Aeroponics Online Calculator Reveal
Are you ready to take your aeroponics system design into the future? Well, I have the tool for you.
There are various high-pressure aeroponics designs. You can use HPA in a vertical stack system. Or you can retrofit a tower garden for HPA. How about a high-pressure wall garden. For larger plants, you’ll need an HPA bucket system. Maybe your fancy is microgreens or cloning.
These systems are all great for HPA. However, each and everyone requires a different design and setup. You can go about the design by trial and error, trying out things until it works. Let's review the systems used in high-pressure aeroponics.
1. Misting System - includes the nozzles/flow-rate, and misting interval.
Learn flow-rates: Accumulative Flow-rates. Hour and Day. to determine nutrient usage, tube sizing, nutrient residence time - how long to get from point A to B.
2. Delivery System - includes the tubing length and size. The number of fittings like elbows, tees, and valves. The inputs would be length, height, inside diameter, sometimes material type. We can determine the pump needed or losses due to the delivery system. The flow rate plays a vital role in this.
3. Charging System - includes the pressure pump and the pressure tank.
Flow range of pump flow rate (GPM), power usage in watts (current or amps), the discharge pressure of the pump. Running duty cycle continuous or periodic run time. Pump demands are dependent on the Misting and Delivery Systems.

Man, I'm excited! I've only just gotten to the part where he says, "You can do it the smarter way, using calculations and formulas...the method is obsolete." That's how I've been doing it. I'm an engineer and I don't do things trial and error if I can help it. I came searching for products that would meet my specifications and ran into this channel. Thank you for sharing all of this!

I have watched all of them in your High Pressure Aeroponics DIY MIX including your additional videos not yet included in this MIX (Aeroponics Systems Design Like A Professional Part 1 & Part 2, High-pressure Aeroponics Quick Connect Fittings the Right Way., AEROPONICS SYSTEMS PROFESSIONAL Calculator Update) I really appreciate the time you invested into developing this tutorial series and am grateful that your website and calculator is still up and running. I am hopeful that you will continue the series when you have the time. I would love to see how to monitor your system real time (PH, cooling, nutrient mix), touch on using grow lights when growing indoors, PH testing and maintaining the nutrient system to include how to know when it is time to change the nutrient mix or add to it., and how to do plant maintenance when growing larger plants such as tomatoes and peppers (how big of a container is needed or can you trim the roots). I was going to go with a Gardyn system, but then doing more research on aeroponics, I stumbled across your site and have decided to build my own system to have a better and possibly less expensive system.

General question: can you not put a pressure regulator before your solenoid battery so you can over pressurize your reservoir and maintain a constant pressure through the misting interval?

@@HighTechGardener if you pressurize your reservoir to 100psi and need to maintain 100psi +/-5psi to achieve the right droplet and velocity. Could you not put a pressure regulator on the reservoir side of the solenoids to hold the pressure at 100psi? You could then pressurize the reservoir to 120psi or so to give you enough pressure for the pump to recharge the system, meanwhile the pressure at the nozzle would still be 100psi thanks to the regulator.

The short answer is no. There are many variables you need to consider to calculate the misting cycle. Different plants will have different demands.

I have a question about the root depth from 12" to 18". If i use vertical tube. Shall i worry about that because root will fall down base on gravity. I am thinking about the vertical and horizontal layout now.

Hi Lee. Thank you so much for sharing such an incredible tool! I am a CS student and a physics noob. I would like to modify and develop this program furher on as an individual side project (so into plants nowadays) The calculation itself seems fairly simple because it's solely based on formulas. However, I am a NOOB at physics, pressure and so on...and I'd be very grateful if you could share the code so that I can take a look at the formulas you used.....It is totally fine if you do not want to share it, but it sure will be much more convenient since I would be able to locate where to start looking and study. So I've watched this whole play list (well done by the way) and I think I'm going to start building my system. High pressure aeroponics would be a good fit for me because I live in Canada and many things do not grow in my climate. I do have a few questions though. For example, I want to grow hot peppers and I have no idea of the amounts and types of nutrients to use. I dont know the proper spray times. I dont know the proper temperatures or humidities. I dont know the proper light cycles and spectrum type....basically, thanks to you I know how to build the system which is great but i dont know what settings to use. I work in automation and so i can definitely run a complex system but if you could tell me where to start looking for my setpoints then I would be eternally grateful. Edit: also, ph? Conductivity? Basically what are all the possible metrics to sample and control.

Do you have any parts numbers to help acquiring the tee misters that will be 1/4 inch tubing and 1/8 inch mister. I am having the darndest time finding. I had to run 3-8 tubing since I could only find 3/8 mister tee. Thanks for any help with this, still trying to learn and enjoying your videos. Look forward to learning more. Amazing work man. Thank you for your exerted efforts and giving it to us for free. One question though.. I've read somewhere that to get the 50 micron droplets, you would need nozzles with orifice diameter of 0.6 millimetres and hollow cone. The reason I'm asking is that I'm outside the US and cannot order from Amazon right now due to coronavirus. Therefore, I'm stuck with AliExpress and China Post. So would you approve the 0.6mm at least from a theoretical perspective to achieve 50 microns?

Hello: I've experimented with brass nozzles at 0.3mm with great success between 70psi to 90psi. A benefit of a 0.3mm metal nozzle is that it can be easily cleaned by applying heat to calcinate/burn the particles This nozzles can be found in eBay and AliExpress for worldwide delivery even during this times

I use a few different types. The most simplistic, user friendly, and cost effective for me are these two. 1) BN-Link Short Period Repeat Cycle timer. It works great for my needs. 2) Vivosun Short Period Repeat cycle timer. (I believe it's a re-brand BN-LINK, as they are identical except the true BN product has a Day, and Night time function. Both are available on Amazon, or most Hydroponic Supply stores. On Amazon they are $26.99, and $25.99 respectively. If you are the tinkering type, you can look into Adruino, in which allows you to build a complete monitering, and control system to fully automate your HPA system. One great benefit using Arduino, is that you can start small, and add to it as you gain knowledge, and gather components. It is literally a cost effective alternative to industrial PLC automation.

Hey Lee, You are da' bomb for all you do! I do have a question..When calculating, why do you use values starting from the accumulator, rather than from discharge port? I have lots of "stuff," between the pump and tank which causes PSI loss. Such as: Strainer, PSI Gage, pressure switch, recirculation solenoid (runs 30 seconds after 3 complete nute cycles to completely mix reservoir contents to promote consistency of cycle batching,) manual shut off valve, and a low lift check valve with a bypass (check valve gets swapped, and cleaned bi-weekly) LOL, I know how you feel about check valves. All in all, I imagine I lose about as much PSI between the pump and the tank as I do from the tank to most outboard nozzle. Thoughts?

Walt, Great question. The short answer is we can say pressure is the same in a given length of pipe if the flow is 0. Therefore, we can say the tank pressure should reach the pump pressure when the system is at rest. Now we treat the accumulator as the new source for the system. This is only true if the pump can support the demands. Thanks for the kind words
