A kid from Canada with a whole new game to beat, it's kinda difficult but that is alright by me! (It's like the theme song, get it?) Edited by @AndrooTheNerd Gen 1 - • How to Win a Hardcore ... Gen 2 - • Pokemon Crystal Nuzloc...
I'm gonna change up the format a bit and talk more about the successful run, but this was recorded over a month ago before I released any of these. I hope it's still a good video.
Loved it. I’ve enjoyed the more explanatory nature of these nuzlock videos as compared to your normal narrative driven content. That said, I’m sure a more narrative driven version of your nuzlock videos will also be great. I would still like to hear you talk about you backups/preferred catches though.
I found the editing and VO a bit off towards the end, you were talking about using certain pokemon and where to find them, meanwhile the video is just cruising through the E4. I think it would have been nice to see the areas you were talking about a bit more edit: rewatching it a bit, I think it would make sense to show the E4 teams when you're talking about them. (obviously not really necessary in r/b runs since we're all so familiar with the teams there, but my ruby sapphire knowledge is lacking in comparison)
The route at the left of Mauville is still way better, because there are, in total, 5 trainers you can rebattle (The schoolgirls, the two runners and the two Pokémon breeders).
Another day, another Jrose video. I could get used to this, I wish this month wouldn't end. Gen 3 is my childhood, I always love when Jrose covers it more
Oh man, we’re creeping closer and closer to the end of the month of Jrose. It’ll be sad to see it go, but I’m happy it happened in the first place. I’m just wondering now what the last video will be. What could possibly top Weedle and Starmie runs in terms of anticipation?
Hey jrose! I’m loving the nuzlocke content here and there, quick note for Ruby, sapphire and emerald, Minun (and to the same extent Plusle) absolutely break the elite four for nuzlockes, if I’m not mistaken all the first mons of each member almost always go for a status move, you get substitute, then encore the status move they can’t use since you’re subbed, and then baton pass onto another team member that can either wreck their team as itself, or to baton pass to someone who can set up a bit and then just wipe their team. The RU-vidr Freezai explains just how broken Minun is for gen 3 nuzlockes. Managed to find a Minun for my emerald nuzlocke, and him and Ninjask chain baton pass cleaned the elite four little to no issue, and Minun was never a hinderance using throughout the nuzlocke either, ESPECIALLY with the 7.8/10 too much water hoenn region.
This may be Emerald only, but there is actually a way to guarentee a Magneton, depending on your definition of Dupes Clause! In Aqua Hideout, there are 2 static Electrodes, 1 of which you can catch, which if you count any member of that evolution line as a dupe, lets you go back to get a guarenteed Magneton! I would recommend this, as Electric Steel is a nutty type combination in older gens.
That description was amazing, lmao! So a lot of people sleep on Dustox, but it's actually very effective against Norman. Essentially protect and poison sting are all you need (unless you have access to toxic by that point, which is infinitely better). After Norman, though, it kinda ran out of its usefulness outside of being a catcher.
@jrose11 Thanks for struggling and having fun for us man! I used to do solo runs for fun when I was a younger and watching someone boil these games down to an exact science has been eye opening and I’ve been hooked since the beginning of covid. Love your content man. Also - these vids have to take a toll, so I appreciate what you do and you’re easily my favorite RU-vidr! When I see there is a jrose vid, I buckle up and watch right away
@@ninjaguyYT I'll grant you the 2nd one, but the 1st isn't weird at all. A bit ... proper or stuffy maybe, but not weird. It doesn't even sound stuffy coming from Jrose, since it seems so natural for him
I'm surprised you didn't mention that Breloom actually can't learn Spore unless you evolve it at level 52. Very impractical for a run like this and definitely the best example of missing out on a key move for the health of the team
But Breloom also has Technician bullet seed which can range from 75 to 188 base damage which is crazy and would be a great help for drakes kingdra (you would have spore and swords dance by now) and very reliable for Steven, and solo sweeping wallace, also i didn't pay attention to whether his breloom was technician so don't quote me on this
You can sweep the E4 with Linoone if you level it to level 53 and teach it Belly Drum, in Emerald it sweep the entire league including Wallace (there's a guide explaining exactly how and why this works), and in Ruby & Sapphire you just need to plan for Steven, which greatly helps with teambuilding for the league
Fighting types in Gen 3 were amazing. I haven’t watched the video yet but for sure Medicham with ice punch, shadow ball, brick break, etc can solo the E4. Also, water/ground is quite possibly the best type combo in Pokémon history so yeah lol.
@@TheBigMan920 I seriously love Water/Ground. Quagsire, Gastrodon especially, Whiscash and especially Swampert. There’s some I’m forgetting I’m sure but yeah they’re all great.
