Affordable satellite internet in the Philippines

I’m not surprised that the President jumped at the opportunity to bring Starlink satellite internet to the Philippines.*
This will CHANGE lives - especially for those in far flung areas that aren't served by traditional internet services.
And likewise this will SAVE lives - providing vital communication services during calamities and disasters.
I was able to reach up to 200 Mbps in Quezon City, Metro Manila.
* As well as the lawmakers that ensured it would be able to quickly start operations.
Starlink Philippines is a game changer for rural locations!

As mentioned in the video, I don’t need Starlink because we have a lot of affordable high-speed internet options available in Metro Manila. I bought it because I want to have a unit on standby, ready to help during calamities and disasters. I’ve already arranged to meet a certain DRRMO, to demo how the unit works - so we can be ready for the future. Who knows, maybe the DRRMO will even buy their own units.

Great video. Thanks. I've had Starlink for about 6 months (California on my sailboat). It's pretty terrific. It's a real game changer. btw the minimal packing dimensions of the stowed Dishy (without the base) are 513mm(20.2" )x 303mm (1.9")" x ~ 8.5" high (end of the pipe stub). This should just fit in a maximum suitcase for airline travel. And it seems pretty robust. (The pipe dishy connection is very tough.) I think all the dedicated bags and boxes sold for Starlink are much too big and too expensive. Save your money.

Well explained rationale for the best use for starlink. I personally would also love to have one for the exact same reasons you mentioned if I have that kind of disposable income. It can serve both as your primary internet and a backup when the lines go bad. You can carry it practically anywhere like camping or going to places far from the city and or like you mentioned going to places affected by disaster. Only question is how consistent the connection is in every weather. Would love to see a 6 mo. and 1 yr. revisit on this technology.

I'd be honest and say this is the 2nd video about Starlink I've watched within 2 days ü (the other was an American in Iloilo who has a mobile subcription and instantly got a decent 100+ to 200 mbps on speedtest just like yours). However, it's your insight about Starlink's purpose and usability in the countryside and underserved areas I find interesting. Since the first video and yours, I've wondered why Starlink did not have the option for solar power, given that most areas it is meant to be used in not only have poor to no Internet or cellphone providers but aren't yet electrified. Thoughts? How long did the shipping take to get to the Philippines? And how do you pay subscription? Anyhow, thanks for the share and mentioning the monthly plan in pesos. Cheers and new subscriber here. Stay safe!
@GadgetAddict
@GadgetAddict Год назад
Solar is an option, but you'd just have to set it up yourself. The panels, deep cycle batteries and then the inverter. Or lithium batteries if you can afford it. That's something that I plan to discuss in an upcoming video. I think it took less than 2 weeks to arrive. So it was pretty quick. They just bill your credit or debit card through the website. They issue a receipt from their Philippine registered company.

I'm getting mine hopefully this week. Waited for 2 years and rcv an email from starlink last Tuesday night and ordered the next day. It will be setup in Iloilo as a compliment to the 3 fibers for my callcenter. BTW During payment it gave me an option for roaming. It's an extra $10 bucks. So you really don't have to buy RV plan. I'll know more when I go home to Iloilo this coming April.
