Airbus bought their competitor and turned it into a very popular / profitable model in the A220. He’s thinking Boeing now has no choice but to buy them out and diversify their lineup. The only issue with that in my opinion is that Boeing is in one of the worst financial situations in the company’s history… they aren’t really in a position to make the purchase, and need to allocate those funds into internal re-workings as well as and immensely costly and important new narrow-body aircraft project.

In a duopoly, it is VERY easy for Boeing's PR problems to affect Airbus. It puts even more pressure on Airbus to be absolutely spotless, again from a PR perspective. Any perception problems arising from even mundane malfunctions can get blown out like...oh i dunno, a door plug 😁

Neither Airbus nor Boeing can supply forecast demand for airframes of all categories, hence why both their order books are jammed for years to come. Second - name another company that could do what Boeing did re the Max 8 crisis and still be in operation. Plus nobody has been found criminally liable. Boeing is joined at the hip to the US/World economy, the poster child for 'too big to fail'. And that's just the commercial side.
Being is heavily involved in the military industrial complex. They are the very definition of too big to fail and aren't going anywhere though the civilian aviation division is on the brink of collapse (rightfully so). Nevertheless I do think interest beyond the economic, i.e having a airliner manufacturer is a symbol of American technological leadership domestically and abroad, will do everything they can to prop it up and help them survive.

In aviation they don't usually lock people up for lapses in safety as it will discourage openness and collaboration. if a flight crew should crash the plane and survive they aren't hauled off to jail for any failures that might be their fault.

Boeing fails to turn a profit year after year, for generations. Part of the problem is their primary competitor is subsidized by over a dozen wealthy governments and is sold at cost or for a loss.

I would argue that the "Chief Financial Officer" of a major company is by definition a bean counter. The difference is that he and other Airbus executives don't prioritize short term profits or inflating stock prices over literally everything else, but recognizes that in an high tech engineering and manufacturing company there is immense value in having immaculate products. The product lineup and its reputation, the intellectual property, the manufacturing sites, the quality of the engineers and the well trained manufacturing staff are what make the company valuable in the first place. Boeing fell victim to the typical disease of American companies and prioritized their shareholder value over their actual company. They ran the company like a financial institution instead of an engineering company. Every time they used company funds for stock buybacks to inflate their own share price, instead of investing this money into R&D or quality control, what they did is that they quite literally extracted value from their own company to enrich their shareholders.

Airbus is not happy because it doesn't have enough capacity to fill in the orders. Boeing should have told Airbus earlier if Boeing want to drop out from the competition and focusing on money instead.

With new, perhaps very large customers and further orders come even longer waiting times and many "old" Airbus customers will be annoyed because the delivery times are getting longer and longer. Airbus needs Boeing. Moreover, new production sites and lines cannot be built from scratch. It takes many years and good employees don't grow on trees. Airbus is certainly looking at Boeing with both a smile and a tear in its eye.
It is not so easy. Aviation agencies everywhere tighten the rules for all planes, slowing down the certification process and thus hampering Sales for Airbus as well. Even though Airbus did nothing wrong, it is affected by Boeing's massive f*ckups. This is not a good situation for Airbus at all and risks shrinking the public interest in flying for many years. Both Airbus and Boeing are completely sold out on new planes btw and have thousands of orders each.
The FAA should also be in the hot seat for allowing Boeing to "self regulate" its quality control, meaning slashing it to "maximize shareholder value".

Boeing focuses on circumventing regulations in the service of ever-increasing profits to the detriment of safety. Airbus deftly navigates strict (for good reason) EU regulations while making superior products.

He got to patronise their only competitor while also talking about how Airbus are leading the way in both reputation and safety, while just coming across as a neutral person who's concerned about the industry and the public's safety. Probably not much. Most Europeans are multilingual and regularly communicate in multiple languages. I'd imagine that's especially true if you're the CFO of one of the world's largest commercial aircraft producers.

