This is part two of my latest interview with Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best. In this final installment Ahmed takes on some fan questions and addresses the Darth Jar Jar theory for the first time ever in interview. It's a world exclusive! Ahmed also imagines what Jar Jar would sound like as a sith lord by producing a truly evil vocal performance…you won’t dare to hate on him ever again after seeing this!

This is the story of one nerds quest to find the forgotten stars of Star Wars! I'm Jamie Stangroom, and as excited as I was when I saw the first cast photo for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force Awakens, I couldn't help but think that there was something missing. Lots of something. Someones. I felt nostalgic joy seeing Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, but what about Logrey the Ewok? Greedo? What about the Gonk droid?! So I decided to go and find them. I was prepared to go to the ends of the earth and maybe even Wales in my journey to find the actors the franchise forgot. JJ Abrams may have overlooked them, but I won't!
And now I invite you to join me in video form here on youtube. Each episode will see me track down an unsung hero of Star Wars, find out how the movie's success changed their lives, and see if they've still got what it takes by making an audition tape with them to show Disney what their missing out on!

I can imagine a scene where Jar Jar reveals himself to be a sith, he starts saying evil lines with that foolish voice, but then smoothly changing it to the dark one and dropping the mesa and usa parts. That would've been such a great turn for the character.

+marcelo78 If you think about Star Wars names, they're not very subtle. They almost always reference something or describe some aspect of the character, especially with Sith names. Jar Jar would literally mean to "jar"(shake up, disturb, surprise and shock) twice. Jar the Jedi when it's revealed that the idiot Gungan they've had tagging along with them the entire time is really the genius Sith Lord pulling the strings. And jar the audience when it's revealed the "annoying" and "stupid" character they've developed such hatred for is actually one of the most vile, manipulative and evil Sith in the Star Wars Universe.

Ironic enough, if Lucas had the courage to go ahead with his initial idea, he could have saved the prequels, even from some hardcore fans of first Star Wars trilogy. I mean, the evidence in Episode I is there. The gestures are there! This could have been one of the major plot twists and mind blown things known in the movie industry. All that wasted because Lucas didn't trust his ideas.

It's very clear the people who are making the New Trilogy is aware of the Darth Jar Jar theory, infact in an interview JJ Abrams did state that it is his favorite Fan Theory, guess if people keep talking about it, Darth Jar Jar could still happen

I don't Think it should be made into a Movie... But if it is it'd work well as a obi-wan Movie or trilogy or maybe a series. Obi-wan is the one that could be a fitting hero taking on darth jar jar since they do have a history and it could have made sense as a spin off story not revealing his location to the empire. It'd also redeem the prequels a bit plus redeem jar jar. It doesn't have to be a live action film either it could also be animated though live action would be interesting.

Yes he did say it. He was asked by the interviewer what was his favourite fan theory regarding the new movie, and he clearly stated that it was the Darth Jar Jar one, even tho it has nothing to do with the force awakens.

Thank you for highlighting that very good point. The future knowledge that the character of Jar Jar was going to be hated for years to come, and that knowledge was known beforehand, it seems. That definitely eludes to a character shift, or twist, that was planned to happen, but never did. You know... what everyone calls a REVEAL.

All they needed was a post credits scene of Jar Jar walking into a shadowed room where he changes his entire demeanor to that of a sith lord and talks to a hologram of Sidious saying "Everything is going as planned". That's all they needed to make him go from reviled to insane curiosity.

I really really hope they bring Jar Jar back so he reveals himself. I doubt it will ever happen, but I think it would be amazing. I know people hated Jar Jar, but I think people would not mind seeing the real him now knowing what was really going on.

Think when the Prequels were enough people disliked Jar Jar Binks, i did too i won't lie. But had this revelation come about in the movies when they were being put out at the time? Yes certainly agreed its an incredible twist which should've originally happened. Jar Jar Was the real Phantom Menace (Darth Plagueis) who's abilities were truly beyond Lightsabre duels, which is why Palpatine might still use them on the off chance?, but Jar jar's character as the real villain doesn't do so. His true frightening power lies in; deception, mindgames and manipulations.

