Aeschynanthus radicans is a popular houseplant but it can be quite finicky. Admittedly, mine is not in the most optimum place for it, but it has produced beautiful blooms year over year.
In this video I go over some basic care tips including where this plant grows natively, where I'm growing it in my home, propagation, watering, lighting and more.

A beautiful plant..I have a lot of plants & now going to try to find one of these. Also going to share this video with my oldest granddaughter, she loves flowers/plants as much as I do. Which pleases me greatly ! I just took her shopping recently & all she wanted me to buy her was plants. When I take her 2 sisters, they are all about clothes & shoes..lol

I found a pot at my local nursery that was just some dirt with a few leaves stuck in the dirt. It was amongst the hoyas so I thought it was a young hoya and just grabbed it without hesitation. After I bought it I saw the tag said it was a lipstick vine. I keep it in a bright window that has a sheer white curtain and I have it ever so slightly parted so just a teeny bit of direct light hits it. It loves it and in seven months has become very full and lush. No blooms yet but I read it takes a year or so. I love this vine.

I have this plant, and mine is about 8 years old and is in a north facing window and is growing very well, she blooms all the time, and is super easy to propagate. I would love to get the variegated one it's on my wish list. Thanks Summer I really am loving this series.

Summer I have had lots of these plant varieties. My favorite one is an orange flower. It blooms at the end of summer. ✌🏻❤

This is literally one of my only plants out of almost 100 that HATES me! I even bought another one to make sure it wasn’t just me and that one is miserable too! I cannnnnot stop the leaf drop!

Too much water. Try to make a few cuttings and throw them in a more arid soil mix. That does really well for me. Also bright light and not much fertilizer

QUESTION! Are these care tips the same for the Black Pogoda? I am struggling with mine. Or will you do a separate video on this variety of lipstick plant?

I have a black pagoda that flowers sporadically throughout the year. It sits in a west facing window, I remember to water it maybe every 3 weeks to a month, and I only ever fertilize it while it is blooming. Just got a Cassiopeia variety this year, and it seems less robust. Maybe I’ll try the more frequent watering and fertilizing that you mentioned.

Hi Summer! I have both of those but my variegated one doesn’t look like it 🧐is! Hmmm maybe it will be when it grows more leaves🥺idk! Yours look great and I did get some flowers🙂

Ironically I'm living in Malaysia and my lipstick plants are just not the easiest. I thought I had them in the right spot but then it got too hot then too wet haha. I've moved them and the variagated one is doing much better although the radicans is still figuring things out

I procured a lipstick plant over the spring. It wasn't doing well during the beginning of its adjustment period. I had to remove a lot of leaves. Now it's fine and sprouting new growth! Is it weird to love a plant so much that you want to cuddle it? 😂 I try to refrain myself from touching it constantly and leave it alone. Anyway, it's one of my fave plants.

I have one and it flowers very rarely. Even that only 3-4 flowers that’s it. When I buy from the store it was full with blooms.

Mine is in almost state of bloom about 75% of time. You may need to stress it a little bit. I think the sun in my place stresses it a bit

Takes just few spider mites to invest large amount of plants and everything is gone how do you even stay calm with so many plants ?

Hi, there! I am a beginner when it comes to house plants, and I’m wondering if rotating plants (for sun exposure) is a thing. I live in a warehouse with only a couple of long skinny windows. I am wondering if I can rotate my plants so that the ones that can benefit from it get a turn in direct sunlight. For instance, I have 2 snake plants and I’m wondering if it would help if I rotated them so that they can take turns getting exposed to direct sunlight.

Rotate them as much as possible. They need the sun.

I read somewhere once that the lipstick plants flowers attract fungus gnats and digest them like a carnivorous plant does but now I'm looking it up and cant find anything about it, have you heard that before? I have a lipstick plant but it's never flowered for me unfortunately.

I always like your videos and all the info I receive but I just have to say that is one of the saddest looking lipstick plants I've ever seen. Where are all the lovely leaves? I would try biting the bullet and potting it in soil more appropriate for lipstick plants. That loyal plant with become a gorgeous plant. 😘
