New episode A Dance of Dragons Aemond kills Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys, Aemond joins Aegon and Ser Criston Cole in the battle at Rook's Rest. #houseofthedragon #aemondtargaryen #daemon
Ignoring the fact that it is complete nonsense to call Angòs against Vhagar on Meleys, they got lucky on the first assault and should have retreated. The only viable strategy is a well placed Dracarys that kills Aemond. Aside from that, a competent woman like Rhaenys would not have forgotten that her mission was to relieve the siege of Rook's Nest. She defeated one dragon, possibly killed the king and thus ENDING THE WHOLE WAR... and she goes against a bigger dragon? Nonsense piled up over nonsense.
@@RealKillerloop meleys can actually beat vhagar in a 1v1 but that requires her to be in best health and at the end she was retreating, but vhagars he batman of dragons for some reason being able to sneak on on anyone from a position where it would be impossible
@@RealKillerloop like it made sense with Luce since they were already in the air with cloud cover, but at rooms rest and where vhagar was that would need to be a jump, which would not get her in the air
@@RandomMackem0069 not even there since Vhagar is way heavier and slow than Arrax. How could they pinpoint a upward lunge from below the clouds (no vision, storm raging, heavy rain)
@@forcecaptainoverlordsuprem2964Aegon wouldn't be friendly and go along to their peace parties if that were the case. He'd either triple down and try to commit genocide or accept the deal silently and never say anything about Dorne ever again
It’s not shown in this clip but the shot where they show Vhagar’s wings partly obscured by the treelike flying into the battle with the men looking on in horror and awe was BRILLIANT.
Not to mention that Rhaenys was the only daughter of Baelon’s brother and best friend Aemon. To think that the former’s dragon would be the one to kill her.
I love this scene so much bc Rhaenys doesn't allow Meleys to die alone, she goes to battle and dies with her "old girl"... The bond and connection shown in this scene is amazing...
@@ComeAndSee101 in the book, in the show sunfyre got his chest ripped, wings tored, took a fireball from vhagar and fell from as high as meleys. unless they add plot armour and chose to follow the book (which they dont do that often lol) sunfyre will not recover from this and rhaenyra will die from another dragon. I don't see why sunfyre would actually recover from all of this in the show, in the book rhaenys lost the 1v2, in the show she managed to shut down sunfyre and aegon. anyways, we'll see, theres no need to argue, let's just appreciate the show
When Rhaenys lets go of her handles as soon as Melyes dies... that's when I cried. This scene was much more emotional to me than anything in Game of Thrones.
@@Buddhistsocialist wdym? Meleys and Rhaenys have a much deeper, emotional bond and have been together the longest… Daemon and Caraxes are just battle maniacs
Aemond was focused on killing his brother. Rheanys could of fled at that point but she knew taking down vhagar was a must. Or to atleast cause injury to that big old she dragon. Rheanys looks tired but determined.
Yeah they made it a little more poetic on the books at least. Because even tho she run into an ambush she stood her ground and fought both of them. They did this fight really dirty on the show
@@alyrousse8605 Honestly I wanted more from Rheanys atleast. Just a little more fight in her being that she and her dragon are seasoned. Vhagar is seasoned but her rider isn't. Had she had focused more on killing Aemond which would of shook up Vhagar then her death would of been more worthwhile.
@@lydiabrady9000 > Vhagar is seasoned but her rider isn't The proof of the pudding is in the eating. And you're talking as if dragons strategise when it's the rider who does. Aemond outwitted her, so clearly he's seasoned enough.
2:32 seeing this depiction of kin clashing their flying nukes horrifically at one another in the sky for their own military faction is borderline barbaric. What a splendid display to witness in a battle.
They way meleys looks at rhaenys when they make eye contact you can tell if that final moment they knew there was not retreating this was a battle they had to finish live or die didn’t even need a command just knew what her duty was
@@clos3078 She got outflown by basically a hatchling, the only thing that allowed her to catch up was a storm because he got tossed around by the winds and Vhagar is big enough to ignore them. She's old af and slow af, the only thing keeping the dragon relevant is the insane plot armor. Just like how she can hardly lift her head off the ground, but magically she can fall hundreds of feet from the air and walk it off just fine. Either she is brittle or she isn't, the writing for her is just bad and she's nothing but a plot armor character way past her prime who somehow manages to be "op" cause of loose writing. So yes Meleys could have EASILY outpaced Vhagar and still managed to go 1v1 with her in the sky if she had not been ambushed. It took 2 Ambush attempts to finally do her in because even in a 2v1 she still came out of it relatively unscathed.
she did command her to attack again. that look was just them connecting with each other. the funny thing is she could have killed aemond when they were on the ground. it's kind of ridiculous that she could lose sight of something that big on the ground.
