Great job. Your reviews are really supurb, thank you for taking the time! I have one question. I have a number of Canon EF lenses and wanted to know if these will work on the Sony FS100 or the AF100 with an adapter. Meaning it is possible or just a simple no. Thank you in advance
I recently bought a used F3 with S-log for $1100. That it is incredible considering the camera retailed for $20,000 in 2011. 5 years later and it's still one of the best cameras in its class. I guess I have to be thankful for filmmakers who get distracted by the next best thing.
Feel free to hit me up with any questions! Either here, or ask anywhere on my channel with a comment. As I'm a sound recordist, but I've owned a Sony PMW-F3 for years now.
Hi Philip. what's the name of the music used in the begining of this tutorial? It's not the Stardust Nathalie from Nat King Cole as you say in the end of this tutorial !!! Thank You.
can u plz advice what the best direction to go for a cam after watch ur review i think i shot stay with dslr. i presenty shoot with hxr ncam 5u but it does give me a cinematic shot. can u plzz help me with this decision??
Definitely reminds of me of the epic, too, and I have a hunch we are starting to see a standardization of this "shape" by the industry, and ergonomically it makes sense.
thanx for the download That was some vital info esp. for a beginner . I just bought this camera and its AMAZING! ALL my content on my page is shot with the fs100..
hello what is the difference between ag af 100 and ag af 101 unfortunately I can't follow your words because my English is not very good :) thanks Mr. Bloom
@kleyon11 lost me on point 1, F3 cannot shoot at 30db....point 2. That was shot at Christmas 2010, if you search my videos you will see the whole piece. It was a pre-production loan camera.
Just a thought for some of you. The FS100 can be shot upside down with the view finder under. I myself and many others have done that in a pinch. I also invert my view finder. Don't forget to flip in post.
Hey Phillip. I know its 2020! But i saw the Sony F3 for $800 now on EBAY. Would you still recommend the Sony F3 for narratives? I knows its only 1080p but that 4:4:4 seems amazing at $800. I'm coming from a Sony A7iii and A7sii realm looking for a dedicated cinema camera.
PMW-F3 Video? 1. Philip I love the video using the Sony PMW-F3 buuuut, I noticed for the Sony FS100 & Panasonic AF100 you placed subtitles on the video which basically says I shot with this camera at this setting but with the PMW F3 you don’t specifically say that the video was shot with the PMW F3 it just says “SHOT AT 30DB.” 2. How did you shoot a woman decorating a Christmas tree in May/June with the PMW-F3 yet the camera was not available until 2011? I’m not saying….I’m just saying ;-)
One thing I notice again and again is how the AF100 has more of a film look than the other two. They all have shallow DOF and 24p but only the Panasonic looks like film while the other two look like 24p video. Not sure what it is but Panasonic has always done an amazing job with the film look.
Now the GH2 hacked and/or GH3 need to be included in these video comparisons. In about a year, the GH4 with it's super secret improvements I've heard a bit about, will blow away the GH2/3! (if what I've heard about GH4 is true) Also, I just read this morning a GH3 hack is a work in progress. CAN"T WAIT!! :-).... is that Driftwood I see coming ashore?!
Philip, I always visit your channel for the best reviews and this one certainly lives up to that high standard. I have the NEX-EA50 which shares some of the criticisms lodged at the FS100. As you stated in the video, expecting that some company will come up with the "perfect" camera is unreasonable and each individual has a different version of a utopian camera for which work arounds must be employed (C'est la vie). After establishing the 180° shutter angle, iris and gain, I leave the actual exposure to a variable NDX filter. A simple enough solution for a camera which meets my other needs at a price point with which I can live. While, admittedly, the APS-C sensor of the EA50 is no match for the Super 35 of the FS100 (and FS700), perhaps the EA50 would be worth a review?
Đorđe Gajanin The Super 35 and the APS-C sensors are, approximately, the same size but that is where any similarities end. The Super 35 is optimized and engineered around video while the APS-C sensor began in still photography. The arrangement of photo sites and low megapixel count (3.43 MP for the FS100 and 8.3 MP for the FS700) makes the S35 sensor much more suitable for video. This allows the video stream to be removed from the sensor and processed accurately at a much higher rate than the APS-C and reduces such problems as rolling shutter and moire.
I shot timelapse with an adjustable slow shutter on my AG-AF100.... It works like a champ in low light with a slow shutter......=) I don't understand your comment about no slow shutter?
I made my own comparison between the fs100 and the 5DMKII. Tested a variety of different lenses in a studio enviroment just to test the general image quality in terms of sharpness and detail. You can check it out on my channel.
Hi there, are you familiar with "photo SFX art" (do a Google search for it)? There you can watch a nice free video showing the right way to create incredible photographs. It helped Joe to make photos that have a jaw-dropping-effect while you take a look at them. It might help you out as well.
@yhfilmproductions Lol, look close... the door was fully closed... The knob would have had to turn in order to open up! And the cat was INSIDE the room with Philip... it opened from the outside! The cat would have had to pull the door open! Lol
Right now you can get the af100 used for about 1000$ compared to the fs100 at 2000$ ans f3 at 4000$. For my uses I'll get the Panasonic for low budget production and rent a Red or Arri for bigger ones.
Blackmagic cinema is giving all these companys a run for the money. Panasonic Sony will never be able to release a camera at their quality under 3000 let alone at 2000 with their software black magic land but, war is over everything looks good enough
ooops. looks like they all fucked up, black magic cinema camera can be picked up for £2000 or $3000 and it does 2.5k takes ssd hdds and is half the size, its also got a thunderbolt connection and an inbuilt battery, not to mention the rear touchscreen. it takes canon lenses to, why buy anything else????????????????????????
