Congratulations, I'm starting an ABSN program in May! Also from a non-science background. :) My dream is also to work in labor and delivery--was it difficult to find a specialized job as a new grad? I'm doing my best to avoid med surg! Also, did night shifts get any easier? Thanks!

Congrats!!! I send you my big wishes as you'll be starting your nursing career :) Q: I'm currently heading towards my last semester where I'll be getting my degree in a non-science major. Before my junior year, I decided to go for pre-PA but realized that nursing seems like the career that would fit me the best. I've been starting the process of applying to ABSN programs and have wondered how did you end up choosing your ABSN program? Were tuition, location, and/or the length of a program possible factors? How do you feel about programs that run for 15 months compared to others that are less than that (like 12 months for example)?

Great questions! I think I answer a lot of them in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FfEciYxzajQ.html. Good luck, you've got this!!

Congrats! And great job :) I am taking my prerequisites now in the hopes of enrolling in an ABSN program in the fall! Did you work as a PCT or CNA while you were doing prerequisites to prepare for the program? I'm struggling right now because I genuinely don't know if I want to work as a CNA before my ABSN program and I'm not sure I will be able to balance a full course load and even a part time job, especially if it's night shift. What is your advice on or the risk/reward of getting experience vs being burned out by a super demanding job while doing school. I worked in an advertising/marketing job before I decided to go back to school too!
@margaretarmen

This was my BIGGEST question going into nursing school. To be a PCT/CNA or to not. I will talk about my thoughts and experience in my upcoming Q&A!

Congratulations Margaret! I hope to start the absn program in May. I saw you got married during the program. I'm engaged but would only think about having a wedding after the program ends, because it's so intense. Can you talk about how you did it? Also, can you talk about your timeline now, when you are taking the nclex, when you are due to start the job, if you are having any time off, etc. Finally, how many interviews did you go on and how were they?

Congrats! 🎉🥳 Did u have transferable credits when you started the program or does the 15 months include taking pre reqs?
@margaretarmen
@margaretarmen 2 года назад
Thank you!! Great question - the 15 months did not include my prereqs. I had some transferable credits but I also had to take some classes before I could start my accelerated program. All in it was about 2.5yrs. I did take some time off in there and I prob could have gotten those prereq classes done a little faster in retrospect -- it took me about a year but I gave myself a lot of time. Hope that makes sense!

Hi Margaret! Thank you for offering a Q&A, I’m a sophomore in college, I’m majoring in public health and I realized that I wanted to become a nurse last year. My school recommended I graduate with a bachelors first as a back up plan and then go into an accelerated BSN. I wanted to ask if you think the time you take the prerequisites and getting into nursing school matters? I’ve already taken A&P1 but not A&P 2 and other science prerequisites. Do you think it is okay for me to take them early a couple of years before even taking the entrance exams for Nursing school or do you think I will be okay? I’m also worried about the financial aspect of an ABSN. :(( I’m getting through my bachelors right now because of government aid and I’m afraid I won’t be able to afford an ABSN. did you take out loans or do you have any tips for people like me?
@margaretarmen
@margaretarmen 2 года назад
Hi! In my experience nursing schools generally accept courses that have been completed in something like that last 10 years - but that is program specific. In general, I think you would be fine to have some years between taking a prereq and starting nursing school but you would need to check with the programs you're interested in. I will talk a little bit about financial aid/affording nursing school in my next video but I'm afraid I don't have a lot of great advice on that subject. Everyone's circumstances are so different. However, I do know that there are a TON of great scholarship opportunities for nursing students that you could look into. Hope this helps!

I may or may not have a happy tear for you being done. Congrats! You'll smash that NCLEX. I start my 16 month ABSN program next month and your videos have helped me mentally prepare for what I signed up for haha. I am coming from a food service background so I am definitely nervous since a lot of my classmates are LPNs...But was it difficult getting a specialized job as a new grad? Is it through a new grad program?

Hi Margaret, May I know the average cost of studying accelerated nursing degree in usa? I’m looking for cheaper colleges (community colleges?) with any scholarship; I am 39 years old, Canadian citizen, pursued masters in Biotechnology and Masters in Public health in Canada and have been working in clinical trials for more than 11 years but I am always fascinated about nursing; if you could let me know some community colleges in US that would offer accelerated bachelor nursing be great help!

Congratulations on finishing nursing school, It’s quite the accomplishment! What are your thoughts about starting nursing school and your career during Covid? I’ve been a nurse for many years and hoping for some insight in how to help new nurses succeed.

Congratulations!!! ❤ John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus Christ, the Son of God, loves you. He was crucified on a cross to atone for our sin. He lived a sinless life, and didn’t deserve to die. He took our place, and payed our debt for us. He rose from the dead on the third day after being crucified so that we too may rise one day. If you place your faith in Him, He will forgive your sins. 🌷💕 Invite Him into your heart, if you don’t know Him already. Confess your sins to Him, repent of them, ask Him to change your heart, and lead you. God bless you!
