Suga was originally signed as a producer but was later convinced by Bang Si Hyuk (Former Big Hit CEO and present Hybe Chairman) to join the newly created "hiphop" group, BTS.

Suga is our genius producer and loves to use unusual sounds and especially Korean classical instruments. You guys need to hear him totally go off in AgustD AgustD (the blonde AgustD that is braggadocious who he slays here), the production in it is also amazing. Both his mixtapes blow me away.

When it comes to their solo projects, they do much of it themselves. If there are guests artists or producers etc they had to organize it and direct it. They can't remove like PDogg from a group project to help but he can on his free time. Suga had been producing, writing and recording a lot of this while they were doing the Love Yourself Speak Yourself tour (he travels with equipment ALWAYS) but because of covid he could take more time to finish it off.

The first time I listened to First Love, I had to turn it off because it just killed me. I still haven't been able to finish listening to it. One day, when I'm in the mood to cry my eyes out, I might work up the courage to finish this song. I think that goes towards showing what an amazing storyteller Suga is and how well he conveys emotions in his music.

Loving your excitement over this masterpiece. There is a whole video on BangtanTV YT channel, where Yoongi talks about process of writing his D-2 and Daechwitta video recording particularly, a truly insightful stuff. He wrote the song and then put his foot down when they started to negotiate the MV script. He changed MV producer´s mind ( the video was supposed to be totally different), persuaded him to rent this historical place, had Jungkook and Jin participate in it ( due to some time constrains Kook had to decline original plan of him sitting on top of hood of Yoongi´s car and did the fighting scene with Jin instead "only", lol). The scar on Yoongi´s face was his idea too... the man had a vision and he made sure it materialized the way he wanted it to be .... mind you, the whole project was handed over to Army as a FREE gift, that´s the coolest bit of it all.

Daechwita is both written and produced by Agust D and EL CAPITXN. This is the only song on D-2 mixtape that sounds this way... D-2 has more of an indie-rock vibe, some trap too. D-2 is very melancholic, introspective and self-aware of its hurt... It has a mature self-understanding. Agust D mixtape was all burning anger, overflowing pain, and all-consuming greed/resentment.

his solo work is amazing-- he can go really hard but also is very introspective, philosophical and emotional on other tracks. He's a great storyteller and his producing skills are top notch. Definitely would love to see you react to more Agust D.

Suga always amazes us when creating and producing songs, he is a genius. He said on one of their Run BTS episode that he can produce and write songs every single day...and he got a lot of songs on his list unreleased. 😉😉😉

I never listen to rap with my Daughter, I didn’t like the foul language and it is degrading to Women. Now, 20 years later I love the Cyphers and Daechwita! Do I listen to it all the time? Tap is not my favorite but, Suga’s cadence is so good in this. Live watching your guest, hope he joins you again. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

What you said about relating to Suga because of his past mental health issues. I feel that. It's the same for me. I'm still struggling with the same things he struggled with (check out his song 'The Last', you won't regret it) and he's a huge inspiration to me. He's an example of that it does get better. Thanks to him, I'm not giving up. I look up to him so much. That's not the only reason why he's one of my biases, but it definitely plays a part in it. He's an amazing person.

*As a producer, you will always find suga's work interesting. He ain't called a genius producer for nothing. I don't even have to mention anything about his rapping as you can witness already. React to so far away agust d (experience all his music spectrum.). He is a true musician, born to make music :) Suga is what I called a natural rapper, he mah fav kpop rapper for a reason. He came to make this raw music, it will become more evident when you explore his other stuff. Btw you will notice that whenever he raps in bts songs, he always switch up his flows or add nuances. He gives 100% to whatever small amount of time he gets. Music is for him and one example is first love (you must react to this one)*

Honestly Daechwita's bridge Yoongi's rap speed is amazing but this isn't even the fastest he could rap. His verse in BTS's I'm Fine is legendary to this day. Like boy that speed! Also since you have seen Daechwita, search for BTS Muster Daechwita performance live. It's a must watch!😉😉😉

By the way, I really hope you guys do the cypher series. There are such interesting sounds in each of them and you can see their journey over several years from rappers defending their right to the genre in Cypher 1 through to Cypher 4 where they come into their own and realize that haters can't hurt them. You can really hear them grow. Also, RM's 'Joke' has amazing sounds, just this grungy, filthy thing that's so fascinating to listen to. The Cypher series is done by the rap line alone.

Saying "bts stuff is polished, this is what they really enjoy" is unfair after having listened to so little tbh ☹ bts and Suga specifically are too involved in the production/writing to say that. Yes, rapline solo mixtapes are probably more gritty sometimes BUT so are many bts tracks. And they are all multifaceted people, for example the song Telepathy from the BE album is written and produced by Suga and he considers it one of his best songs, but it's nothing like Daechwita. So please don't make hasty conclusions, you have seen nothing yet😉

Yeah checking out their solo songs is when I become convinced this group has ascended to it's own class (way above the rest). Because it's not even fair to have 7 of them VS one or duo of other artists. I mean I like Silk Sonic but they need to add like Mike Shinoda, Ed Sherran, Shawn Mendes and Chris Martin to have game on BTS(imo assuming they can work in harmony).