Idk if you guys seen any Airbus factory videos while they’re making their planes. Compared to Boeing, at least Airbus has all their employees uniformed and grouped accordingly. Boeing factories look like a bunch of contracted outsourced people. Something as simple as uniforms they can’t even do what more the proper oversight that’s required on building these machines.
I don’t disagree. American dress code has really changed. I worked for IBM twice. The first time, ties were very common; even when I was a field tech, we always had ties on and made sure we looked sharp representing the company. The second time, jeans had become the new uniform. Later on, I worked at Wells Fargo in a large office campus in Chandler - when I first walked around the campus, I thought I was at ASU! Cargo shorts, goth, ripped up jeans were common. It was…unexpected in a corporate environment.

Well I don't know about aviation. But in Shipyard I work for it is mandatory for all workers wheter they are Shipyard direct employee or subcontractor labour to wear a proper attire showing the logo and name of entity they work for. It is part of security/ISPS policy to prevent unauthorized person to enter our production line.

There is no "appearance" of stablity and quality. Airbus' track record speaks for itself. U.S. business practices are not the rest of the world's business practices. Many companies still take pride in producing quality products.

This is diligent and wise and prudent. The aviation industry needs both big manufacturers to be good and on top of their game as he wisely stated. Boeings’ earlier successes is what made Airbus better. And now Boeing need that same motivation to solve the problems and get better again . Competitors yes , but also one inspires the other to continuously improve.
Airbus needs a healthy Boeing to compete with. We can not let this duopoly become a monopoly, that's when you'll see stagnation and a big increase in prices. The problem at Boeing is that they've tied their faith with the 1960s designed 737, and they can only make small changes to it to keep the type rating. Boeing put that problem on themselves, but we need them back up and competing.

This is the mark of a Professional. You dont kick a teammate when he is down. Yes Airbus is a competitor, but when there is a serious crash or fire in Formula 1 all teams react.
It is also good business in general. There is not much to gain for them by pointing fingers. Sure, they might get a share of Boeing's business as a result of this. But customers aren't stupid. If they don't have confidence in Boeing's products, they will switch on their own. But this whole thing might lead to new legislation being imposed on the industry. And that will affect them as well as Boeing. I'm sure they would like to avoid that.
They want the status quo to be kept. It's better for them if only Airbus and Boeing shares all the marker shares between each other than if Boeing sinks and two new airplane manufacturers takes its place.

Don't forget same company (name) different factories (locations) Spirit acquired parts BAE system in Scotland and parts of Bombardier in Northern Ireland. Different factories, different cultures, they are de facto subsidiaries of Airbus.
This is good PR for Airbus too. Not that regular consumers really have an effect on thr company, but it's good overall to be in people's mind in a positive way.

This statement makes obvious sense if you consider the origin story of airbus. They were founded as a coop between EU countries to kickstart the european aviation industry as a competition to US made products, and have earned their position as equals by keeping a clean record. That was the only way they could ever achieve proper competition, by being considered equal to market leaders.

People already have a common fear of flying. What’s SUPPOSED to put those fears at rest is the knowledge that flying is incredibly safe due to the high standards of excellence and safety in every step of the process, from the training of the pilots to the construction of the planes to the safety checks before takeoff, and everything in between. Boeing has betrayed that. You CANNOT cut corners when building airplanes. This is something that simply should not and cannot be acceptable, when a single crash can kill 200-300 people in an instant. Fortunately it looks like at least Airbus have common sense and are willing to continue to uphold those standards where Boeing have fallen short.

I worked in aerospace for 17 years and then moved to construction. I tried to explain to construction executives that in aerospace, competitors would cooperate on safety issues for the common good of the flying public, customers and the industry. They just looked at me like I was insane.

Doesn't matter how rotten of a company Boeing is, their competition, Airbus is already maxed out in their production so it isn't as if their customers could just jump ship anyway. Boeing can race to the bottom and their customers don't have a choice anyway.