@@smellypatel5272 well considering she body slammed that old bih she could of scorched aemond while she was still air borne the sheer size of vhagar it would of taken her too long to take flight so she could of taken advantage of that as well so Meleys chances were pretty good ngl
I literally jolted when Vhagar swooped in like that at the end- the attack oh geez… ik the same happened to Luke (nothing can compare to that moment) but this one in particular had me shedding a couple of tears. Rip Rhaenys :(
Both sides weren’t agressive enough. Aemond and vhagar could have burnt down dragonstone any of the times caraxes meleys and syrax weren’t there. As far as the blacks they should know vhagar is the tru threat and the only way to take vhagar off the board is to kill aemond. Either assisination or send in caraxes meleys and syrax to target burning aemond. Without a rider vhagar will go sleep all day
@@jimbrewer5048 I thought about the first part of what you said a bunch of times too, but I wondered do you think if Vhagar had attacked Dragonstone(Assuming both Meleys, and Caraxes were not there, I think one of the three is almost always there) That Vermithor and Silverwing wouldn't come out? Don't they nest there?
Unfortunately it's gonna become ALOT sadder, im not gonna ruin it as I urge anyone who's read ahead not to ruin it for those who haven't, I will just say prepare yourself, none of us like seeing these dragons die, but its part of what sets this show apart
Absolutely insane to think that Daemon and Caraxes' succeed in felling Vhagar. Granted everyone died in that battle, but Vhagar is a damned tank with wings that can lay out everything - just goes to show Daemon and Caraxes as a Dragonlord and Dragon duo were a cut above the rest.
I mean, Meleys did pretty good all things considered. And Caraxes is actually a fair bit bigger than Meleys if you look closely, his neck is pretty much the same thickness as Meleys' but he's so long that he's actually probably much closer in size to Chagar than most people think!! He's more experienced and has a more experienced rider than Meleys and Rhaenys. Caraxes and Daemon really did have a legitimate shot at taking down Vhagar straight up and they did...
Caraxes and Daemon know battle and war, Maelys and Rhaenys were green as summer grass no matter what the producers like to play at, hey had a combined battle exp of 0... Daemon will play it right, get Caraxes up and DIVE upon Big V's fat juicy neck. And jump upon her to take down Aemond sorry soiled @ss...
@@MadnessIsRising Because she spared Aemond last season, which now bites her back considering he "started" all this war and goes against Rhaenys' seek for peace. She was also the only TB member with a dragon sort of capable of facing Vhagar in a fair exchange.
The acting by the actress playing Princess Rhaenys (Eve Best) is just perfect (especially at 3:43). You can tell her character is exhausted. It's almost like she doesn't have the energy to even be panicked or scared. She is just spent.
Here lies yet another reason why Aegon is NOTHING like Joffrey. Aside from one being just a petulant and somewhat glutenous teenager who does actually have a heart, unlike the sociopathic sadist, Joffrey Baratheon/Lannister, Aegon actually had the balls to not only join his men in battle but also go up against a much bigger opponent, whereas Joffrey basically sh*t himself when Tyrion merely suggested he join his men at the Battle of the Blackwater.
@@Leondegrance2 If any enemy knight had managed to come near him, he would've been dead. Doesn't matter if you've got a good sword and armor, if you can't use them. Also, Joffrey was still a teen/adolescent at that point, a full grown ass man trained as a knight would've ended him.
@@Leondegrance2 That's entirely beside the point. I would've said the same even had I liked him. If an enemy knight managed to close in on the other side's king, do you really think that knight would just breath near Joffrey? What do you think that knight would do to Joffrey? Give him a handjob? At least think for a second before you start typing.
Kudos for the actor, his physical performance with the mount, giving the scene the vibe of how massive is moving and controlling Vaghar and that “drakarys” with rage and without hesitation was remarkable.
I've been reading about dragon duels like this since I was a kid, but I finally got to see it realized on screen with good CGI in a compelling story with great characters. This really seems like the first time this sort of thing was shown the right way.
That woman & her dragon toppled an enemy to the ground, and yet some how the enemy dragon was able to instantly recover and stage a sneak attack ahead of the woman. How goofy. Honestly.
It was also dumb to come back after sunfyre and aegon went down. Up to that point it was kind of a win for the blacks. I don't understood why she wanted to die..
