After War Gundam X - Wing's Hotter Cousin - Spoiler Free Anime Review  

Loved Gundam X such an underrated show, shame it didn't get to complete its full run.

Bandai's action of not allowing After War Gundam X to air on Toonami is the single reason why the Gundam franchise completely failed in the West. The show had absolutely everything to be massive hit that could have rivalled the popularity of Wing; from the great cast of characters, intriguing and well told story, similar in design mobile suits to that of Wing, exciting action and the superior quality of animation. It could have also served as a great gateway for the Universal Century from its mentioning of Newtypes and horrors of War. There was absolutely no Gundam show at the time that could have filled this slot better, not even G Gundam which would have instantly divided the franchise from its drastically different approach. The fact that Bandai did not do this is the sole reason as to why Gundam is unpopular, misunderstood and horribly obscure culturally.

It's a shame about this one getting axed too early. I would have liked an extended space arc

Gundam X was one of the first Gundam TV series I ever watched (fan-subbed online back before the North American DVD/Blu-Ray releases). It was also the first Gundam TV series I bought on Blu-Ray when I learned that Gundam Blu-Rays were being released in North America. It remains one of my favorite Gundam TV series next to the original 0079 MSG and Turn A.

Compared to other Gundam stories, After War Gundam X is a light-hearted story compared, but the story does illustrate what war is all about through its characters,' histories and the dialogue of the characters. Garrod Ran's character shines when other characters help him or when he interacts with other character, or when other characters interact with him. Tiffa Adill is a reserved yet very optimistic person who believes in the best of people. Without her, Garrod would not have survived on many occasions because of her Newtype ability. I appreciate how Garrod’s and Tiffa’s relationship developed. Jamile Neate is understandably adamant on ensuring that Newtypes no longer need to suffer from being used as weapons. His one-track mind does not mean that he is close-minded because he was able to change his views on Newtypes when provided with further explanation. I enjoyed pretty much everything about Roybea Roy and Witz Su who is cares for people even if it doesn’t seem like it to other people, even more so with his friends and family. They’re willing to do just about anything to protect those that they want to protect even if their opinions don't line up with what they needed to do and do . The conclusion felt rushed because of how the D.O.M.E basically told them what to do and because the final showdown wasn’t set up enough. After War Gundam X is something that I'd like to watch again because I would appreciate the dragged out and rushed episodes a little more than I did upon my first watch.

I'm a fan of After War Gundam X for over 20 years since it has been shown in my country. It would have been different if Lucille Liliant chose to wake up from suspended animation so she and Jamil Neate could be together.

I remember watching the first few episodes and not thinking much of it, but thanks to this video I now realize that I should definitely go back and given it another chance.

I really need to catch up on my Gundam stuff. I'm a fan of the series but sometimes it seems like there's no ideal attack point other than to just jump in.

Hmm an Arabic name in a Japanese anime that's interesting, my father wanted to name me Jamil after his father which is a tradition where I'm from but my mother didn't like the name for some reason. Jamil means beautiful btw.

After War Gundam X is good and Jamil is my favorite character from that show,and I like it's alternative retelling of the original mobile suit Gundam 0079.

Funny how you upload this, I am watching the movie trilogy of the original series right now. I'll give this show a look, wasn't a big fan of Gundam Wing when I first watched, it's been a while though. I don't even think I watched a Gundam anime in 2 years either since the Origin. I enjoyed that.

Gundam X's cancelation had more to do with the fact that Gundam had been airing on a weekly basis for 4 years at that point. Swap X with Wing and you likely would've seen Wing get cut short instead. X was also competing with Evangelion when it came out, so of course that would end up sucking a lot of attention away from Gundam X.

The best Gundam series, atleast for me. Its characters are the best written, it has the best pacing in a Gundam show, and it has the best main Gundams. GX and Double X will always be the superior BIG cannon suit.

This is the first gundam anime I have ever watch

機動新世紀ガンダムＸ (Kidou Shin Seiki Gandamu Ekkusu/Mobile New Century Gundam X) is the only non-UC Gundam series that includes NewTypes. Every other non-UC series has its equivalent but they aren't called New Types. The series takes place in the After War timeline. This series definitely deserved a few more episodes. The fact that this is only 39 episodes is a bit disappointing. There's 3 manga series that I would suggest from After War Gundam X's universe: 01. After War Gundam X (3 volumes) 02. After War Gundam X NEXT PROLOGUE (1 volume) 03. After War Gundam X: Under the Moonlight (4 volumes) You definitely will get a more complete sense with these 3 manga series compared to the anime. But the anime itself is worth watching. On a related note, I'm a bit annoyed that Bandai has yet to make a Master Grade model kit for the GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider. So far they've made a Master Grade model kit for the GX-9900 Gundam X, GX-9900 Gundam X (Unit 3), and GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X. I guess they could also make: - GX-9900 Gundam X (Kai Custom) - GX-9900 Gundam X (Rick Aller Custom) - GS-9900 G-Falcon

If this show was released after Wing in the West in cartoon network, then this franchise would have had a better chance of remaining popular, cause it's completely dead as of now in the West. I don't think anything can help it regain popularity again...

ALSO ALSO, I think your point about the satellite cannon was just wrong. It works, because it's a horrifying reminder of the day the world ended - enough to give Jamil tremors just from seeing if the moon is out. You make it sound like the cannon is used and abused as the solution to every problem, but before Garrod switches to the Double X he only ever uses the Satellite Cannon once (and calls the microwave down twice)

Just because you mentioned it Turn A was absolutely boring. Not sorry.
