Nice try selling an absolutely awful feature. The lack of intuitiveness, the lack of ability to feel what is happening, the lack of ability to find it easily without thinking about it are all lost. This is one of the worst design trends of the last couple of years.
I had a bad experience with a rotary gear shift and that was in the Chrysler 200. I hated it with a passion. I couldn't stand it, I was always having trouble with that. I'm not sure if I want to switch to all-electric or a hybrid and have to deal with another rotary gear shift or not.
So how do you know if you have shifted into reverse or park when maneuvering in say a parking lot?. Frequently I want to select Reverse with the wheel turned and cannot see the dashboard indicator on my Bronco sport so I have to look down at the rotary as it does not have positive detents and you can easily go beyond reverse into park. This is dangerous and annoying As your have to allow extra time and worse you have to take your eyes of the surroundings. They should have much more positive detents or stops as you can keep spinning the knob and not know what gear you are in . It’s not a safer design to use. It could be easily made as a back and forth stick electronically. It might be safer for the transmission but not the driver! Cheers Warren
Great review ! What if during reverse with parking and it’s in currently in reverse mode , if you leave the pedal and opening door ( during 2-3 seconds ) Will the car moving back during those quick timing
Ridiculous "engineering." This is not intuitive. I jumped in a rental and kept pushing the symbols like they were buttons. Let's see, let's try to look innovative but use a rotary dial!?
