I really like this iteration of soldier a lot more than the canonical one, like you can still see the original stubborn and reckless soldier in there but you can also see a really creative and tactical soldier who’s able to deal with critical situations a whole lot better. It’s almost a glimpse of what soldier would have been like if it weren’t for his lead poisoning or something like that.
i honestly think this soldier can still be considered canonical to the one in tf2. He's just older and with all the stuff that has happened to him can't keep up the denial that sustained him for so long. My man is just so damn tired.
soldier got flanderized really hard because of how hilarious he can be, and the smarts went more to demoman, who also gets flanderized by just being really drunk
This level of quality hasn't been seen in a while, though I will say that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was incredible as well (the only movie I've enjoyed in a couple years aside from this) Its insane how big brand movies are producing terrible or mediocre movies. We physically have to buy garbage, yet this movie is not only a masterpiece (my opinion) but its completely free.
Only residents of Teufort who drink the water of this place have lead poisoning. Mercenaries drink only bottled water, which does not contain lead. So I would call it "the timeline where the Soldier was really a military soldier". In the canon, he was never a real soldier, he was rejected from every branch of the U.S. military. He flew to Europe himself, got to Poland, killed those whom he considered Nazis and awarded himself medals. Fortunately, his rampage ended immediately upon hearing about the end of the war in 1949
I love how Emesis blue didnt show Tf2 as some sort of funny shooter game. They portrayed it as a horrifying war, that will leave people scarred for life. You dont blow someone to pieces a dozen times and just laugh.
The first time you do it, you’re horrified. The third time you do it, you’re unsettled. The sixth time you do it, you’re stone-faced. The twelfth time, you’re laughing.
tf even happened to him did he hallucinate the laboratory as a bar? i mean ig he was one arm bleeding out so he prob wasnt thinkin straight but damn he rlly stayed there till he froze to death...oof
@@toophoot2757 I see it more as he was already very close to dying, he had been bleeding out for a while at least, it doesnt seem like the wound on his arm was ever treated, so i just guess that he was slowly bleeding out, so he was already hallucinating when entering the lab, and died shortly after entering, thats why he was recieved by Dell so quickly, he was already dead when they were talking. judging by the ending too i think of Dell like someone who is receiving those who died recently, maybe as a way to introduce them to the "Afterlife" seen at the end
@@toophoot2757 the sign that said laboratory was broken at first and only the b, a, and r letters were illuminated, so demo being demo immediately followed his instincts lol.
Me too. He was a good character and a good ally, and he went down after fighting the good fight. Truly a shame he couldn't be saved, but even in death, he saved Soldier.
I was never a fan of horror films, at least not modern ones. But this, this is a whole different level of horror than I’m used to seeing nowadays. I prefer the stuff like in the 80s, where it was less of “creepy jumpscares good” and more “it just won’t stop coming no matter how many times you beat it down.” Emesis blue hit that oddly well, with most of the monsters they face coming back at some point, the scout, the heavy, the sniper, the Pyro, *they all come back*
What really makes horror movies amazing: 1, they have long, unnerving stares. Just staring at something or at the camera. It feels too real. 2, the action isn't thrown around every spot of the movie. It also has good thrills, and at the end of the scene, you get to calm down before the next thriller scene. 3, they're memorable and have very memorable titles. Most horror movies are just meant to be seen one time, and then after that one time, it just gets boring.
@@EternalDawn some rich dudes made a respawn machine and it goes wrong and the people who are respawned are turned into creature types i guess. I haven't watched it in a while so you'll have to watch it yourself
1:11 "Let him bleed." would result in the Hunter coming back to assault him again later 3:24 He shoots a wounded Blutarch dead, because he's learned from his previous mistake of not finishing the job
If Spy shooted the Sniper, would be Pyro killed the Soldier, because of dangerous threat? That makes sense too, and when he shots the Blutarch, he knows what to do.
@@user-jz6nx1wo8t if soldier killed sniper Spy would shot pyro with gun ( sniper taked ammo ) and spy wouldnt be burned , hurted that much ( propably ) , would be later in fight ( i know he is but only in roullete )
@@Cosmo-enjoyerRight after Spy falls downstairs he reaches for his Revolver. In that short amount of time the Sniper wouldn't have been able to take out the ammo, plus, you can see that the Revolver still has rounds inside so yeah the Sniper did not take the ammo out.
