Ahmed Best Opens up About the Jar Jar Binks Backlash 

Sadly I do believe that some who direct their hate at Jah Jah are aware of the human inside and some of that hate is directly/indirectly right at him, after all he did get personally affected by the comments from those simple-folk.

You can hate human beings that's OK. What is wrong in all this is that there was no reason for all the hatred, he did what he was meant to (just like the "poorly written lines" christensen had to read)

He was just saying that the kids liked him, the adults didn't. He never said the character was always intended only for children.

+roman martinez Well, to be fair, your average kid should be able to read an article about Star Wars. That being said, even a character aimed at children can and should appeal to adults. Any Pixar movie is proof of that. If a character is flat out not meant to be liked by adults, like you say, then the children he is aimed at won't even like him once they become adults. If a movie is going to stand the test of time, then a character can't age that poorly.

Rice That role in Men in black 2 wasn't the right fit for him I agree, but star wars seems right up his alley remember he worked with Lucas in 86 on captain EO, he did Thriller, Ghosts etc. A lot of fantasy stuff. Unfortunately, the phantom menace was released in 1999 so MJ only had 1 album left in him, a damn shame because he lived another 10 years.

Bill XCIII leave me alone was a huge European hit in 89 and was never released in the US and Ghosts was released in 97, during MJ's late career rut as far as the US goes but again a big European hit. I like those performances from him but for whatever reason his performance in mib2 felt forced and this is coming from (I'm sure you can tell) a big fan.

The_Angry_Raccoon I am not a huge fan of Jar Jar but the actor seems like a really cool dude. Even good actors like Natlie Portman gave pretty meh preformances during the prequels which leads me to belive poor direction and dialogue is the main reason the prequels were not quite as good as the originals.

jar jar was supposed to be a sith. but because people complained about him they introduced count dooku and ditched the original plot.

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, the Queen, and Anakin all didn't like the "pathetic life form" known as Jar-Jar, and the feeling looked mutual. So why should we?

No, not a badass, but someone the other characters have an emotional connection to, like Anakin befriending him, or the Jedi teaching him to do some Falun Gong exercises to control himself, while Padme gives him speaking lessons. Then he reciprocates by showing concern for Anakin, maybe having a talk about leaving home. But there was no connection. He's as Obi-Wan says "another pathetic lifeform." It's like they've taken a drunk aboard who can't walk and talk properly, but his drunkenness ends up being comic as he fights the droid army.

I can confirm that Ahmed is not a gungan! He's a human man.

And here I was thinking George brought in actors from an actual alien species to film the prequels. Next thing I know, you're gonna be telling me Wookies aren't real

+bycicle_theif i'm with you. i first saw the Phantom Menace when i was 13 and like you, i loved it and still like it to this day. i can relate to what you're saying because i frequently defend the prequels online and get huge amounts of hate for doing so. as far as Jar Jar goes, i'm neutral on him. i never found him that annoying although he is pretty useless. and i completely agree with you about 3PO. he's annoying in every movie but i've never heard anyone say anything even remotely critical about him in all the years i've been a Star Wars fan. and i do think that whether or not you experience these movies as a kid plays a big role in whether or not you enjoy them. i have nieces and nephews who saw the prequels when they were all under the age of 10 and they all loved them.

C3PO was a cowardly selfish prick, who told the Jawas where R2D2 was going so they could set a trap for him. He has a couple moments where he cares about "Master Luke" and Artoo, and in _The Empire Strikes Back_ after saying they should surrender to the Empire, when he comes back on after getting shot, he wants to warn the others of stormtroopers. I was a little rough with his action figure as a kid because I didn't like him much. I don't recall any moments in _The Phantom Menace_ where people care about Anakin or Jar-Jar or where Jar-Jar cares about anyone but himself.
