Part 2 of the Airbrushing series by Wild Horse Studios. Part 2 describes and demonstrates airbrushing a sorrel or chestnut model horse. It is shown here on a Breyer Traditional Flash model. This horse used the masking tape markings method. This model was a commission and a portrait model.
Colors used:
Raw Sienna
Burnt Umber
These colors are not required to get the same effect. I always encourage experimenting to find what works best for you.

Nagrom Bot - (It won't let me just reply to your comment for some reason) This model was painted using the masking tape method, so his whites were not pained. He was primed with a white base coat, and then masking tape applied where white markings should be, and then they are taken off and touched up after the is finished being airbrushed. MOST of my horses do have hand painted white markings, and for that I use the same brand as my airbrush paint - Liquitex.

+Marchella B - It's not a huge problem, I have one jar of Raw sienna that is like that too. The more orange tone is better. The yellow will make your chestnut color look a little different than using the orange.

Also, please don't forget to mention the spray booth. I tried airbrushing without one and almost got bronchitis from the paint and moisture in the air, even though I had air flow next to my model.

How do you know if you "almost" got bronchitis? You either get it or you don't. There's no "almost"

Hi, what do you use to thin out the paint? I just recently got my first airbrush kit.

+Heather Ramsey The paints that I use are all water-based so I just use water to thin them out.