One of the things I like about Emesis Blue is how they used Soldier's helmet. I know Valve used the feature of it covering his eyes for comedic effect, but in this movie, it has an enigmatic appearance. It reminds me a lot of the classic noir detective films which had hard boiled detectives with wide brimmed fedoras obscuring their eyes during moments of contemplation and building tension. It's much the same for Soldier, but his helmet gives him a very...him, uniqueness. A straightforward, if unconventional thinking veteran of a war that probably never was in a horrifying circumstance. They took everything I already loved about Soldier's character and 180'd it in a way that worked better than it had any right to, while still remaining true to lore and personality. That takes a brilliantly creative mind to achieve.
“I see you, you see me.” “How pleasant this feeling.” While present soldier is looking unknowingly at himself and future soldier is looking at his past self with new understanding.
Weird to think Soldier is the last merc standing. I hope Valve takes note of his character in this, its a good interpretation of Soldier and pretty much as I'd expect him to be if he wasn't treated as lead fuelled comic relief.
@Diegordi bonus points in irony for him simply being the 'soldier' the one you would think dies first ends up being the one who lives to the bitter end.
This isn't really Soldier though. It's an adaptation. For example, if the TF2 comics are like, Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes, AKA how the character originally was, then Emesis Blue Soldier is like, Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock or Sherlock Gnomes. It's just a different take on the same character.
Fun fact: i think the part where soldier goes to the broken bridge is a reference to a movie about a guy that made a house out of human corpses, in a scene, he isk in the same place, which is a depiction of the pit of hell, and like soldier, he falls in the pit.
This whole movie was so good! It almost felt like an adaptation of a gritty 80's comic book. Like, I feel like this was adapting the first or second arc of a series that spans over several years of publication.
Yeah, I definitely got some V for Vendetta vibes from the film and oh boy was it good. Emesis Blue is a modern, gamer version of all the classics like Fullmetal Jacket, The Shining, American Psycho, etc. I truly hope it will be remembered as a masterclass in storytelling, just like those movies.
If i remember correctly someone said that the soldier helmet is used in this movie like detective hat in older movie whenever they go into a contemplation or deep thinking That probably give the vibe along with a dozen other things (heckload of references included).
The Spy pulling the trigger on himself instantly and without hesitation is a very powerful moment. Basically, at that point he didn't wanted to live anymore.
Also when they don't heavily rely on jumpscares. That's what Emesis blue was. Zero jumpscares but still creeps you out with the atmosphere of the scenes
The soldier lost the scottish man, his teammate (no he did not lost him, he just got severe burns) And he never gave up, he even lost the all he had, but he never lost the ability to think. I guess soldier is smarter than we tought
What sadder was Spy felt betrayed because he thought Soldier left him in purpose when Soldier really was trying to dodge the bullets but the door locked permanently behind giving him no ability to save his friend.
@@ModeratelyCool To be fair he does kinda say “I did your dirty work” to Archibald. Meaning he obviously didn’t want to do it. He just did it cause it was his job and he didn’t wanna let him down
one of the key elements thats nails it in is the fact that 2fort in this universe was supposed to be demolished years ago, and the interviewer man having to tell soldier not to tell a single soul of the horrors there and the events since the creation of the respawn machine makes you wonder if 2fort was the origin where the discovery of the ability to resurrect the dead and or reconnect consciousness back to the body after being dead, thus the death experiences and paracausal events causing the mental state of the patient to split or go insane, similar to that of sigma after being exposed to a black hole, except for soldier and demoman managing to keep their mental state from detaching well most of it potentially
When you put it like that, I can't imagine what the horrors that the mercs and other test subjects had to go through prior to Emesis Blue and, to an extent, the movie's take on TF2's lore.
3:35 Soldier executing the man responsible for everything and dropping the 1911 After everything soldier has been through, this just hits me in the feels
I'm still amazed by the FACIAL expressions, on a 2007 engine. Especially thoses small reactions, at 1:35 . There's alot of moments where they feel more than alive !
I love that Emesis Blue's Soldier is a real soldier and not the Soldier we know. This one is more sane than ours. So this one didnt drink much of 2fort's water. There are still glimpses of our Soldier when he gets scared by the skeleton display in Medic's office and calls it the "latest victim"
This is really a good move tbh. From the very beginning, I was rooting for this character to live as long as possible, and in the end it turned out that "The character who dying first" was the only survivor of all the main characters...
