As a white kid from Wisconsin, I remember seeing my first low rider and falling in love. I later learned how rooted it is to Chicano culture, and how prideful they are of that. I got to go to my first low rider meet last year out in Denver, and I felt like a kid in a candy shop. You'll never meet a friendlier group of people, and that's coming from someone who apologizes for apologizing. Good people who know how to have good fun.
There is some money involved, but there is a lot of blood, sweat and tears--- sweat equity. Building a lowrider usually brings friends and family who do different parts of the car--chassis, body work, paint, electrics, sounds/hydraulics -- they work until it's done. Just like a vision board -- starts off with a theme (or themes) where the owner or family or friends, the artwork, paint, lights and interior are formed to express a very passionate idea or memories of different events and/or racial pride. Completed, it's like a rolling statement on wheels, all there and in your face--take it or leave. It'll about love and passion within a lifestyle. Inseparable.
this made me emotional and its hard to pin down why. My wife and family is Mexican and has always been the most accepting and family oriented people I've ever met. They took me in and made me apart of their family from day one no questions asked even when my family had cast me out. If you are open to other peoples culture and willing to step out of your comfort zone its amazing what you will find.
Chilling with a Chicano family is the most American you could ever be especially knowing that these people are indigenous and this is their continent great great job it doesn't get any more American than this my native American brother sisters
I agree with you in every way brotha, people forget that we're N8tves also, much love to all my other Indigenous brothers and sisters, Aztec, Mayan,Tarascan, and Hopi blood flow through my veins!
@@Bamm_Bamm420 it's the truth people want to label white people as if they are Mexicans when they're not it's quite frankly aggravating when I hear people make it seem that America belongs to the Europeans when we know land that stolen doesn't mean it belongs to someone
@@Bamm_Bamm420 fr, it doesnt which country is put on our passports, most of us are natives and we enjoy the sub cultures we each are in in the American continent 🤙🏽
Thanks for including our culture in your series. Chicanos are true Americans that have been around for a long time and we're not going anywhere! Much love
F A C T So-Cal White boy here who married a Mexican girl 27 years ago. I've always dug the culture, but more importantly how they embrace family. I have a '55 Chevy, mid 60's-early 70's blvd cruiser style. Not a hot rod, not a pro touring, not a resto-mod (see pic to the left)...it ain't your grandpa's '55.
I saw you guys there! I spoke with your girlfriend she’s so nice! I was waiting for this video to be uploaded lol 😭 even in person it’s obvious the both of you guys are very nice people! 💕💕 it made me so happy to see RU-vidrs I adore in real life✨
@@sleepy310714 @user-ur8dq9vn9e It's cool to be from more than one place. That's how cultures share with each other so we can all learn and grow together. Sorry if it confuses you, but I'm from LA, grew up in Seattle, half Spaniard, half Northern Germanic, some Native, and currently live in the Midwest. I've got Norse ink on one arm, and my Abuela as a flamenco on the other. Also gay and a cop. If that confuses you that's your problem, not ours. The world's various cultural mixes don't have to conform to your views.
You must've loved the 80's !! They were sic here in cali back then.. Bumpin Connie, funky lil beat cruising down the ave..Great Memories my bro.. Right on for keeping it on hit . ONE LOVE ..
i love how no matter the cars, style, or type of racing/shows people do, cars always bring people together. no matter the style of cars, JDM, euro, lowriders, etc, its a mutual passion and they know what it takes to put into a car and the effort and time. such a unique passion and i love seeing people brought together through cars.
Coming from a girl in a Chicano family, that was raised in that lifestyle. we got some firme cars and i'm so glad you go to experience our culture. I really hoped you enjoyed it. We always except all types of people and we love when you guys come to our car shows and experience everything. Also I love your content and keep up the great work!!!
I was fortunate to meet this family and take my quince pictures with "la mera mera," while my time in Texas. Chicano culture is beautiful, proud Chicana watching this video.
Coming from a Chicano with 3 Lowriders. Cruising is definitely a fun and exciting thing to be able to do on a nice weekend when you have Lowriders. It’s apart of my culture and I love this hobby that can keep me out of trouble and just have a fun time. Much respect for this guy and sharing the Chicano culture with all of these lovely people on the internet. And huge respect for the familia in this video for having such a warm welcoming for the couple. 🇲🇽🇲🇽
You barely scraped the surface of what it means to be a Chicano. I myself is Chicano but was raised in California. It is absolutely beautiful how this family and their low rider community welcomed you! Thank you for sharing!
When dude said he was in prison talking about he needed a car when he got out, I felt that. Cars kept me out and still keep me out of prison and trouble.
