This is a very quick preview of the University of Zurich AI drone using the Vicon camera tracking system. Sharing this because it was so awesome to see a JS-1 Drone flown to its full potential! Absolutely Insane. Note this is a successful flight, not all flights ran this smoothly. But still pretty exciting when it gets it right 👍

It is an insane thing to witness IRL! On the final half day I designed a quick track, and within the hour of them telling me to design something, they had completed the first simulation runs and had it running the course at full pace! We just arrived home, but really excited to dig into this edit!! -Thomas

Thats about how I imagined it, from the launch. You gave them the lines to take and the program did the rest. Would think it would get to the point where it will have the same level of control as a train set, with just a dial to increase speed. Nice work guys, I hope 😬

I am fascinated by how you are training the RC inputs, and instead of a tx, you are directly bypassing manual inputs for pre-trained data. All this is a theory, I can understand how much an effort went into doing this. All the best univ. of Zurich, BMS and Cpt. Vanover! :)

I believe their final direct goal for this one is search and rescue drones, that can swiftly map/find survivors in collapsed buildings etc. The other area that we found which is a little more closer to racing home is for really precise and consistent data collection on new drone components! -Thomas

No FPV feed from this quad because it has no cameras at all. Instead the Vicom system has 35 cameras throughout the hanger that track the quad in 3D Space. I'll have more on the Vision based system and could possibly get the vision from their quads, but it won't look like what we see

I think it was 35 with expansion and contraction of the metal roof it didn't aways work, either way it was exciting

I don't remember on that track but they did another one, where Thomas ran a JS-1 and did a blistering 4.1, the Vicon JS-1 was able to get down to 3.4. Just looked insane! I'll share both flight from that one, because it's a good comparison.

I think formation flying will be possible one day. The system can currently only track and pilot one drone, but I'm sure with some keen programming they can grow its capability! -Thomas

not really... this drone has multiple external cameras and sensors to aid its positioning. It still can't fly with one onboard camera like FPV pilots can.

@@WerdnaFPV They did have a Vision based Quad that was super fast also but the humans on average were faster. Having said that, their system would destroy 99% of FPV pilots on their track. Irrespective you can't discount the achievement here. It is significant.
