Airbag light on or airbag light flashing? This video will show you how to diagnose and fix a flashing airbag light. The flashing means that there is a fault with the system. You can read the number of flashes and it will give you a code (codes listed below for ford ranger and Mazda B3000). If your code is not listed, just google the year, make and model of your car along with "airbag light code" (ex. 2001 Mazda B3000 airbag light code).
In this case it was code 4-6 which is the drivers side seat-belt pretensioner circuit which is cause by the wire/clip under the seat coming loose or getting moisture in it. Just separate the clip and spray some wd40 or electric cleaner in there and reconnect.
Ford Ranger, Ford Explorer, Mazda B3000 Airbag codes (2000-2005)
15- drivers side air bag circuit shorted
16- passenger side air bag circuit shorted
19- restraint control module (RCM) memory full
24- restraint control module (RCM) internal fault
25- passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) switch fault
27- passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) warning lamp inoperative
29- Incorrect Vehicle Identification Code
32- driver air bag circuit resistance high
33- passenger air bag circuit resistance high
34- driver air bag circuit resistance low
35- passenger air bag circuit resistance low
43- front impact sensor
46- drivers side seat-belt pretensioner
47- passenger side seat-belt pretensioner
Radio Shack Light Part #: 272-334

The best car purchasing choice I ever made was buying a truck that is the same make, model, and year of truck as ChrisFix. My son let me know the airbag light was blinking, this video is the first hit on Google, turned out to be code 46, popped the connector out,wouldn't you know the pins had corrosion, a little WD-40 and a metal nail file cleaned them up, plug it back in, the light is off. Simple 2 minute fix. Thanks so much!!

Oh my goodness, I can't thank you enough for this! I did it! I fixed it! The code was 4-7, passenger side. Found the connector easily, pulled it out, WD40'd it (took a minute to also lube the hinges on the kitchen door to the garage), reconnected it and started the truck--and it's fixed! Thank you, thank you. My go-to auto repair shop had told me on the phone, "Ohhh, we don't fix those. You'll have to go to the dealer." No, no, no. All fixed now. Smiley face! wd40 is not good as a regular "lubricant" - it is a 'water-displacement' and rust penetrating solvent. Use another petroleum distilate, silicone or other synthetic lube for lubricating purposes.

Chris, Thanks very much. Yesterday, I called Ford for an appointment for the air-bag fault that has been going on for a number of years. So I watched your video and then went out to the 2000 Ranger and read the code as 27, replace the light bulb. That's an easy fix and saved me the hassle of appointment, waiting, probably $200 and time wasted. This was awesome. Thanks again. Mark

Fantastic!! I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge and the airbag light started flashing about six months ago but quit after a few days. Yesterday it started flashing again and you would not believe some of the prices I was given as a guesstimate. I did what you said and the code was 47, which you also said was the passenger seat connector. I unplugged it and sprayed it and the light went off and stayed off. I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge with everyone. You have a dedicated follower from this point forward. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

Hi I'm getting code 19 on my 2000 Mazda b3000. My airbags deployed after a minor bumper to bumper. I have not done anything to them except just tear the airbags out. Without going to the dealer or mechanic how do I reset the airbag light ? What is code 19?
@chrisfix
@chrisfix 10 лет назад
Because your airbags deployed the computer in the car called the Restrain Control Module memory is full. You need to get a new one. It is located right above the cup holders and under the radio where the passenger airbag switch is located. Always buy new when messing with the airbag system and dont go to a junkyard.

I stopped today and confirmed that a flashing airbag light cannot be scanned through the OBD port at Advance Auto to determine the issue. Came home and found this video had a 47 code on my 2000 Ford Taurus-probably the same V6 engine as this Mazda truck. I tried using WD40 as recommended in the video and it worked like a charm! Thank you.

+Tran Ly for some reason I cannot reply to your question so I hope you see this. The connector might be corroded or coming loose for the side curtan airbags (just like the connector under my seats).The connector is behind the C pillar interior trim (rearmost roof pillar, next to rear window) on a 4 door car. The connector should be behind the side bolster of the rear seat on a 2 door car. 2 wire connector, and SRS wiring has yellow everywhere.Be careful when working with the airbag system and make sure you remove the negative terminal of the battery and wait at least 10min. My guess is that if you unplug and reconnect the wire harness connector you can fix the problem.
@Slash94995
@Slash94995 9 лет назад
Got it. So removing the negative terminal of the battery is before or after I've unplugged the connector?
@chrisfix

before you do anything, remove the negative terminal and let it sit for 10min then you should be safe.

***** There is no resetting an airbag light. You need to fix the problem. Try what I did in this video for both the drivers and passengers side seats.

Hey Chris, Thanks for another great video. I had this exact problem and your video was the cure. It was such an easy fix I could not believe it. You saved me $$$ and more importantly time (losing my car for a day at the repair shop). Besides, I'm sure the repair shop would have done exactly the same thing, or actually worse; replaced the whole wiring harness or the belt pre-tensioner sensor and charged me $250 in parts (+labor). I'm sure there are many easy fixes like this that most people can do themselves at home (with a can of WD40). Thank you again Richard

2003 Ford Ranger XLT. Trying to replace dome light bulbs to LED resulted in a spark at at the connections. Now the dome light is inoperable.Then, noticed the air bag illumination lamp on. Related? Hooked up to same relay? I know there's a relay box under the driver side dash. Never a problem with the air bag light until the dome light issue. Code is "2-9"
@chrisfix
@chrisfix 9 лет назад
Jason Ricci The spark is because the light had power to it when you were trying to connect the bulb. It is probably a fuse that blew. Code 29 is the Incorrect Vehicle Identification Code error. It is strange that happened. YOu might want to check the fuses and maybe pull the negative terminal on the battery for 10min (as you change the bulb would be a good time). Double check it is code 2-9.

Excellent production and information, and I'll try it on my 2002 Ranger when it stops raining. I might suggest a little change in the order of the video. I would mention disconnecting the battery right after you've determined the blinking code and turned off the engine. (There may be some impulsive people like me who are ready to dive into the "46" repair as soon you moved on to speaking about other codes.) Good point also about leaving the battery disconnected for 10 minutes before working on that connector. Thanks. I'll let you know what happens.

Excellent. Thank you my friend. I have a 2003 Explorer and the plug was white and located under the driver's seat and closer to the center console than the door. I also un-clipped the yellow plug, sprayed it with WD40 also, and snapped it back on. Warning light immediately went off after starting the car. Saved a trip to the $hop.

Hello sir. I have a 2000 Ford ranger with no airbag lights now. I haven't been able to locate any plug in under either seat. Can you give me any tips on finding it? I think I may have to pull the seat out.

You, Sir, were right on the money. My 2004 Taurus was doing the flashy airbag light thing, but a little dialectic grease in the connector (passenger side) fixed it pronto. Thanks!

Thanks Chris. Code 27 fixed -ford ranger 2002. Ford asked $240 for the airbag switch box. I bought a bulb for $3.50 and went to a mobile repair shop to change the bulb which cost me $10. All fixed around $13.50. Thanks

Thanks Chris for sharing this info on abs light flashing. My 2007 Mazda cx7 had a flashing abs light. After watching your video on counting the flashes, my cx7 code was 18. Cleaned the connection with brake cleaner, abs light is off. Thanks again..