It's unfortunate that Swampert didn't survive until the E4 because it dominates like nothing else. Great stats, Surf and Earthquake demolish most of Steven's team, Ice Beam destroys Drake, and Brick Break for Sidney and Glacia. It generally can overpower Phoebe, though support doesn't hurt. Great run as always! Hope best mon Swampert gets to make a comeback in Emerald
You really can see on your figths that Nuzlocking is not your prime skillset. Switching in Marshtomp into focus punch had me screaming at the screen. Cool to see that you still create instructional videos for beginners even though this is not your comfort zone :)
In case anyone was wondering, Treecko is actually a VERY good starter for Hoenn Nuzlockes, despite it being the weakest starter, due to the abundance of water types and only being weak to two of the gyms. It’s still outclassed by Marshtomp, but only because there are very few grass type trainers in the game. Across all the generations though, Treecko does more for you in Hoenn than most starters do for you in other regions.
Agreed. Water type 8th gym, team aqua in sapphire, and and water type champion in Emerald counts for a lot. To be fair, Jrose relies a lot on leveling up to outspeed things in his solo run content, so maybe he also doesn't know how valuable it is to reliably outspeed your opponents when playing with level caps, which sceptile does.
Hoenn has by far the strongest starter trio of any generation. I'm not too bothered by the claim that Treecko is the weakest of the three, because it's still very very good. Reasonably speaking though, Torchic is the weakest. Struggles vs 4 of the final 5 fights in Emerald, 3 of the final 5 in Ruby/Sapphire, and is weak to the last 3 gyms while also being weak to the first gym.
Treecko would be so much better if it at least got Mega Drain instead of being stuck with Absorb until Lv. 29 while the other two starters get 2 40-60 power STAB moves as early as Lv. 16. At least this was fixed in ORAS by giving Treecko Mega Drain at Lv. 13. Also love ur Hooty profile pic btw lol.
While I agree that treecko is not a bad pick in gen 3 since you do get an abundance of waters, grass types in general aren't very good in gen 3, and outside of roxanne, if you aren't playing emerald, only the 8th gym is one where it has an advantage (with wallace for Emerald). And the thing is, you can easily guarantee a magnemite by catching a electrode in the Aqua Hideout of Lilycove, then backtrack to catch Magnemite in the Power Plant outside of Mauville. Not only that, staryu is pretty easy to get around the water routes near Ever Grand City/Pacifilog (or you can fish it outside of lilycove if you don't get wailmer there) which can learn thunderbolt and is a fast water type with decent special attack, which can handle the 8th gym more or less solo, and there is always the chance to get a oddish/gloom in either Slateport, Mauville or in some of the tall grass sections before/after Fortree. Coupled with the fact that if you are playing base ruby/sapphire, grovyle's learning moves pool is kinda bad up until leaf blade. And outside of all the above, Sceptile doesn't really bring you much in the E4 fight unless you're on Emerald, where it can have some contribution against some of Wallace's pokemon (albeit Tentacruel & Milotic can be tricky to deal with due to their coverage) Mudkip on the other hand, in addition to only having about 4 trainers with grass pokemon that are mandatory (3 of them being your rival, and no mono grass gym to deal with), gives you a free roxanne (more or less), if you are playing ruby/sapphire a free wattson fight (less free in emerald due to exploding voltorb lead), which can be a run killer or at the very least a hard fight , and once marshtomp & swampert is gained, can be a good pivot against random electric types due to it's immunity (pairing really nicely with the Broken Gyarados despite not having physical water stab yet). Stab mud shot while 95% accurate with the speed drop & raw damage output can deal with half of flannery's team, can learn Ice beam if you don't have an altaria answer for the 6th Gym, and can spam surf against tate & Liza relatively safely (especially Ruby/Sapphire where they only have 2 pokemon), and while not super great into anything specific in the E4/Champion fights, can be made of use with surf spam or just to take a hit & possibly bait some moves for other team members (Ice beam is a little less useful from Swampert because it isn't the fastest thing ever, so you would prefer a tentacruel/Starmie against drake). I will say though, ORAS did at least buff treecko significantly in movepool distribution (and if you use megas), so at least there it's a lot more viable as a starter
Your move choice in some of these fights is making me rage. But the month of JRose, or Jrosember as I've been calling it, has been making me so happy. Thank you for your work sire.
I find myself struggling to find new content from people this month but I can always rely on this channel to give me something to watch every day, loving it!