The book version is much more epic and shows that Meleys is a menace on her own, it is only through the combined efforts of the two dragons that she gets defeated. I get that they are going for the "subverted history" angle (aka changing some elements from Fire and Blood) but turning a juggernaut into a ninja makes both the story and the spectacle underwhelming.
Once Rhaenys and Meleys turned around after bringing Vhagar down I already knew she was gonna pull another sneak attack. I was literally saying “fly higher,” at the T.V.
Right? I’m watching this thinking it’s unbelievable how anyone has talked about in this series how it’s the biggest most war experienced dragon and nobody is looking for her on the battle field
People keep saying is dracarys is bad. But i believes this is the most spiteful and malicious dracarys i have ever heard. You can feel he was happy to burn Aegon as retaliation for all the humiliation is suffered.
"Princess Rhaenys made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and a crack of her whip, she turned Meleys toward the foe. Against Vhagar alone she might have had some chance, but against Vhagar and Sunfyre together, doom was certain. The dragons met violently a thousand feet above the field of battle, as balls of fire burst and blossomed, so bright that men swore later that the sky was full of suns. The crimson jaws of Meleys closed round Sunfyre's golden neck for a moment, till Vhagar fell upon them from above. All three beasts went spinning toward the ground. They struck the ground so hard that stones fell from the battlements of Rook's Rest half a league away." The Dying of the Dragons-The Red Dragon and the Gold chapter in Fire and Blood
That fucker has tormented him his whole life, including in ep. 3. Don't forget Aegon is a rapist, as per last season, and had spent years bullying others. Kind of hard to feel bad when karma aka Aemond slaps him in the face.
He’s always been like this. He made it very clear that if he had any opportunity to take the throne, he would take it, there is absolutely nobody bare maybe his mother he wouldn’t throw outta the window for this. All for the spite of the mockeries he still didn’t digest as a kid.
Princess Rhaenys gave a good fight. Aemond just wins with sneak attacks. I wish Daemon and Princess Rhaenys would've just jumped Aemond and ended it earlier.
If aemond had hunted rhaenys, you would all say "see everyone, look look how vicious the kinslayer is! aemond is a sadistic monstr" ....cz you people come up with any stpd biased sh to say
@@doge050 yeah, they also have the audacity to go on & on about "tHey uSeD sNeAk aTtacKs" while their reckless fav basically ended 100s if not 1000s of lives at the dragonpit coronation with her useless lil dragon, whereas Aemond tries to be as tactful & cautious as possible to minimize the casualties (the green army) below him, dude actually learned his lesson that a dragon is not a toy & can cause proper devastation...team black are a total joke
They had so many dragons that their dynasty was able to run hundres of years. Instead they weakened themself so much that it was easy to overthrow them. This is kind of good life lesson.
Spoilers . . . . . . . . . . It's kinda odd to me that it ends up being Caraxes that takes him out, makes one wonder just how the hell that can be done
Aemond is turning into a proper villain. Bro is killing kin left and right and gives no fucks at all. Imagine trying to kill the king, your brother, and weakening your side’s power just to be petty about being made fun of. Dude kind of needs to die because this immature vengeful nature of his is too destructive. This is exactly the theme of power being in the wrong hands.
How does it weaken their side ? If anything people will show more support to the greens if aemond is king especially with his dragon. Ps. Aegon isn’t dead
Anyone notice when Rhaenys makes her approach to fight Aemond she comes up from behind/underneath the castle the exact way Vhagar does moments later when he kills her? 1:47
Her orders were to protect the castle but with both sunfyre n vaghar there wasn’t much of a chance so if she fled she would have abandoned her duty she knew what choice was before her n chose to go down like a dragon rider the queen who never was
@@undramulziinyam3725 Yeah….a war dragon like Vaghar, who fought in the conquest, shouldn’t be sneaking up on someone. That’s pathetic. If Meleys snuck up on Vaghar I’d be angry even though I’m team black. That isn’t a display of power, it’s a display of cowardice.
Rhaenys really was that warrior queen. I read that she had black hair in the books because she's part Baratheon. Would've loved it if they didn't change that.
This sequence was beautiful, it reinforces the dragons status as characters instead of plot props. Regarding Vhagar, Martin's dragons never stop growing (save for the being locked in the pit). Balerion died aged a little over 200. He couldn't fly for years and was crushed by his own weight with age. Vhagar is 181+ with huge tears in her wings, needing to run or dive to take flight. I could see her being great gliding artillery, but shrugging off that fall impact and the aerial maneuvering seemed a little questionable.
