As much as I am huffing the Abeloth hopium, I think it is The Son that is calling to Baylan. I'm surprised you didn't mention it when you had that lingering shot of the Son's face in the statue. It looks remarkably like Sam Witwer. He did voice the Son in the Clone Wars, so maybe he is just a cool dude and let his likeness be used. Kinda like how Freddie Prinze Jr. did a quick shoot to have a live action Kanan picture in the Ghost. If it isn't bait, then Baylan is being called by the Son in some form. On a similar note, the Great Mothers already have eyes that match Abeloth's. Vast seas of blackness, with pupils of small silver light. Mother Talzin didn't have eyes like that. Nor did any of the Dathomiri Nightsisters. It seems to be just the Great Mothers from Peridea. Unless I have just forgotten something. I think that Baylan will arrive at his destination and will find the Son in an ethereal form. Borrowing what the Kiliks said of the Ones, they describe them as just manifesting out of the Force one day. But they had ethereal forms before doing this. I believe this is mentioned in Apocalypse when several Jedi go to the Kiliks for any information on Abeloth. I think that because the Daughter and Father died by the Mortis Dagger and the Son did not, he is then able to start to manifest himself again. He calls to Baylan to either have help or to use him to speed up the process. The Norse symbolism in Baylan's name is too obvious to ignore. Skoll is the wolf-giant who chases the sun and when he does finally catch and consume it, Ragnarok is near at hand. I think that Baylan will find the Son and then either by mutual cooperation or Baylan forcing it, he absorbs the Son's essence and becomes so much more powerful than he could ever imagine. He then wants to take this power to end the cycle of war and peace, rise and fall, for good. We have already seen the Son display several of the same (or similar enough) power to what Abeloth could do. I think it could work out that way. Or it could play out another way. Baylan is about to achieve his goal, but a venegeance fueled Shin shows up. It's all his fault. Her master took the job to aid Morgan in liberating Thrawn. The Imperials abandoned her, her master walked away to chase his own mission. She's now stranded in a galaxy where the money they got paid by Morgan is no good. By the gods, she's in a whole different GALAXY with no way home. Shin rolls up, ready to stick to her former master for her situation. She interrupts whatever method Baylan is using to host/absorb the Son. Instead, Shin takes in all that power. And it's too much for her. She begins to transform. Shin already has an unsettling smile. The way she smiles and cocks her head at Sabine always makes me shiver. You can see the love of battle, the rage in her eyes. But she keeps a lid on it, mostly. She got kinda careless with her first attack on Ezra. But, imagine Shin getting up from the impact of absorbing the Son's power. She looks at Baylan, cocks her head, and smiles. But this time, the smile stretches from ear to ear. Her eyes morph into a deep black field of emptiness broken up by two small silver dots deep inside the eyes. Where her hands once were, tentacles writhe around.
