Looks like I mixed up the footage for the Sea Venom and the Sea Hawk, apologies for the confusion Also the Harrier Gr.3 does have countermeasures, I mixed it up with the Gr.1
Hey @skDoger is the p400 is a good plane? I played mainly Japan and am grinding a little bit of america bc I got bored of having to use the i15 russian biplane to grind sl at reserve tier (edit: to finance the grind)
@@skDoger I have tried it and am spading it - not particularly good climb, horrific turn speed and somewhat difficult to use hispano 404 but well armoured, speedy and when you can line up your 404 it instantly vapourises targets
Pro tip! For the USSR I highly highly recommend using their prop planes primarily in ground RB, due to their largely poor high altitude performance you aren't meta in air RB and are largely a free kill for many planes. In Ground RB though you'd be hard pressed to find many fights above 2,000 metres let alone 5,000, so you are always at peak performance and don't have to worry about some bf-109 diving on you from space.
I’m a newer player, and I knew the soviet planes weren’t the greatest beginner planes but it makes good work in ground rb as I mainly play that for tanks
Most USSR planes perform poorly at high altitude, but not all, some planes like the MiG-3 are designed to fly high and can even outperform some US fighters at high altitudes
Low tier br 2.0 arcade battles with ussr planes is some of the most fun I've had in warthunder. The tracer rounds you get still shred compared to other belts and you pretty much laser guys down
When in 15:33, Skd39 voiced the British tech tree analysis, despite up top it says mic problems, it actually sounds a lot better with this mic quality since it sounds like old school British broadcast lol. I personally love it
Can't wait to see the vulcan make its debut. Saw one in the flesh once in an air show a few years back. I'll never forget that iconic silhouette and the roar of its engines, or the times it managed to slip through the yanks' defenses to make a bombing run on Washington DC in an exercise. I miss it.
- I find the lack of comments on Griffon Spitfires having different playstyle compared to Merlin engines on commentary crucial detail missed. They start to weigh a lot and they perform better at higher altitudes than lower, and can be out-turned by other fighters if bleeding too much speed. - Another note, Sea Fury FB 11 is a hidden gem in naval tech tree, basically a Tempest Mk II at lower BR making it an excellent energy fighter. - While Tempests are boom and Zoom exclusively, Typhoons can turnfight with anything but japanese at low-mid altitudes.
I care to appeal. The Seafires and the Sea Fury are some of my favorite planes in all of the game. Especially the Seafire F Mk.XVII. Due to it's optimized Supercharger, it's incredibly competent in medium and low altitudes, It can engage basically any plane and win. Plus it has some bomb load if it comes to that. It's only drawback really is the 7.7s and the lack of ammo, but It never caused me any real problems. The Sea Fury is the definition of Skill Issue, and Misfortune. The Sea Fury has some great advantages, and as long as you keep them It's all gonna be fine. But the moment you're caught in a disadvantage, there isn't much to really counter that. If the enemy does not make some Darwin Award winning mistake, you're kinda dead. My recommendation with the plane is to play very carefully. Take your time, whatever you do, I generally retreat and land after each engagement, if I fell like it, and sometimes that Landing Hook is a great supplement to do just that.
0:40 actually, 4x PV-1s or 2x ShKAS MG's is firepower to be reckoned with, especially when they're equipped with tracers and aircraft on which they are installed, have 8 secs of turn cycle(or idk how that named correctly)
Good vid, but please, dont say the stuff you did about USSR bombers. The issue is that IL-4 and PE-8 are more capable of dogfighting due to strong weapons and good turn speeds. while PE-2 and TU-2 are more of hit and run ones since they dont have great turnspeeds and lack 360* turret rotation that doesnt allow to engage enemy fighters but instead have great speed to run away and good defences. And also the LA-200 though the thing is big and the canons are hard to use, it has very good roll speed unlike other fighters and gets an insane 1100kph max speed at 7.7, so thats a decent choice if u can hit your shots.
OOOOOh yeah especially the Soviet MiG-21 F-13 which is being long forgotten aircraft i am glad that it is mentioned in that video thank you Sk Doger and i can't wait for part 3
The Tu-14T is able to carry 6 500kg bombs compared to the IL-28 (and IL-29Sh) which can only carry 4, so if you like to use dumb bombs it might be a better choice for CAS.