Honest opinion, Watson is the hardest fight in the game if you don't have Marshtomp or Shedinja due to the crazy RNG with Parafusion and only one or two chances to get a proper resist depending on your version and starter due to the high special attack and defense of Magneton since this is pre special split, so most available special attackers are weak or don't resist Magneton.
man ths is the game that made me a pokenerd thanks for keeping these old games alive i watch the gen 1 and gen 2 vids bc i wasnt born untill 99 i got blue but no hardware to play it on love the vids i still have my sapphire cart with 999:59 hrs on it lmao had that same save since 2007
in what universe is Gardevoir a "Late game evolution" it evolves at level 20 From Ralts to Kirlia and 30 for Gardevoir so HOW is this late game ? this is 5th Gym at latest
I know you hear this alot but I love you videos I watch them daily at this point. I've loved Pokemon since I was a kid but watching your videos makes me love the Pokemon verse more. Thank you for the consistent uploads and awesome entertainment. 😎
12:00 grinding very time consuming, kinda why I often rare candy. I’ve gotten deaths due to grinding, and tbh I want my deaths to be to skill issue at the important points
So while I think because the daycare exists and you can just trade time for levels, hacking in rare candies is justified. That said if you grind on mons you risk em to brain farts, but gain EV's so end up with stronger mons. I like these strategy guides because they're accessible for everyone, a kid who just has a cartridge can play Rather than someone who knows how to save file edit. Or is playing on emulator. So good job
I love this vids, brings back my nostalgia for all these games. Thank you. I got my first pokemon in 99 when I got Yellow for my 9th birthday. Thank you foe these feels.
I am so confused why you switched from electrode against skarmory then lost breloom. It outspeeds and resists all it's moves and it would at least two shot it.
Love the videos as always Jrose, was looking to do my own Ruby/Sapphire Nuzlocke and this is inspiring! Looking more towards your next solo videos too. Hoping to see more of Gen 1's more overlooked pokemon like Farfetch'd, Tangela, and Lickitung. Also... can you beat Pokemon Red and Blue... with only Missingno. or Pokemon M??? ...I'm kidding, don't do that.
Aron becomes Lairon at level 32, and Aggron at level 42. Lairon doesn't really have good enough stats to be worth using. Aggron is basically an elite 4 only pokemon due to how late in the game it's available. And you can just catch a Lairon in Victory road as your final encounter to get it. It's the poster child for Hoenn's "bad for most of the game, becomes great later on" problem.
Very nice video Although I did almost die of cringe when you switched out electrode in front of skarmory...and sacrificed breloom 😅 We all have our cringe moments
thank you so much for all the videos, im becoming a really big fan after my boyfriend introduced me to your content and now we have been watching you together often ^^
The route west of maulville is actually where I used to power level back when I played Ruby,Sapphire and Emerald as a kid. It helps out more than people think.
personally i think torchic is the right pick for a few reasons. your basically guarenteed a pokemon with type effectiveness, whether its seedot/lotad, wingull, shroomish, or trading a slakoth for makuhita. so once your passed roxanne, blaziken is the best mon for the elite four. solos sidney, glacia, and 5 of stevens pokemon. rough for the gyms but easy endgame
Pretty sure magnemite/ton is a guaranteed encounter if you get an electrode from the hideout which is it’s own area, and then go to new mauville afterwards
i can still remember my old emerald nuzlocke. my marshtomp died to a ninja boys koffing using selfdestruct in my face. i lost like 3 party members including my route 101 encounter to the parasol girl on the route past fortree city who has a Thunder Manectric... in the rain!! And My Hariyama pulled a "Ron Weasely", by letting itself take the hit of Wallaces Milotic so my Magneton could come in on full HP to win! (refering to the philosophers stone wizards chess scene, towards the end of the book/film)
5:09 I used shedinja in a casual playthrough and it was practically useless at the elite 4. Sydney specializes in dark type which destroy shedinja. Ice type member wants hail up at all times. Obviously other ghosts destroy it. Dragons tend to have fire coverage or rock moves, Steven is also well prepared for shedinja special mention goes to skarmory who can set up spikes so that shedinja can instantly faints upon switching in.
I'm heavily into the shroomish camp. Shroomish, paras and bidoof are my 3 favorite Pokemon. Period. They do stuff. You have to keep shroomish from evolving until 54 to get spore 😢 but brick break is a great tm to tack on to that breloom once it's evolved. Along with false swipe. And just hang on to gigadrain for stab. Love this little shroom!
yeah the part about ralts being weak is so true, ive tried using ralts in oras in the fighting gym, because i thought psychic fairy should be insanely good there, but no, despite the 4x resistance it got bodied, dont recommend.
Maybe you could do a "rival run"(?) so use the team of your rival (with their respective move sets and levels) to beat the game. Whenever you beat a rival you "earn" their team and you can see if it is actually possible to beat the gyms etc. at the point of the game with the team your rival used to beat them(?) I think this would make for a fun run :D (don't know if it's doable or in which gen this would be best, would need to stop exp gain as well).would be fun to see the games from the eyes of the rival ^^ (posted this on the machamp run as well, hard to keep up with all thiose runs :D)
In one of my Emerald runs, I managed to get a Lombre and a Dustox for Norman. This meant that I was able to protect with Dustox->switch on the loafing turn to Lombre->Fake out->switch back to Dustox->repeat until Slaking fell into Mach Punch range from Breloom. Even then it was kind of tricky because I had to thread the needle of keeping Slaking above healing range but low enough that Mach Punch was guaranteed to kill.