Suga is very open and encourages Army to talk about mental health. I think it was on a Vlive that he shared that he believes everyone has some kind of mental struggle that one has to deal with at one point in their life, whether it be from school, work, divorce or internal issues. Thank you for sharing our struggles. Much of Suga's music deals with his dark side and persona. :) Both should reaction to Daechwita explained by Korean. The lyrics filled with duality and history... Also... Suga was an underground SPEED rapper in S. Korea... one of the best and fastest. It took years for him to learn his craft. Suga and RM are known to be among the top 10 best rappers in S. Korea.

I think the high pitch whining sound is taepyeongso or haotong (copper pipe), the other that's like cymbal is kkwaeng-gwali. Also addition to Daechwita means King is coming (it's king's marching band) announcements to tell everybody.

The instruments you hear are the same used in the actual daechwita instrumentations. The wind instrument is called a taepyeongso. He also used the jing (gong), jabara (cymbals), & yonggo (drum). I think there was also a little nabal (brass horn) in there too. All of these are the traditional Korean instruments used to play daechwita. Also would like to mention that as "military" music it mostly would be played BY the military to announce the arrival of the King. Which plays into the lyrics & video very much.

Agust D was my first foray into Korean rap, because of BTS. When this MV dropped I was in awe! Such a production! His cadence and the cinematographic(?) aspects of this “mini-movie” dragged me in…and I’m way to old to be getting into Rap music. I also want to thank you for relating to Suga’s mental health issues…I do too, anxiety and depression are silent illnesses that effect many people across the world. It’s nice that a Superstar talks about their issues publicly …all BTS Members have discussed their issues with depression and anxiety, especially during the pandemic. I guess that’s why ARMY supports them so much…they seem to be genuine and approachable and ARMY has watched them grow from awkward teenagers into adults. Check out the behind the scenes on all their MV…there is a running storyline through the OMVs for each era or chapter in their music. New chapter coming up in 2022. Thanks for your insight!

Just want to say, it’s not only their older songs where they showcase their skills as rappers.. you just have to actually listen to their full albums. They definitely for the most part featured the rapping more prominently in a lot of their older songs because they were a bit more firmly rooted in hip hop, but just because the vocals are a bit more prominent now and they’ve expanded the amount of genres they play with doesn’t mean that they don’t still have loads of songs where the raps are amazing 😭 I just really hate that generalized “look at their older songs if you want to hear the rap line” cause they literally released ugh and dis-ease just last year 😕🥲

Agust D is just Daegu Town Suga backwards :) The trumpet like sound is from a nabal which is the traditional trumpet used in traditional daechwita.

The palace in town were, as you said, built for kdramas. However in and around Seoul there are several actual palaces which actually look very much the same. BTW, you may already know this, but "Agust D", is derived from the initials DT, short for his birthplace, Daegu Town, and "Suga" spelled backwards.

Music aside, Lucas looks so much like an old friend of mine from high school, including the dimples inside his dimples. When he talked about driving around in the pimped out lime green Civic blasting music it brought the memory of my old friend back to me so much harder. It's been said already but Yoongi was originally a producer and to add onto that it was actually Joonie who was brought in to start the makings of what was intended to be a hip hop originally (but eventually became BTS) but yes they were both underground rappers 💜 And you've probably learnt by now (or I hope will find out soon if not yet) but the comment about Yoongi not shining in BTS isn't accurate, which sure I get where he's coming from having only heard a few songs with less space for rapping, but BTS do also have rap focused songs still that allows the rap line to shine too. Edit : And I unpause right into to you saying the last part of what I was essentially x') Ahhh... I love when people are genuinely so enamoured by our boys talent, Yoongis fast rap often surprises people into it 💜 it makes me proud 💜

The set (Yongin Daejanggeum Park) they filmed this is open for visitors and there's campsite right next to it. My family visited and was like, yeah, so this is the place! And there are so many filming sets you can visit all over the country.

I really hate it when people call BTS a boyband, but that's just so not true. People ridicule them for being "little girls" and the irony is BTS turns it around on them by dissing them back, especially through their rap line. The 2 of you gets it - these guys are artists. If you tell me I would be obsessed with K-Pop and boy bands one year ago, I would be laughing. I'm laughing now but at how ridiculously wrong I was about BTS - I love these guys because they are just really awesome and talented artists and musicians. Period.

Wee search..Although daechwita is mainly played with wind and percussion instruments, traditional wind instruments like the nabal나발, or brass horn, and the nagak나각, or seashell horn, can only play a single note, and cannot play melodies.

Actually, RM (Runch Randa was his underground name) was signed first because he impressed the CEO so much with his rapping skills and lyricism, and his persona, he signed him to be the leader of a Rap/Hip Hop Group, and there were 4 or so rappers before SUGA (Gloss was his underground name) even signed in 2011. The other rappers ended up not sticking with Big Hite and Suga did the second audition. SUGA was initially signed as a rapper/producer, and then ended up being in BTS. Then it changed to an IDOL group. J Hope had zero rapping ability but picked it up fast and became really good at it. His talent was street dance/Hip Hop/B-boy.

it’s funny that you were imaging jonas bros rapping, cos this is one of my main gripes with a lot of idol music. they ruin so many songs by shoe horning in raps and even if they’re not terrible you can just feel a difference.