As I mentioned somewhere, it would make much more sense if Yoda went after Jar Jar in the Episode III, killed him, and so Palpatine would use it as a betrayal against the Republic, outlawed the Jedi and offered up a Galactic Empire instead of weak Jedi-driven Republic. Obi Wan goes against Palpatine, leaving him scarred, Anakin stands up for his Darth Sidious, ends up on the lava-mountain instead, Jedi flee, Palpatine turns up alive and kicking, ending up as the Emperor.

If the fan backlash against Jar Jar was enough to inhibit the character's development, then perhaps a reverse-backlash for not fleshing out the Darth Jar Jar scenario can bring back that story in future installments (in some form, at least). Mesa say we petition for Darth Jar Jar!!

He wasn't a Sith or Dark Side user. Jar Jar operated on a much higher plane than the Sith and the Jedi. The Sith were merely pawns in whatever circle Jar Jar ran in.

Exactly, the first 3 films were really good, and although lots of fans hate the prequels they had some awesome moments, the phantom menace was clearly designed to be different and slow starting to make the following films really shocking and awesome with jar jar being a sith. But since he had to change it due to "feedback" the following films had drastic changes that made them not as good. It was all a mistake.

If he does know that jar jar was a Sith Lord, by confirming it he would violate a non disclosure agreement and lose everything that he has. He has had a planned answer for that question for a long time. Just thinking about the theory is very intriguing. Only a few know the real truth.

8:25 to be fair, I have to give him right there. I grew up with the prequels and i never thought Jar Jar was that annoying. I even loved him in episode 1. I am 25 now and I have to admit he is annoying, but on an annoying scala from 1 to 10, i would give him a 5.

Jar Jar was not that bad, and even just trimming a couple of minutes of the performance would create a very different impression of him. I also liked the Darth Jar Jar theory, because it is one thing to have a clown and another to have a sinister character who gains trust by impersonating a clown. Yoda did it, but the reveal didn't carry over to another film. If it had, we might have had backlash and dropped the Yoda character as well.

Still makes sense: JarJar just never got discovered due to his fantastic disguise- those idiots made him a senator in Padmé's stead and then he handed the emergency powers over to the chancellor. Mind you, this way we can have it both ways- in the clone wars TV series he makes a good protagonist and can actually be helpful to the plot at times, but fans who want to see a Darth jar Jar can keep imagining it that way

It'd be great to have a jar jar with Ahmed Best down the pub pub. The character was part Disney's Goofy, part Harold Lloyd/Buster Keaton slapstick. Many so-called fans have never got that slapstick side of Star Wars.

If George Lucas wanted to go back and insert more Jar Jar scene's for this purpose, I'm pretty sure it is the one post release edit fans would actually welcome. Too bad he didn't do it before he sold it to Disney because any chance of that went out the door once he sold Star Wars.

I LOVED the second voice! It woulda been perfect! When I first heard about the Darth Jar Jar theory I just laughed, even though his smile he gave when all were applauding him at the senate meeting made me raise an eyebrow. I then watched a video that pointed out all the little things that could point at him being sith and I am now completely on board! Although I highly doubt he will be brought back or even mentioned in the new movies, it would be awesome regardless! And lastly, I was a Jar Jar Binks fan from the start, could never understand why so many people hated him, and am a little disappointed that George Lucas didn't stick to his original plans if J.J. was meant to be sith in the first place. And if what happened to J.J. in the books is actual cannon, well, that's just plain sad...

Wow, hearing what I've heard about this theory, and then hearing the " Just for the hell of it line" at around 11:46 , gave me goose bumps!

