no other 'rapper' could wrap their tongues around Aesop's lyrics & no MC could spit his lyrics at the pace Aesop does, soooo Aesop could spit #Eminem,JayZ, Lupe etc, BUT NONE OF EM COULD SPIT AESOP
uh...is that an ironic "what Drake rhymes with OK" reply? give me an adjective or sumthing ...a name of MC u think could wrap tongue round Aesop....u try reading his lyrics out loud while song is playing in background & see how well u keep up=whether Aesop b rapper or not. i still can't say "beautiful cartoon troopers swallow brutal futility with a teaspoonful of sugar" to the beat of Big Bang
sho nuff the energy in his performance is black hole type of force vs. feul injected hyfe, in that his art, LIVE, stops time, changes movement of wave patterns (light and brain) & once u feel there is no coming back to prior level. READING HIS LYRICS IS POWERFUL BUT HIS PERFORMANCE OF THEM IS SUPERNATURAL ENERGY
i saw aesop at one of his ACTUAL sets not playing one song on LIVE tv for the first time. Give the guy a break he is a very reclusive person, he was out of his comfort zone. Trust me at his concerts its way different. The only other artist I have seen who has stage performance like him is tech n9ne. Aesop raps his entire songs unlike a lot of artists i see only doing one or two verses and he doesnt have hype man doing every other line like some do. Also talk about performance ive never heard a rapper who enunciated every word as well as aesop. You may have no idea what hes talking about but you hear every word clear as day unlike eminem which is like trying to understand an auctioneer eating a pb&j sandwich
I've seen Aesop Rock live several times at multiple venues of varying sizes. Some of the best rap shows I've seen and I've seen alot. His performances have great energy in person that may not have been expressed well in this RU-vid video. See him live if you get a chance.
So glad he did this track on TV. The song's already a perfect middle finger to the industry and now it's right in front of their cameras. it's beautiful.
You couldnt name drop Puff? Or Drake? Or Dre? Ik Aesop is a phenomenal lyricist, maybe even one of the absolute best of all time, but dont act like Jay was ever a lyrical slouch
My buddy told me about this appearance. He was like "you didn't know he was on Late Night?" and I'm like "Why would he be on Late Night?" , he like "He did Dorks." Me "Wait.... Aessssss" best to ever do it, ever.
"I think we're all a bunch of weirdos on a quest to belong The songs are echolocation up in impregnable fog That's why it's odd to see a pile of imperfections and flaws Ascend a pedestal to patronize the rest of the cogs" christ man, doing everything I can to keep up. This shit is beyond fire.
Aes is the best dude :) recommend kinda going backwards through his discography, his newer stuff's generally less weird and indigestible. Although still trying to figure out what "Rabies" is about
@@fullmetalsnowflake2508 I know I'm late but aes actually says that rabies is about being in the woods untill you become the woods yourself After listening to it a lot (favorite song honestly) I would have to say that it does a grand job of depicting his mindset during and after moving to a barn in the woods before writing/producing this album. Heavy relatability over here, aesop rock over there
I promise you, nobody feels threatened by a scarecrow covered in crows who feel welcome; that's like hellions thinking hell is just okay but needs some polish - it helps to know intimidation's all about the optics Aesop is my Spirit Animal.
I'm glad to see him getting some recognition, but his lyrics are somethin you gotta get used to before you can appreciate really. Maybe some people will look into it after seeing that, though
The good thing is that even though truly digging leads to a better appreciation of his lyrics, the lyrics on "Impossible Kid" are less veiled for the most part as compared to earlier projects. So it has the potential to have larger appreciation, also he really nailed the production this time around. A lot of people got less interested when Blockhead quit being part of the equation but Aes has found a style that really fits him, a definite improvement from "Skelethon" back in 2012.
I think his work with Kimya Dawson might have set him in that direction of finding a balance between straight forward and abstraction. I can appreciate both styles and I think he nailed it on IK.
+Kelly Rankin Yeah, I actually do like "Skelthon" but I guess 8 personally like the beats better on "Impossible Kid" "Skelethon" is actually the first full solo project I listened to by Aes. His project with Kimya is what I first heard, I was a bit familiar with Kimye and thought it sounded like an interesting idea. I definitely got interested in Aes from there with all the heart he put into his lyrics on that project, so I checked "Skelethon" as it was the closest release at the time, glaf I found him overall, I have dug quote a bit deeper since then.
I listened to his earlier work via recommendation from a coworker. Not being a fan of hip-hop I found it very jarring. But, then I stumbled upon The impossible kid, and though the lyrics are still very cryptic and enigmatic, I found it very appealing. The more I listen, the more I get him. It took awhile, but I've really began to appreciate his earlier work. It's like jazz; if you don't know what you're listening to, odds are you won't like it. But, if you're acclimated to the style/atmosphere of the music, you can find an appreciation for it. When you become aware of the technical aspects of such a high caliber lyricist, it's a lot easier to digest what they're saying and at least begin to comprehend it.
Its different when you go to a concert where people are there for him not for a different host. Most of this crowd cant understand anything hes saying in his lyrics.
Yeah man, the song's a completely different animal with a room full of people bouncing and belting out the lyrics. Saw him on my birthday for the Impossible Kid tour.
