Unfortunately, I will politely disagree. The MC starts out in the in the disappointment of having failed some test. The vast majority of the movie is spent proving why he deserved to fail. He's constantly freaking out or in an emotional fit. He simply isn't ready for his Ranger job, and he doesn't prove to be on his way to be getting better. And that's without his back story.

They should have made Jaden less whiney and bitchy so this moment actually felt real. He was so unbelievably irritating that by this point you wanted him to get mauled by the Ursa