She took a shot! All or nothing! If she was able to beat Vhagar, the war would have been easily be over with, Team Green would be lost. The opportunity was there and she took it DESPITE possibly ending her. She’s a freaked BADASS!!
i gotta say thank you HBO, this scene gave me goosebumps, captured the awe that would come from seeing dragons fight like if you saw a nuclear bomb go off and still made me cry when meleys looked at her rider one last time
I can't get enough of Aegon getting blasted. After he killed all the ratcatchers, not caring about all the innocent ones just to get to the one guilty one, I'm really glad Aemond did this to get at her. No one can ever say he curries favor with the fish wives.
Great episode, can’t wait for the next 😅 I don’t think that Aemond is cruel because he gave them more than one chance to fly away but Rhaenys chose to go out like the true warrior she always was and sacrifice herself to spur Rheanyra into going to full on battle to get her throne back as that is what Viserys wanted.. I did tear up a bit when Meleys and her looked at each other one last time as they knew what they were there to do.. They had spent a lot of their lives together and went out together. And with Aegon, I think Aemond wanted to just teach him a valuable lesson on why he needs to stop acting entitled and listen to those around him as he feels regret in killing Luke and Arax when he was full of revenge and entitlement.. but that’s my take that I wanted to share 🐲
Double kill for Aemond. Despite all else he is a badass. The surprise attack from bellow bitting the neck was brilliant. Meleys was imobilized and couldn't breath fire. Perfect kill.
She was one of my favorite characters. Such stupid writing. Of all the experience she has. She had a chance to escape and chose to stay knowing she was at a disadvantage. Suicide mission for no benefit.
They way Meleys died was pure garbage, ain't no way they were that high and that big ass dragon came out of no where without them seeing. It was clear as day they could,ve seen around the castle and Vhagar was bigger than that whole castle.
In my humble perspective making Rhaenys go back because of honour, battle pride, etc, wasn't the best option. It worked for the dramatic effect of the scene but it didn't work in terms of logical narrative. What Rhaenys witnessed was fratricide. Only her, who was up there, knew that Aemond commited treason against his king. In terms of strategy it would make much more sense and be way more useful to the Blacks to make Rhaenys try to go back to Dragonstone and report what she saw, as it would be a much greater blow for the Green's cause. This said, it doesn't make sense either for Aemond to retreat after setting Aegon on fire. Aemond wouldn't want to leave the only true witness alive. What would have made more sense within this scene in terms of logical narrative would be Rhaenys attempting to return so she could inform the Blacks of the events and Aemond starting to pursue her with Vhagar, just as he did with Luke, with the intent of killing the witness and effectively doing so. It would be a less heroic goodbye for Rhaenys but it would be more machiavelic and in some way would be a different sort of tragedy. Especially since afterwards he intended to finish the job and kill Aegon with his sword. Why would he want Rhaenys alive and turn back? That would be half job done and Aemond doesn't think like that.
I was pissed off by her decision to come back. What for? It looks like screenwritters just had a note in script like: "DRAMA MOMENT HERE NO MATTER WHAT"
Meleys facing Rhaenys as if acknowledging their shared bond and memories, and Rhaenys' grief towards her mount and accomplishment in dying along side her had me bawling
The problem with her death is that they introduced Rhaenys as extremely cautious, competent and patient character. Her decision to attack Vhagar (not only once, but twice) feels off.
If she attempted to retreat, Aemond may have pursued her to Dragonstone, putting Rhaenyra and everyone else in danger. She had to take a stand for the larger cause, even if it meant her death.
Attacked the Sunfyre n Vhagar by Meleys. Rhaenys can fly back to Dragonstone but she wants to die in a fight with Dragon. Even Vhagar was not ready to go fight directly with Meleys. Vhagar was hide behind castle and attacked like one who cannot directly fight with Meleys. Both Rhaenys and Meleys are so great.
My favorite part of this battle is 2:32, imagine seeing the Dragons dance during battle. They still thought of them as Gods and to see that in person . . . Crazy
Daemon asked her to join him.to fight mighty V and she snubbed him... So yeah I am.happy that she went down!! Also what BS was about maelys and Rhaenys were fighters? When and where was that?? Mighty V, the Blood Wyrm and the Bronze Fury knew war not Maelys and certainty not Rhaenys!!! The fight in the book was an epic three way free for all shakedown, with teeth, claws and dragonfire and all three dragons going down. Here we have the producers going for ninja granny Vhagar AGAIN!! I mean V is hudge but let's have her be sneaky beaky behind a castle and grab Maelys when she is not looking?? What crap is this????
