I couldn't find anything that was as helpful as this video. Most of the "guides" I looked at just said "set EDC (or whatever) from x to y depending on your cpu" without explaining what the heck that was for. Thanks for this.

What an incredible wealth of information these videos have been, thank you! I am curious though about your process for dialing in single-core performance, because at least on my 5900X the CineBench work load bounces back and forth between two of my cores, the two Windows-preferred cores. So it's basically impossible to get a good reading of my average clock speed.

Best video yet for explaining PPT etc using Ryzen Master. Got a nice tune with my 5900x and Asus x570-f gaming. 4.5Ghz on all core on CB R20 getting 8778 compared to 8250. Nice boost. I'm also using curve optimisation for individual cores. I settled with 185 / 125 /150 with max temp at 85°C.

Followed this to the tee. Found near zero advantage to the MHz during the CR23 runs. And the score was going down! But your tuning got the max V below 1.40 and the temps down, so I was already impressed. Then I ran PCMark and saw boost speeds AND durations that were brand new. Score improved by over 5%. Thanks! this video doesn't fully explain how to change the test parameters, for instance at 6:36 i'm already at the max ppc/tdc/edc values, so i can't raise it, is that caused by a setting in the bios? is pbo supposed to be enabled in the bios for this test? etc.
@TheGrayingTech
@TheGrayingTech 3 года назад
PBO does need to be enabled in the BIOS. If you are already at max, record those numbers and then apply the default values and record those results. You incrementally increase PPT, TDC, EDC while running CB Multi Core to see what happens when you change the values. I have an updated video here which hopefully is more clear and to the point. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F205IDSXoMk.html

I know Iam kinda late but letting the CPU have almost 90° while gaming is not pleasant at all. With no AC and these settings you would kill the cpu during the summer. I got a 5900x recently really cheap and Iam still looking for the best settings. Iam using the stock PBO settings (higher ones are not giving really much performance, just heat) adjusted curve optimizer (Iam still at it, core cycler takes forever to test each core), boost clock override +200 and Iam hitting aroumd 22k multicore and 1,7k single core. Max temp in cinebench 65° and 74/75° while stress testing with core cycler. Cooler: Liquid Freezer II 360. Is this it? Or am I missing something.

I tried to play around with PBO using Your guide but there is a problem: I have 3700x so my default values are PPT-88W, TDC-60A, EDC-90A, when I go into PBO it shows these max values: PPT:1000, TDC-114, EDC-168. TDC and EDC are fine and change accordingly but PPT doesn't go above 88W, no matter what value is set in PBO. Going lower than 88W works fine.

Thanks for the useful video, people like you make the PC community what it is. My 5950x is not getting anywhere near your results despite using an EK 360mm AIO (and an MSI X570 Meg Unify), even with my case completely open (all panels removed for maximum airflow). I've repasted, i've checked mounting tightness, and i just can't get my CPU to get close to your first set of results in this video (ignoring part 4). I hover around 4335MHz. The other odd thing is that when i went into my BIOS and set the PPT/TDC/EDC limits, when i booted back into Ryzen Master, my limits were now dramatically lower than they were prior to the reboot (i.e., whereas PPT was showing 100% in RM, now it's only showing 75%). Either way, at 86˚C, my maximum observed boost seems to be 4335MHz and it seems like i lost the silicon lottery :(

That sucks!!!! Sorry!!! You have the right components, so that’s not it. Maybe try using the PBO settings I found for my Asus board: 200 PPT / 145 EDC / 145 TDC Curve Optimizer: -20 to -25 I think MSIs default values run higher than needed. So lowering them might help to see if you can get the boost right. you did remove the sticker right?

@Bacender 3 года назад
@TheGrayingTech Thank you for the reply man! I've just subbed. Re your whisper, you got me paranoid so i disassembled my waterblock and re-pasted and ensured that there are no obstructions or plastic covers lol. I've just punched in your results and i'm at 78C under sustained Cinebench R23 load with a max all core boost of 4255~. I just rebooted, set curve to -15 (at -25 i become unstable while at idle despite doing a 30 minute R23 run), and my results were this: (213PPT/TDC155/EDC145). i.imgur.com/opWOWVE.png As you can see my EDC is at 106%, however when i increase my EDC to deal with the fact that it's "over", my all core boost goes DOWN and my temperatures increase.

Hi man, great stuff on your channel, i must for someone like me that is facing for the first time the AMD CPU. Let me ask you something: 1) I've set my CO for ALL CORES a negative value of 30, but in Cinebench R23 both in multicore and in single core test Cinebench returns one error: which is the best way to approach the issue? For example, (let's talk about single core bench) looking in Ryzen Master which is the most used core during the test and try to lower the CO value just for that core from 30 to 25 or maybe 20? Or should i increase the power to the CPU (TDC - EDC)? 2) Differently from your CPU, my 5800X in single core bench splits the workload between 2 or more cores. In your video the full load is just on a single core, in my case i rarely reach the top core speed and the load splits between 2 (or 3 cores). Why?

Okay, so I understand that there are GREAT chips and then those that are "just passable", and everything in between, but I am getting numbers so far off the "baseline" here that I am wondering if I truly got a lemon of a 5950x? My default freq is 3.77 and that goes down to 3.74 with the maxed out numbers (mine are 720, 420, and 480). Using the same "semi-optimized" numbers as a point of reference (210, 150, 150) I am only getting 66-70% utilization of the 210 PPT, and about 70% of the TDC, but 100% of the EDC...and again my freq is hovering right around 3.81. I can get the clock just over 4ghz for a short duration using the sampled numbers...but nothing sustained. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I set PPT, TDC & EDC to their max but for some reason EDC is showing 0A and 0% even though I set it to 190. Would that be some kind of bug? Also with all this tweaking of settings, I've not seen any real changes in MHz single/multi-core or in the temps. I had been manually setting Curve Optimizer settings and testing. Not sure if that should be disabled for these tests you're going over. My CO settings are C0 -27, C1 -19, C2 -30, C3 -28, C4 -21, C5 -30, C6 -20, C7 -16. Got any tips on why RyzenMaster is acting weird for me or why I'm not seeing any differences in MHz or Temps +/-?

90c is when I hit the limit of what the system will allow. I wouldn't run that high for a long period of time but degradation normally occurs due to high current & voltage not heat. Heat might cause your paste to fail faster but shouldn't damage the silicon.

@@TheGrayingTech Thanks for actually answering. I guess I am asking because I'd like to get max performance out especially since I do some 3d design and Rendering. So would running at 90C for a 15-20 min render be bad? Also would it be ok to just use Ryzen Master and set it to Precision Boost Overdrive mode? without changing other PTT TDC EDC?
@zlobaplays
@zlobaplays 3 года назад
@@bchen1226 If you run you Ryzen at 90C, i would bet it's already thermal-throttling. Try to start HWinfo64 and look for Thermal Throttling status. And even if it's not thermal throttling, you won't get the best performance of Ryzen at 90C because of how the Boosting algorithm works - more temps = less boost = less performance. And i would recommend tuning PBO in BIOS instead of RM. And yes, you can enable PBO with PPT, EDC and TDC limits set to either Auto or Motherboard.

Something is definitely off. What is it running with the default settings? Check to see if any one particular core is running hotter than another. If yes, it could be a gap in the paste.
