Andre Agassi rolls back the years against James Blake at the 2005 US Open. #Shorts Click here to subscribe: / usta Twitter: / usta Facebook: / usta Instagram: / usta Website: www.usta.com
Agassi was an artist that needed to be a grinder. However for my money when he was eyes inside the lines top 2 best pure ball strikers of all time. Modern tennis exists because of him.
Agassi was an all-time great. Incredible ball striker, and one of the two greatest returns of serves in history along with Djokovic. The only one that really had his number, even when Agassi was in his prime, was of course Sampras, who happens to be the greatest American tennis player who's ever lived.
His timing was just something out of this planet really, he used to hit ball so clean and so hard with minimal effort, but ofc not all of this was talent, he could really hit the ball at his chosen pace.
How the heck is that unbelievable? Blake hit the approach right back deep into his backhand strike zone. Like the man is 30 something years old here. Hit it short and challenge him to move forward. Shot selection makes all the difference. I remember people saying this is a match Blake should’ve won and I wondered how they ever thought an obvious head case was going to beat a seasoned problem solver. Blake could’ve been 6-5 40-0 in the final set and I’d still feel good with all my money on Agassi.
This was during one of the most important moments in the match. Agassi won this 2005 quarterfinal 4-6 4-6 7-6 7-6 7-6 and this was in the final set towards the end. One of the best matches EVER
It was too much fun watching agassi play specially when he at his best and between all theses tennis players I have watched so far I put agassi after Djokovic Federer and Nadal as a fourth best tennis player of all times
@@shanelawson5072 ya Sampras was one of the goat for sure but if u have read my comment I said my favorite players and the reason why Sampras isn't my favorite player is because I like base line players not the players with the big serve which is so boring to watch
Agassi was truly awesome. I loved the way he played with such INTENSITY. HE USED TO TRAIN BY RUNNING UP HILLS BACKWARDS. I've NEVER heard of anyone else doing that. Which is not to say that there wasn't. Maybe there was. But, he was the first person that I heard of who did.
Imagine Agassi playing with todays string tech. The man played with Problend. Imagine him with a poly that produced pop and spin. That guy would love Hyper G strings. Best ball striker to ever play. He would have mixed in well with Novak, fed, and rafa. Would have loved to see a healthy Agassi hit backhands with Stan Warrenka. Amazing people doing amazing things
He wrote about this exact point in his autobiography, saying something like “Blake didn’t change his grip from continental, giving me a chance to hit the winner.”
Still 2day I believe Andre would have won USO 2005 if Blake didn't play d best match of his career, forcing him give everything he got 2 win. That memorable qf is 1 of best match in tennis history tho.
After Johnie Mac, Agassi became my hero. Now there are no American hero to wrest int'l tennis back from Fed, Nadal and Djokavich. Once Sampras and Agassi and Courier all retired, we fell off the map. Thank goodness for Serena and Venus, American heroes
Blake had amazing skills too. Inconsistencies made him fall short of real success. Agassi had tendency to tank when down 2 service breaks. Often unable to recover so basically threw the match. I do miss the good ol days though. It was still interesting and not cluttered with screams and grunts like today. These guys weren't really grantees by habit, they are genuinely fatigued and reaching for that extra reserved effort.
Andre gets his daps but Jamie should have put this one away. This is why I love Jamies game and was a HUGE fane but he was just a hair short of the upper echelon.

Stop talking about things, that you truly know nothing about, and that is obvious by that statement you made. No one can win all 4 Grand Slams, without having a putaway shot/weapon 😊. I guess you just wanted to get a rise out of someone. He was older here, you should have seen him win he was younger, but then again you might not understand what you were witnessing 😊
@@darrylperry648 Agassi was, at best, a second-tier player. He struggled to achieve his limited success - because he did not have the abilities to hit with the greats. You, whoverer you are, know nothing about progessional tennis and ought to button it up - stupidity is best corrected before it is exposed!
Agassi hit our authorize are on the rise better than any player of all time as return of serve was better than Connors and if he had a better mobility he would’ve been able to fight Sampras a little bit better losing so many finals almost by the same score in the fourth set and then losing one that quarterfinal match 767676 shows that the difference between the two was mental and it came down to Sanford‘s to serve in the ad court he just didn’t lose a point on that side of the court when ot as a big point. Had hebeen 6’3 he wouldv had 26 slam yitkev