Chicanos and black Americans have SOOO much in common. I used to think lowriders were a black culture thing, but seeing this opened my eyes. Plus, our styles are very similar. Bandanas, hoop earrings, lashes, long nails, its all stuff I’ve seen in both chicano and black culture. It’s dope af.
Mexicans started moving to Compton in the 80s and that were the Compton black dudes picked it up since both communities loved in the same neighborhoods
Mirue - no disrespect, but your comment shows that you don't know much about Latinos and maybe other cultural groups. Lowrider cars and culture originated with Mexican Americans. Over decades it's spread in popularity. Again just straight talk.
This made me so happy my family is like this too all into lowriders listening to oldies cruising in the car was my favorite thing as a kid and still to this day. The low riders are absolutely stunning. I love them.
Great video! Great message! I am from Reno NV, shoutout to Hot August Nights. I am an Italian American and I grew up in racist household. I was taught to fear Mexicans. It wasn’t until my early twenties that I found that the Mexicans are some of the most loving, respectful, and family first type of people! My best friends are from Guadalajara and we absolutely love sharing our cultures with each other.
When he said his goal is to join multiple families across the United States for 24 hours to see how Americans live, sold me right then and there!!! No I’m a subscriber and gave us a big thumbs up!
My dad is Chicano (Zapotec) but he grew me up when I was with him off the Rez but, cruising with him in at 55 bel air lowrider made fall in love with my Chicano culture and the blend of my Anigilohi Cherokee heritage me build my own combining both in my 64 impala lowrider rn.
Gotta love Mexicans man, Always so welcoming and loving :) Truly one big family! 6:20 Def not offensive cars just give "GTA" vibes because they're so nice
@@iseytheteethsnake6290 Chicano are just Mexicans born here, Mexicano are native Mexico Mexicans. Either way you gotta be traditional to cling to either most Mexicans go by Mexican. If that’s what you’re referring to and I agree both two different things.
i’m from dallas and currently still stay in dallas. i love it here and the different cultures! my boyfriend has a love for classic cars as well and he connects well with lots of chicano’s ❤ oh and GO COWBOYS ‼️
First time ive ever heard of or seen this channel. Love the idea of visiting real families and showcasing their uniqueness. Bring some positivity into the home
Nice video bro! 11:58 damn… seeing that DHR sign really got me choked up… as a die hard SPM fan it really brought me joy seeing people interested in his work. 🇲🇽💪🏽💯🔥
I've been saying how much I love the lowrider scene.....u guys just convinced me to somehow join in the love in ur community...... obviously the cars drew me in first....now it's the love u have for all....love u guys man
lowriding is definitely a family "tradition" as we would call them and the cars are usually passed down from the dad to the oldest son as we were all told
Your point of reference for lot of these cultures goes back to cartoons and video games. Glad to see you are broadening your horizons. If you live in a major US city and mingle you can learn a lot about new cultures as well.
Having a my dad deported at a young age I always battled with my identity but Spanish people always embraced me one of the most loving cultures out there much love
Gracias for doing this, and asking the right questions. Our culture and lifestyle has always been misunderstood. We’re not all “cholos”. It’s about the passion we have for keeping the past alive through our rides… chicano lowrider style. You’re invited to all carne asadas from here-on out.
I absolutely loved this video , being from Texas & seeing my old neighborhood made me think of all the memories. I follow his daughter on IG , it’s so refreshing to see something familiar on YT 💖✨
I just want to say congrats on your life change and you are very talented it's very easily seen that this is your passion and I am a big fan of lowriders I think I've seen your car once before at a show anyways you have a beautiful family that seem to be very proud and love you with their whole hearts good job with what you have accomplished
Great Great video showing the beauty of the lowrider community & cars. Brought back alot of good memories of me growing up with my Pops. Ty for sharing your experience into our culture.
They were at the Trunk or treating Low rider event yesterday in OakCliff! Very cool you guys were around Dallas. I am chicana. Very proud and glad to see you show our culture and neighborhood.
As a Chicano Lowrider, I can tell you that I get judged a lot in North Carolina. Maybe it’s the tattoos and baggy clothes. Maybe it’s the Raiders gear. Either way I respect everyone and always down to show people love.
During my teenage years I grew up with a lot of migos and have made some lifelong friends. I love when I’m invited to their get togethers bc it’s always a lot of love, good food, music, and alcohol lol. Love this episode. Much love all the way from GA
I found the same kind of community in the car audio scene for subwoofers, there so much you can do from little stuff to full DONK builds. The people are amazing and its a mad science so it really brings the community together. If your in Texas I know Dallas has one of the biggest DONK car scenes around and might be work tracking down.
Man I still remember seeing my 1st lowrider out in Moreno Valley CA when I was 12. It was a candy red 64 for sale. Since then I’ve had a passion for them. I’m now 43 and have owned a 79 Cadillac, 63 impala and 62 Chevy fleetline. It’s more than just a car, it a culture..
