed it with Plasti dip! You can still remove this and hsve the original paint underneath in perfect condition :) it was on there for 3 years before it started comming of at some points. It cost me about 250 euro's to paint it on
I think this is a typical youtube expert video. "How to fill up with gas? Pull up to a gas station. Follow the manual. Don't forget receipt!" Thanks i guess, but it should be titled "how to measure" not how to adjust
For someone who didn't understand the basics of preload that would be handy. Even if your front doesn't need it, you should do one. Or this video description should read "rear" suspension. Oh and leave the coconut oil in too. Jussayin
Moto Mc yes it is! its a super fit. i've got L for normal fittings and this is also an L. I wrote a review about the shortsleve on the website ;) www.beardedvstromrider.com
Bearded_vstromrider good review I just read it.. I'm going to order one now. couldn't decide between large or XL I'm 190cm and 100kg so I think I'll go with the large, what would you suggest as I'm between L and LX in most t-shirts. thanks for the reply!