The way it COULD have happened. Instead of Zam the changeling, have JAR JAR be the changeling. Ep 1 stays just the way it is, but for Ep 2, make him also be Dooku as well, but, when the Jedi see Dooku the first time, have a Jedi say to another, "Dooku? I heard rumors he died years ago?" And then also show Palpatine talking to someone all in black on Coruscant that we don't recognize, even 2 scenes to really drive the questions. Then during the Dooku vs Yoda battle, have Yoda get caught off guard for a second, look right at Dooku almost confused, begin to ask him something, but Dooku (sensing Yoda is catching on) ends the duel and escapes. Then when Obi, Yoda and Windu talk at the very end of 2, Dookus name will come up and Yoda will suggest "A change in Dooku, I sense", but have it casually explained away that he's Sith, but have Yoda still looking not satisfied with that response, but keep it to himself for now, till he knows for sure. Then reveal him in 3 part way, reverse when Greivous and Dooku die, having Jar Jar til closer to the end giving a really crazy reveal before Anakins turn to the darkside.

I would much prefer the Darth Jar Jar to sound the way Jar Jar usually sounds and the way Ahmed did it at the end, it was perfect.

Glad I watched this. I am one of those kids who watched episode I (first film i ever saw on the big screen)and didn't see any problems with Jar Jar. Would have loved to see how it would have turned out. 24 now and still a fan regardless.

I'm writing this Star Wars fanfic set around the Original Trilogy era involving Jar Jar Binks which actually explains my personal beliefs about him -- that he's been obfuscating stupidity for all these years to mask the fact that he's actually become a very politically savvy, competent and capable (if somewhat clumsy, eccentric and unorthodox) Gungan leader... Though I'm probably going to make him one of the villains, he won't be a Sith, and I have a plan to deal with the inevitable Jar Jar hatred -- treat him as a clever behind-the-scenes manipulator in Galactic politics. I think that when he got banished from Otoh Gunga, he really didn't know what was happening, but his curiosity ended up saving him and getting him out of harm's way: that was the moment when Jar Jar became important to the Galaxy at large. Then, when he became the Senator for Naboo, he kept acting the way he used to around most people, but really became more sophisticated and knowledgeable than in the past, and used the fact that his superiors thought of him as the "underwater village idiot" to his advantage. Also, I have one question for Ahmed Best: if Jar Jar was still in the Imperial Senate long after the Emperor's rise to power, and before the Imperial Senate was disbanded in "A New Hope," what would a somewhat more dignified / government official Jar Jar sound like when not trying to imitate his past self or obfuscate stupidity?

Wow... the "Jar Jar's Big Adventure" script title was actually no joke... sigh, I am a bit sad that Ahmed may never return to p[portray or voice one of the best characters of Star Wars again, but his choice to move on and how he wishes to not recreate a special time in his life... well, there is more honor in that than the whole production of The Force Awakens...

I will never ever apologize for disliking jar jar. But i would never blame the actor. EVER. Its all on Lucas. He is the one to blame for how jar jar happened and portrayed.

It's hard to watch these interviews with Ahmed and not love him down to his bones. He's an amazing actor, with a very good head on his shoulders (get it?) and his humor is so on point. I hope that a groundswell of fan appreciation (ala Lucas's prediction) can convince him to reprise his controversial character in a future Star Wars story.

At the time I thought Jar Jar was going to be a counterpart to Chewie. Based on the scene in the trailer where Qui-Gon, Padme and Jar Jar walk into Mos Espa, I'd imagined the three of them had been wandering around the galaxy having adventures together.

I always liked Jar Jae when I was a kid, I reckoned his appearance to that of a dinosaur which around that time, Jurassic Park 2 was very popular - making Jar Jar an instant favourite!

I really dislike that Disney is attempting to write off the prequels at the moment. I kind of understand that they have to win back the prequel haters, but instead of brushing that content aside they need to own it and make it their own. I think they're just playing it safe for the moment. They know that the prequels are canon and that there's a large audience for them. I doubt they'll bring Jar Jar back, but they need to explore more Clone Wars on the big screen (I'm hoping for a Siege of Mandalore movie), or give us that rumored Obi-Wan movie with Ewan McGregor. With great writing and characters, even the prequel haters will love prequel era films.

I know that they will never ever bring back that character in a live action movie but it still breaks my heart a little that he wouldn't return to the role.
