Part 3 of the Airbrushing series by Wild Horse Studios. Part 3 describes and demonstrates airbrushing a buckskin model horse. It is shown here on a Breyer Traditional Zippo Pine Bar model. This one has been repositioned to a lope. This horse used the masking tape markings method to create an overo pinto pattern. This model was a sales piece and has been sold.
Colors used:
Yellow Oxide
Raw Sienna
Burnt Umber
Black
These colors are not required to get the same effect. I always encourage experimenting to find what works best for you.

Hello! I absolutely love your videos! They’ve been so incredibly helpful to me. If you don’t mind me asking, what colors do you use for the pale buckskin? I’d really love to try it! Thank you!

One other problem I need your help with I got the iwata neo siphon feed airbrush yesterday and it worked amazingly. Today my compressor said I wasn't using air and no paint or cleaner came out. Not even AIR! What do I do

Did you try completely taking the airbrush apart and cleaning it out really well? Usually if it's not working that's a sign that it's clogged somewhere. I take mine apart to clean after every use. It makes cleaning up take a lot longer, but it tends to be more reliable. You can clean it with water, alcohol, or airbrush cleaner. I've had mine do that once before and it had gotten paint farther up in the airbrush than what I would have guessed and then it dried up. There is a chance that it could be the hose or compressor too, but I've never had a problem with either of those.

This specific model has been sold long ago. And his white markings are masked off with tape before I airbrushed him. They are not hand painted on. Now I do most of my white markings by hand, just because it gives a cleaner look.

My paint isn't sticking on my model. Is IT to watery?
@WildHorseStudios
@WildHorseStudios 9 лет назад
Most likely it is that it's too watery. Sometimes it is the primer, but it's usually just the consistency of the paint.

Do you think that an airbrush like yours with the bottem jars are better than the ones with cups? My cup one keeps breaking.
@WildHorseStudios
@WildHorseStudios 9 лет назад
I think that the bottom feed (with the bottles/jars like I have) is much easier to work with. You just have to change the bottle to change colors and they're easier to keep clean. I started with a top feed airbrush and i never had any luck with it at all. I had to clean it ALL the time to have any hope of it working. I've had this one for almost 3 years and had almost no problems with it.

Thanks! I have the top feed one now and I got it yesterday and it's broke. That one is actually a replacement for my other one that I had that broke(same one) I have no luck with them 🙈

breyersequalsawesome I never had much luck with my top-feed one. It got clogged too easily and I ended up spending more time cleaning it than I did using it. You do have to be really careful with the paint you put in an airbrush too. If it's too thick that can cause problems. And always clean it really well right after you use it, every time. I take mine completely apart after every use to clean it.

Can you tell me the basics of this airbrush? I'm getting it😅
@WildHorseStudios
@WildHorseStudios 9 лет назад
Really the best thing you can do is to just play with it for a while. I have a specific model I have designated as my "test horse" and he's been painted LOTS of colors and repositioned and beat up a lot. Having a test horse gives you a chance to see what it looks like on a model, without messing up the one you actually wanted paint. As far as basics - keep it clean! This is the biggest thing for any airbrush. They last you MUCH longer if you keep them clean, and the paint jars as well (although those are much cheaper to replace). Other than that - push down for air, pull back for paint. Pull back less for less paint, pull back more for more paint. And like I said, playing with it for a while is really the best way to learn with them. My first horses I airbrushed really didn't look anything like this. It's a lot of practice. I started with black and chestnut models and went from there.

Hi! May I ask what colours do you use for a pale palomino?? Lovely custom by the way☺️
@WildHorseStudios
@WildHorseStudios 6 лет назад
Unbleached titanium is my favorite for a pale palomino. And then I add a light shading with pastel. You can check out my dappled palomino video for the colors I use. It's the same idea - just with less pastel added!
