Nikon SB 600/800 remote flash setup. (Nikon Creative Lighting System) I happen to be using a D300 camera, but for the most part the camera doesn't mater since I'm using the SB-800 in master mode.

Good stuff! I have a number of flash units ( sb 600 through sb 910 ) and this video helped me a ton!!

Thank you for your effort kind sir! :) I've had a few sb600's for a while now but setting them up is quite confusing... You've done a marvelous job in demonstrating the proper setup of those units... KUDOS! :)

Thanks so much. So much easier to understand than the manual. Keep up the great work!

Good point. You could use the FV (flash value lock) so there would be no pre flash. Or you good pre set it all in manual (the sb800 would have to be manual in su-4 mode anyway) if the conditions aren't stable enough.

@marv0083 No the su800 works the same way, just with IR light. If there is an object near the slave that is hit by the master's bounce light you may be able to get away with it. I can usually hide slaves around corners if the master's control flashes light up the room enough for the bounce light to hit the slave. Or you could use a mirror and some trial and error.

@marv0083 No, both slaves need to be able to detect the on-camera flash. They are very sensitive though. Be sure the sensor on the sb600 is pointed to wards a surface that will be hit by the camera flash and that may be enough unless it's outdoors. Also, test that it works without obstructions first. Another work-around would be to use a hot-shoe cable to run to the SB800 and run the SB800 as master. Or get pocket-wizards.

This was fun to use when I got it. I used the SB-R1C1 (SU-800 master 3-group controller + 3x SB-R200 & 1 SB-800 + 2x SB-600. Those SB-600's are amazing to such low sensitive 1/64th fill flash side & back fill. The SB-910 is easier or faster to get into master slave mode and it (like the SB-800) can control the SB-800 / 600 & R200's nicely. The R200's make for good colour effects to blend in. It looks like I can only balance group A-B in menu but have to adjust C separately or Did I miss something?

Thank you, for this I will test it later this afternoon I'm glad to you did this because I have had a hard time to understand how to set them up.

@paulrobertsimages Maybe if the sb600 are not using iTTL because the exposure measuring pre-flash would set off the sb800 in that mode.

The sb-800 can control 3 other channels, this includes other SB-800s in remote mode. It will do so much better than the D700 built-in flash too! FYI, it's possible your camera is in a setting that in incompatible with commander mode. I'm not sure what at the moment though. The DJ lights will not trigger the remotes, but if your luck is bad they might interfere with some shots.

hi question I have a d90 as my master and an Sb800. I borrowed an sb600. I tried to put the sb600 and sb800 as slave I wanted use the sb600 as my backlight on the subject which is not within the line of sight of the d90 (master) but the sb800 can be triggered and the flash of the sb800 can be seen by the sb600. But it can't trigger the sb600. is there a way using the AWL/CLS to trigger the sb600 using the sb800 which is my slave

You say it doesn't matter what camera used, but it does, not all Nikons (D5300 is mine) have the Command mode. I'm using SB800 and SB600, the SU800 works great but the SB800 does not.

The camera should not be in commander mode but the sb800 should be in master mode

Ok, how about this for a solution to the out of line of sight problem here? Use the sb600 as the direct in line of sight slave from the camera' s commander flash. Put the sb800 behind the subject so it's out of sight of the camera's commander flash but in line of sight of the sb 600. Use the SU-4 mode on the sb 800 to pick up the sb600 flash to trigger it (the sb800). As yet I'm not 100% it will work as I haven't yet bought an sb800. If you have any experience could you post back please. Thanks

i have an sb-800 and am considering getting an sb-600 or sb-26 as a back up and to use as a strobe light for creative flash photography. would appreciate your thoughts/insight. thank you, sir.

@bastian74 ohhh okay I thought the slaves signal can activate the sb600 behind my subject thanks for the tip! how about the Su-800 must the sensor be in the line of sight of the Speedlights to activate it or will it trigger speedlights even behind obstacle ?

My D700's pop-up flash no longer triggers my speedlights in commander mode and I'm trying to avoid buying pocket wizards..I have 3 weddings in the next month so I can't ship for repair. It seems like I should be able to make this set up work with the sb-800 as a master on my camera, and the sb-600 off camera as a slave. So...2 questions...1 - Can I set up another sb-800 as a slave as well? 2 - Since it relies on flash (light) to trigger it, does that mean DJ strobe lights, etc might interfere?

Can 3 Nikon sb-600s work together like you demo'd? If not, can 1 sb-800 and 2 sb-600s go off together ?
@EricJaakkola
@EricJaakkola 29 дней назад
@@wmricon they can all be set to the same channel, but I don't think a 600 can command another 600 to fire. The 800 can command others, up to 3 different exposure channels
