Ever worry your last boss is going to ruin your chance of ever getting hired again?

Here is what the law says...
According to the law your former employer can pretty much say whatever he or she wants.
Uh oh. Right?
BUT..
The surprising answer is that most human resources departments, employers, companies, etc.. don't.
Because they don't want to say something which may cause you to lose your new job - opening them up to getting sued for interfering with your employment status.
Most companies will limit the info to just the barest of facts to avoid liability. What your rate of pay was, dates of employment, etc.
What about if you were involved in suing your former boss?
What options are there to legally prevent them from sinking your chances of finding new employment..
Well.. That's something that we work to include in the settlement agreement. A clause that they cannot disparage you to future employers.
HARD TRUTH is - some people will still violate this restriction and bad mouth you. Human nature and all that.
But doing so opens them up to litigation again, so smart companies and employers won't.

I sued my ex employer (GE Aviation... the big boys) 6 years ago for sexual harassment and retaliation. It was settled out of court but I feel that it is following me. I get interviews and they are excited about my qualifications, even one said I've definitely got the job, but when it comes to background checks etc., I get a letter stating they don't want me. This happens over and over and over again and I'm tired. How do I prove my ex employer is retaliating, when the companies I interview for won't disclose why they all of a sudden don't want me? My lawsuit was not frivolous at the least, and I only got damages which most of the money went to lawyers and taxes. Money is gone and I'm treated the same way as a felon... I think felons have an easier time finding work than me!

I worked in a Town, the supervisor was calling my prospective employers and telling them to not hire me. This resulted in me losing out on work for months and having to find work in another State. My attorney only sent them a message to stop this behavior. She did not mention to me that I could sue them for this. I have suffered a lot due to these people and have lost on thousands of dollars during the pandemic. I can't believe they can get away with this.

Why am I having such a hard time getting my past evaluations from an old employer? They were good!! And they're my records right?? I literally can NOT get them. I tried so hard!!!!
