This is the return flight of our tour to Elba. We cross the Alps in (for us) marginal but safe conditions due to low cloud bases and strong, gusty winds. ATC coverage included. The aircraft is an Aquila A210.
Remember to always have a plan B!

I'm impressed with your videoes and enjoy following along on these adventures. Especially when you fly on marginal VFR days and always seems to make things work. That is one of the things that most often holds me back from a longer cross country trip. Without enough experience it is dfficult to decide if the forecasted cloud layer, OCL CB's etc. are possible to pass through. How did you lean this?

Thanks for your nice comment. I would try and compare actual flight conditions to the conditions which were forecasted and get acquainted with meteograms at various positions along your route in order to gain experience. But most importantly, you just have to go and find out how it is on a marginal day, but be sure to have a plan B! In this case plan B was to turn around and land at LILO (Sondrino, IT) airfield and decide how to proceed later.

@@johannesb. That make sense. do you always use Windy as manin weather source? One of the things I find difficult is to decide is when I should circumnavigate a showes and build up clouds and when it is safe to fly through a shower or under the clouds (VFR) I was once given the advice that if I can see through a shower then it is okay to fly throug and if not, don't.

Yes, I mainly use Windy Premium and also GRAMET for longer flights. For short term weather I also include Gafor, TAF, METARS and Skydemons "Flyable" weather function. Regarding the rain question, I would have given the same answer, except if CBs are present and heavy turbulence and / or lightning is likely. You should also consider keeping a safe distance from the freezing level when flying through precipitation. Inversions and saturated warm fronts being wedged over cold air can cause freezing rain.