Been waiting for this since part 1, been playing WT about 3/4 weeks now, just got my first jet in the USA tree but I got to tier 4 in British and tier 3 in German first, great video as usual
@@CasparPietersen is that a lot? I don’t really know lmao, I bought the XP-50 for USA and that literally got me to jets from tier 2 in about two days, ngl I don’t like the feel of the XP-50 and it wasn’t enjoyable for me even tho most people say it’s op but damn does it grind SL
How did you get all that SL, I am stuck at tier 3 Russia America and Germany I have no SL to buy new plane, good for you,I did a mistake I didn't continue with one nation
@@SMAK531 I made that same mistake, I went British, German and then settled on America, I had no clue what I was doing at the start with British so wasted loads of SL, the only reason I farmed so music SL recently was from buying the premium plane for USA, the XP-50, I made around 1m SL in two days from that plane, was a painful unfun grind I won’t lie but it was worth it now I’m at the first jets, i just go farm SL now with the XP-50 when I need more, granted it’s not enjoyable but it’s the best and cheapest method I know... not to ramble on but if you don’t mind spending £15 you can buy 2500 golden eagles, buy the XP for 1500 and then with the remaining 1000 you can buy a week premium pass which I did, this combined makes a tone of SL and research, granted that’s for USA and if you want to spend a bit of money, there’s similar farming vehicles for other countries tho but not as good to my knowledge
@@SMAK531 oh and another mistake I made with British and avoided on USA, don’t fully upgrade all the planes, I fully maxed out all the planes I had in British and it wastes so much SL, just pick a couple vehicles per tier and stick with them instead of trying to upgrade all of them as you absolutely do not need to and won’t use most of them again as you get better planes, that’s something I wish I knew when I first started
I would like to know if Japanese planes are a great choice or not, I really want some great turn rates and firepower, wonder which one I should take up
I would like to point out that the tu-14t can carry 6 500kg bombs, or 1.5 bases, while the il-28 can only carry 4 500kg bombs, which only takes out a single base
@@skDoger I've been waiting this moment all my life, and here we are, the legends were true, the day that will change it all, the day that we've been waiting for decades, what we need, what we want, what we deserve, will be served to us today, this is gonna change our lives, the way we perceive the world, our goal as the human race will be defined in the next 24h, today is THE DAY
I want to get into AirRB, but its pacing is a bit boring, and I only get one plane. I’m a bit new to warthunder (I’m on tier 2 of the US Tech tree). Does anyone have any good tips to have fun in AirRB?
Air RB is pretty slow when compared to arcade, you're just climbing for half the battle. I can't really give you much advice on having more fun, but getting kills is much more rewarding in RB. You're not forced to play it though, arcade is still really fun
@@skDoger still good that it will be here anyways but only complain About Sweden for me Is that 2nd to 3rd rank you need to unlock all planes to get the next rank
While soviet part is quite well explained and i agree with most things(Mig-15 as recommendation i kinda disagree, it's a great plane with mid cannons, it's it BR bracked is kind of a mess. But, it was a big learning step towards jets for me), britain part i disagree soo much about. Maybe because i'm a quite skilled player, maybe because i play RB, but: 1. Spitfires(except for the late ones due to what planes they face), while on the paper are really only rivaled by japan, due to only having landing flaps they can be outturned by a fair margin of soviet fighters which can use their combat and take-off flaps position. 2. Britain bombers are quite rare in air RB atleast, and there is a reason. While their payload is good, they are one of the slowest bunch, their defensive capability is abysmal, and their airframe is so fragile, even compared to bombers. Even .50 don't have much trouble cutting it in half, any cannon would fold them in seconds. And any fire often leads to releteavely quick death. 3. On the other hand, calling Canberra defenseless is a bit of a stretch. I mean, cannon-less variant is literally defenseless, but the one with cannons, for a bomber(even a jet one), is surprisingly agile. I had occasions when canberras outplayed me on a fighter jet. They do requre straight hands to do so, but it's far from defenseless, unless by defenseless it means that it doesn't have any defensive weapons. 4. I would say tier 5 is C tier, IMO only Meteor and partially Canberra are planes worth playing on this tier. Vampire and Venom IMO over-BR'd and become slow in their brackets, Attacker, Sea Hawk and Sea Venom already explained in the video(attacker is somewhat alright tho for it's BR), Swifts are very specific at it's gameplay as their turnrate is bad, it's hard to utilize those great ADEN's. Meteors tho - boom-n-zoom as a main tactic for a meteor is so wrong, it's the best early classic jet dogfighter(163 and ho229 are better), which able to outturn many late props.
