If you have to carry a lot of techie dongles I guess the Aer would be better. But if you are going to use it like me for short trips not work related you will fall in love with the Bellroy. The look it's just stunning and it's so comfortable. The shape of Bellroy is so unique.There is nothing like Bellroy.

the bellroy definitely fits my style, simple looking but classy, materials longevity overtime. ..

For Canadians, Bellroy ships FREE and does not charge import tax (I think they have a warehouse in Ontario), while we need to pay for shipping AND import tax for Aer. Something to consider. Also, Bellroy has a sale going on for some color options of this 28l version, definitely check that out before you make the call.

Also the sales tax is super low, I think the warehouse or their Canadian office is located maybe in Alberta for that reason

AER: $200 USD, 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) Belroy: $239 USD, 1.1 kg (2.4 lb) I understand why you don't state the price in the video, but the weight of the bag is very important to me when considering a carry-on bag given that (in my experience) the weight limits will be hit way before size limits. For reference, the 400g difference is roughly equal to a Uniqlo down jacket AND a Uniqlo pocketable parka (yes, gotta love Uniqlo). Obviously the PH team don't seem to have this issue and I know you guys aren't gram-counters (or ounce counters, for that matter), but when I see a review for a massive 40L "carry-on" bag that already weights 2kg empty, it makes me really wonder why how you could get away with it. I'd be interested to know what kind of total packed weights the PH team typically travel with, and whether you've ever had issues?

Hey Jed - we hear you! Weight specifications are an important factor when using (and reviewing) a bag which is why it's one of the biggest cons on the GORUCK GR2 review packhacker.com/travel-gear/goruck/gr2/ but overall it does really come down to you, your travel style and the airlines you're flying with. It also seems like everyone on the PH team packhacker.com/about/team/ has some kind of fun and interesting travel story that has helped them adapt and optimize their packing list in some way. And even now we're still traveling and improving the way we travel so that we can share it with our community. While there are no plans to create this kind of content in the immediate pipeline, we do have some exciting stuff in the works, so stay tuned! 😊 Thanks for reaching out and sharing your thoughts with us! - Rebecca

Yeah. Lufthansa started weighing on my last trip. 8kg Max!! Crazy. Every little bit matters.

Sorry but I’ve always travelled on budget airlines and even they have never ever weighed my bag...
@MrJed_s

@@YounanPhoto to be honest I've only had my carry-on weighed on domestic flights in Australia (Jetstar probably). But if the bag is 40L and bulky, it might raise some questions as to weight. I guess most people just rearrange and wear as much as possible if absolutely necessary.
@MrJed_s
@MrJed_s 4 года назад
@@YounanPhoto Just booked a return flight to Tokyo with Jetstar (from Australia). They clearly stated that the carry on limit is 7kg TOTAL (i.e. no "personal item" or second small bag that isn't weighed). They also state, very clearly in the checkout process, "We have strict carry-on limits" and "we monitor weight and size limits at the airport". I'm inclined to believe them since a) Jetstar have weighed my carry-on before, and b) they charge a lot for extra baggage-$74 AUD for an extra 7kg of carry-on. Both ways. That's over 20% of the price of the fare. Apparantly they used to have a 3kg add-on, but they got rid of it in favour of 7kg option (not sure if it was any cheaper though). Didn't pay for the extra, so I'm definitely going to have to get creative! Good thing I did end uip picking the Bellroy over the Aer ;)

Work + travel. AER bag win a big one because of the tech admin compartment alone.

I just recently bought the Bellroy Transit backpack and have been using it all week. Having had the Aer and now this the Bellroy beats it for overall classy looks and comfortable to wear. The price here in Australia is definitely a lot better for the Aussie brand Bellroy as opposed to importing the Aer with shipping costs!

Andrea N : hey! You had aer 2 travel small before and you like transit backpack better? Can you tell us more what is in your opinion transit better than aer. Thx ;)
@atomicastros
@atomicastros 4 года назад
KraKra hi sorry for late reply! I prefer the Bellroy as IMO it is just a classier looking bag, and the materials are better, especially the liner material. I also found it had better organisation for my usage. I find the Aer rather “basic” in aesthetic, as well as the size is just a little bit better for here in Australia with pretty tight carry on restrictions. I also love the harness and the metal hardware on the Bellroy as well as their sustainability and production ethics. Aside from the fact that the Bellroy is an Australian product so the pricing is a lot better here as well as being able to get local support is also a huge plus as shipping from the US is very expensive. The Bellroy is so well made, where as I feel that the Aer is too dated for my liking, I also like that there are better colour options with Bellroy especially the Recycled Blue material with brown leather trim. The internal straps were great to hold my packing cubes - on a two week trip I recently took, I am VERY glad I have the Transit. I know most of my opinions are basically aesthetic - I do feel that the Bellroy is a “higher end” product than the super simple Aer. Cheers!

Guys it is really important aspect of usage convenience to have bag be able to free stand on the bottom or sides. Could you please mention that when you review the bags?

The [official] dimensions of the Bellroy is ~6cm taller than the Aer - but side-by-side they look very similar. I find official bag dimensions to be a bit inconsistent. Couple of questions: 1.Can you please measure the height of each loaded please? 2.Would you say the side water pockets on the Bellroy - when up against your back - are difficult to access? I'm thinking these would make decent pockets for valuables when on the metro or walking. I tend to put a decoy water bottle on top of the items so a pickpocket would only feel a bottle before the goods.

@PackHacker2 4 года назад
Hey Zakir - when it comes to measuring bags that are packed, this can be pretty inconsistent especially depending on the materials as they can stretch quite easily. But from comparing the dimensions of these two packs, they seem pretty true to size, but we're unable to verify 100% without the specific measuring tools. The zippers on the water bottle pockets on the Bellroy Transit are just at the edge of the back panel with the zipper against your back so they're pretty discreet. Hope this helps! - Rebecca

TY! Interesting, the Bellroy straps look pretty narrow. Does that effect comfort? ...speaking of comfort, could you please compare the Goruck GR1 and the Goruck GR1 USA Women's? Their Bullets interest me too. But the first two, I see no comparisons and I'm super curious.