Dude during his impossible kid tour when he came to dallas the whole venue was jumping and rapping along with aes man it was fucking bliss my first concert i ever went to and man ill never forget it my personal favorite artist 🤘
Saw a Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, and Dilated Peoples show in DTLA three years ago. Had been a fan of all them for well over a decade, dope show
one of the best shows ive seen in T.O. for this tour.and yeah man he connects with an audience, having him infront of an audience that doesn't get it no way he can be at his best
Yeah, I was just thinking of how fast time flies, I was stoked to see this performance and it seems like not that long ago, and then I see your comment is a year old as well haha. Oh my time is a strange thing.
Labor Days. Album aged like fine wine. Love all of Aesops music though. Every album is just an onion of metaphors about living this life and I love it. Still pick apart Daylight and learn something new and I've been bumping Ace since 2003. Greatest lyricist ever. No contest.
Lmao truths. I'm sure he doesn't mind though. These cats are two of my absolute favorites in history because it seems they genuinely do it for the love over the recognition.
@@t045tygh05t On the other hand, he got to be on national tv. Bobby is amazing, and it's maddening that he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. But it's also maddening that Aes was never on the tube, MTV shit notwithstanding, til 2016. If we get started on the maddening injustice of unrecognized genius in underground hip-hop, we'll be here forever.
Here's the thing....If I had never heard this, I would never have researched his genius. Aesop Rock is the fuse that lit my curiosity. Every night I pray he is recognized as the mastermind he is. This allows us to
i can only process the rhythm and measure ? of a couple of his songs let alone understanding the complexity of lyrics. if i hadn't read about him on listverse (? i think) i would have been sitting open mouthed at this performance doing the same as you. so nice to witness. -bub
I feel his music won't be appreciated until he's dead and people look back 50 years from now and see what a brilliant artist he is. Books will be written.
@@plaz_ai nah man there are a lot of people that adore this man now...I think hes a lot like Shakespeare...solid but limited fan base now but in 50 years he will be taught in high school and kids will go crazzy trying to decipher his lyrics
@@JimJamTheAdmin now if you’d been listening to Chief Crow & the Flat Earthworms I would have given you the credit, no dice. Lol jk going to go listen to whom ever that is now. Love hearing new (to me) music, so I left one in return ^. Enjoy
I own every solo album from aesop besides from music for the earthworms of course i gotta buy it online but i agree personally i think the impossible kid is his best work then labor days but i love both
and Impossible Kid and Skelethon and None Shall Pass and Spirit World Field Guide and ITS... oh damn. is there room for anyone else?! Aes has been on a perpetual tear for the last 20+ years I've been listening to him and never dispoints
Lol @ all these people being elitist about knowing Aes first and then going "the song is insulting the audience"... it's about other rappers, not the fans, and the song literally states as much outright. I'm all for TIK getting recognition - it's a great album and deserves lots of people listening to it.
Fabian Halblander I think he realized that with his new album and some of the songs on skelethon. They're a lot easier to decipher on the first listen which opens a new crowd of listeners.
I agree ☝️. His flow often takes a back seat to his lyrics, but he has such a creative flow. And it gets better over time. The new album is just ridiculous. Dude goes from half time to double and back to half flawlessly
For an introductory song they could have picked something a little different like, mystery fish or rabies, but it's good he's getting some kind of mainstream recognition
Gotta be the tenth or more time I watched this... I been following this dude since bazooka tooth, it was so surreal and satisfying to see him where he belongs. Fucking famous, dude.
So glad to see such a phenomenal artist get such a wide audience with one four minute performance. Hopefully some of the viewership researched Aesop after the show. Dude is a beast among boys.
"I think we're all a bunch of weirdos on a quest to belong The songs are echolocation up in impregnable fog That's why it's odd to see a pile of imperfections and flaws Ascend a pedestal to patronize the rest of the cogs" GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT
I love that he incorporates Instruments in his performances, which in my opinion feel that more Hip-hop artists should do as well. Instruments are extremely important and are very unappreciated these days.
Aes is the best out there in my opinion. His lyrics are just insane and his beats are so original. The Impossible Kid is his best, also my opinion, which is great because he's only gonna get better. Saw him live last year and he was incredible and you could tell he really enjoyed being there even in a small room in Maine. On the other hand I saw J. Cole, who i think is really talented for a mainstream artist, and he put on a terrible show. Barely gave a fuck to be there. It was nice to see someone like Aes kill it and appreciate his fans!!
Got into Aesop Rock from the THPS series. Took me a while to truly realize his genius and he still surprises me everytime he drops something. One of my inspirations alongside Atmosphere and MF DOOM. Sidenote: I love how this bassline sounds live, that tone is dope.
I absolutely adore how in between the chorus and the next verse he's like specifically gracious to the fans in the audience, and probably everyone who's a fan who's watching on TV or on the Internet.
Its really dope to see aes finally getting some real recognition. I've been listening to him for the last 10 years and I always wondered why he was so underrated. I did notice that he did adapt to the times a little more with this album which was one thing I felt he needed to do simply just to get a little more known but was worried it would ruin what makes him so great, but he was able to pull it off perfectly and still keep the style and feel that he's known for. Hats off.
Been a fan since i found labor days but this song is the absolute illest shit i ever heard. "I used to floss the albatross like daddy kane with the chain. trying to jettison the ballast with the hazardous waste" no MC ever will surpass this. If you havent read the old man and the sea you should ...trust me
Great performance, Question: Why the Fack is this video is private? How much longer do we have to hold back the good music from mainstream progress? Guess it's just a party over there... Love ya Aesop.
Debuts on live TV can never be taken back, but they can take you aback. Aesop has been Laboring since back in the Days. Phenomenal rendition. Also, where's the props for Rob Sonic?