@@zombine7103 Medic wasnt evil, more so broken, He also had those pills and some kind of mental issue, with a feeling like split personality or insantiy, and the pills make u go werid and stuff, most evil I would say is Spy
i love EMESIS blue. i feel like it should of ended with when he see's his past self from out of the car or that be included somewhere in this awesome edit.
i feel like the song really fits this, not just because of the story but also the aesthetic emesis blue already has this sort of high production value look, whatever you call it, so there aren't any needs for any edits or whatever to butcher the video to make it fit the song. literally just slap the song onto any relevant scene from the film, and that's it. it just works. cool edit btw, i like that we can still hear the sound in the background even if the music is trying to drown it out, makes me imagine poor jane doe is just trying to tune out the horrifying reality of his situation by constantly mentally playing this song on repeat in his head
This movie had me changing my thoughts on who was the main character, but once soldier became alone (right before he see frozen demo man), he instantly became the main character in my mind till the end.
@@fw555g Medic COULD carry the whole match. Only if the team is organized enough tho. Medics often choose to uber the gibus heavy that dies to a sentry 2 miliseconds after the uber is finished and it ends up doing nothing. Casual mode players are very unorganized so for me I usually use the Quick-Fix because it's the fastest spread healing Medigun.
This soldier is truly tortured, we see this as he strays to alcoholism, smoking, near self termination, literally going through hell and back, and we can see this to at the end when he kills Blutarch as he has dead eyes and just wants to get it over with, then there is also the clear PTSD he has from the war (not sure which one) he fought as he watched his comrades die and now it is almost like he is reliving these moments again as we can see when he kills the monstrous Scout monster by piercing it in the head we see in the flashback to the war that the Scout dying in his arms had been shot in the head.
Emesis blue is the best SFM animation I've ever seen. Not only it has a great story, effort, and animation, but it's almost 2 hours longs, with all of that. I see it as an amazing movie.
i've never seen anyone talk about this, but when soldier stabs that scout in the head and pushes him down, i think its in his hallucination where the scout gets shot in the head and falls from the ladder, and the scout transforms into the monster scout in the hallucination as well.
I dont know how but this animation changed my gamplay The chages: -Fear of death more (In game) because The respawn machine -Always head shot soliders and heavies as sniper -Playing medic more often In 2fort -Not camping In intel room as engineer -Not laughting when A teammate die Or kill bind -Playing solider a lot more -Finishing A job (kill) -Dont be friendly unless somone is -Less frustration with spies -A lot of frasturation when taking medication In real life -more percise as demo(I think) -Not caring for The intel -Not picking scout
Fortress films outdid themselves, i've always been watching and replaying spy's disguise everytime. Makes me wonder if they're somehow able to keep up the good work they did back 4 years ago.
I feel this video was able to finally make me realize that soldier was the only who didn't change over the course of the story compared to the doctor and the spy who both became insane in their own ways.
@@Dhruvvrma9224it probably got tore off by one of the Conagher Brothers or one of the zombies around the base tore it off, most likely probably one of the conagher’s since demo was trapped in a cage when soldier found him
i love the whole movie as i watch with soldier uncovering and learning the messed up backstory for the merc’s and the respawn machine. i gotta say the twists and turns were a huge step up. i seriously hope there will be more movies like this. and yes emesis blue is a movie it’s long it has plot characters structure and mystery. and im so glad this movies getting the attention it’s deserved.
Absolutely in love with this edit. Even though I have listened to this song many times before, it sounds perfectly fitting and fresh here. Thank you very much 😔💙
The horror didnt come from the jumpscares, but the realization of certain events unfolding right in front of our very eyes.. the slaughterhouse was in some way a purgatory in my opinion. All being tested in varying Cryptic ways as the story progressed.. it was one of my 1st tf videos ive got to see in a longggg time, never did get to ply th3 game growin up but man is this a passion project if i ever seen it.. i was fully hooked
my favorite lines are all from the soldier. "How did you know he wasn't gonna shot you in the head" "I didn't." "Looks like ray charles traded their piano for an m40" "It's the voice of god you son of a bitch, and i'm coming for you!"
I always loved psychological genre of things, especially in the horror franchise nowadays. Horror is so predictable but psychological stuff always gets in your head, its completely unpredictable, and is often well written with a compelling story
I swear, Emesis Blue deserves to be in theatres, its probably the best TF2 SFM I have seen, alongside The Rise of the Epic Blu Scout, Like White on Spy, The Fight for Sawmill, Meet the Rabid Heavy Taming Engineer, and End of the Line.