Wow what an incredible opportunity to experience the lowrider culture. I always liked the style of low riding that i saw about a doz parked in a dark parking lot so I walked over and asked if i could checkout their cars and they were so friendly and said i could.
German born in Kazakhstan watching. Married to a man from west africa. Lived in Spain as well. Felt "cosmopolitan" all my life. Touched by your videos. Thank you ❤
Great video I really can tell you had a very nice time exploring the lowrider culture. I live in Dallas Texas and have been here for 6 or 7 years now. I've always liked lowriders since I was a little boy, I think I will look into finding out about the Dallas lowrider club and make me some new friends out here thanks to you and your video. 👍🏾
I really can’t wait for you to come visit a Native American family as a Native American you will be very welcomed and greeted and treated like family. Can’t wait for you to see our culture!
Lowriding hands down is the best car sean its all about family respect helping one another having fun it don’t matter where you from tho color of your skin none of that. ive been lowriding sense 8 years old i had a neighbor that built cars him and his friends would come to the back alley and fix the cars and hit the switches from that point on i was hooked starting with lowrider bikes then to cars once i got my license now im cruising with the guys that got me into im in Rhode Island where lowrider sean isn’t that big but we are growing every year getting more car built and out in the streets trying to inspire more kids like i was to get into it and keep lowriders alive forever 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Car culture around the world is always so nice to see, Never in car culture have i seen prejudice or racism, sure someone may make fun of your car but that is where the insults would stop and at the end of the day the people making fun will have all the tips and tricks to help you make your car better than it was before. Can go anywhere on earth and immerse yourself in the car culture, what i love so much about cars, its the interactions with other people that come with owning cars.
It's stuff like this that makes me love the car communities more and more. I've always loved lowriders, the detail work that goes into them is amazing.
I've got a lot of lowriders working in my Vegas resort kitchen. My passion is cooking. But there's is their car's. It's a lot of fun being the 50yo white guy hanging out with them. They all look so different outside of our chef's uniforms.
Always nothing but love in the lowrider community. I grew up around this lifestyle and still to this day love the people, cars and culture surrounding it.
I need to work on myself to come together with people like these, these are my type of people man. I stay in Dallas too, that is the sort of vibes I want. These cars are sick too, I have always loved Lowriders. I am just struggling rn, but in the future, I want my dream car. a 64 SS Impala candy red but a wine looking color, that would be a banger. and the whole cookout thing thats so amazing holy crap man, the culture is so amazing.
I remember cruising Whittler Blvd around the same year. (1978-79’). It was WONDERFUL. There was hardly any hostility. (You always get a ‘drunk fool’ from somewhere.). But, It was mostly chill.
I’m from Michigan so seeing these kinda cars aren’t common but when you do see them you just stop and stare. Whole other world I would love to know more about. Sweet video! 😊
I loved this video. Even though I don't know anything about lowriders, I admire the fact that this is more than someone's hobby, it's a lifestyle. Also, it's sad that Mexicans don't consider the Chicanos as Mexican, when have me a black person considering them as Mexican.
For a white boy growing up in East Houston in a all Latino hood. The barrio haha i loved it. Already growing up around car culture my dad was a gear head he would build pro street trailer queens and race but i fell head over heels with lowriders, cruising,. Just Hispanic culture in general you know. I use to scoop up lowrider magazines any where i could find them and draw lowrider art in school and home. We would see the older guys cruising in there lowriders on the boulevard and watch them hopping they had all the pretty girls. We wanted to do the same thing!!! Plus i love Mexican food i can eat it for breakfast!!! My buddies would let me wear there Rollin hard shirts to school cause my dad wasn't with me following the movement 😆. But i did anyway. Me and my Hispanic homies did everything together. We work together, We ate together, party together, fought together, and fought each other, everything. Never a dull moment!!! Some really great people who know how to have a good time. I stuck out like a soar thumb but nobody turned me away. The commrodery among Hispanic culture is unmatched. I love y'all man. 🤘 To the good timez
Awesome insight to maybe the best car culture. I didn't hear any mention of the amount of money and love put into these fine rides. And every car, especially 1 with juice should have a fire extinguisher or 2 in it
I remember the first car show I ever brought my Honda to there was either lowriders or imports like Hondas and Subaru's mainly and the lowrider group were the only ones I actually got along with because they were so fuckin chill easy to get along with and talk with. Then you had the other Honda owners and stuff and all of them seemed so fuckin toxic.
Its definitely not my thing with the colors or pin striping.. but they are still amazing. The amount and quality of work put in to each of those vehicles transcends a job. It's an art, a lifestyle, and truly a love made with their hands and hearts. My hats are off to you folks for sure.