@@czechchad1732 Idk, you get an F-16 at the very top tier. And the tier below you get F-5's and modified MiG-21's so you absolutely stay competitive. Perhaps not ideal, but gotta wait for Gaijin to add more domestic Chinese planes because Taiwan pretty much has all it's gonna get.
The USSR has the least meta prop planes in the game for Air RB. To stay competitive with them it's best to use them in Ground RB where they'll only break even for the most part. Their jets are a different story. The easiest nation in game for planes is blatantly the U.S., but every other nations planes consistently outclass the USSR for prop planes in Air RB, and even in Ground RB to some degree.
@@JM64 what yaks are meta as hell and are brilliant, they climb good, they out turn anything bar japs, fast on deck, central guns, small profile, can easily beat even spitfires if flaps are used well... Yak2kabb is just bluntly op Mig3 with the SHVAKs is insanely OP unless uptier ILs are really good ground attack P63 premium my beloved
@@anrw886 Yak's are certainly more meta than many Soviet props but that isn't really saying much lol. Yes those are all pros for the yak, but due to the poor altitude performance most of your targets in any match will be fighters you manage to drag down from space... and that's assuming they don't get you on their first pass going 700+km/h, also assuming they let you burn their energy in the first place. I also personally find Soviet cannons underperform like crazy or (at the very least) are certainly unreliable to kill, any sane person would *think* 20mm HE rounds would kill faster than .50 cal or .303, but apparently not unless you get some lucky shots; time and time again I've shot into just regular ol' fighters and I get "hit" or "critical", meanwhile they sweep me once and I get pilot sniped, or I lose half a wing and get caught on fire... you can say "skill issue" but again, you'd think even 5-10 20mm HE round would tear most fighters to shreds; also in War Thunder central mounted guns aren't as good as IRL since apparently tails eat 20mm for breakfast, while wing mounted guns can give you a "shotgun" affect where you can hit a bunch of an enemies sub-systems at once and drastically reduce their performance. "The IL series is a good ground attacker" all the more reason to use them in GRB, attackers are free food in Air RB more often than not. I otherwise agree on your points on the other planes, but notice how when all is said and done even with the Yak's that's still less than a 3rd of the Soviet props?
@@JM64 while yes yaks are not great at altitude at all, they excell extremely at low altitude as you said which a lot of players will be dragged down to or just stay at because they're shitters. It is very rare a player won't end up low and when they are it's usually near game end and they can be dragged down, no matter of skill. It's not easy, but definitely doable for a good player. You just need to pick fights better in them imo, you need to choose to just avoid engagements before they can even have a chance to start. As with soviet cannons, HEF is bugged this update. They used to be quite good however HEF no longer HEFs and often just bluntly doesn't explode, HEI is often a better option now. Hopefully this will be fixed.
Great guide, been waiting since part one. Also new players, dont be afraid of the limited ammo of the soviet planes. From my experience by the time you reach late tier 3 the aim starts to feel very intuitive and your ammo consumption drops to about 30 rounds per kill.
started playing with british tree (yes, including the ground), i must say the .30, although it lacks the power, those planes usually pack quite lot of them (im talking about you typhoon) so you can get some lucky pilot snipes. Also pick tracers for .30 for ez burn
The one Hurricane variant with 12 .303s are brilliant because as long as you know what you're doing and primarily staying at high altitudes, the low BR makes for a chill and fun game, but you are technically seal-clubbing. I mean, you really do feel bad when playing it for the newbies that you're taking out.
@@YataTheFifteenth True, half the time their barely even looking my way, or they'll start climbing for me when they're at an energy disadvantage. I do hope they stick to the game and learn but yeah, it a hard game.
Thanks for this series of videos, they are really well done! I'm a new player, or rather, I've played in the past but never got past the second generation due to lack of time. I would like to get back to it with a new account, but first I wanted to have an overview of all nations. I will eagerly await for the next video and especially for the one covering Japan because it is from their planes that my passion for this game was born. Thanks again for the videos! P. S. Sorry for my bad english, I'm italian xD
