The Aircraft Center of Gravity (C.G.) is the theoretical point of your Aircraft where the entire Weight is considered to act.
The mass distribution of your passengers, cargo, fuel, etc will affects the Center of Gravity location.
So, if you move bags from the front hold to the back hold your C.G will move Aft.
Every Aircraft has a Forward and an Aft Center of gravity location Limit.
These limits will make sure that your aircraft is flyable and stable. This is the reason why we carefully perform the weight and balance calculation before every take-off and if the C.G. is out of limits we need to change the weight distribution.
The Center of gravity works very closely with the center of pressure which is, the theoretical point of your aircraft where the Lift is considered to act.
The location of the C.G. compared to the location of the C.P. plays a huge role in Aircraft Stability. A Forward Center of Gravity will make your aircraft's nose-heavy and more stable.
If your C.G. is located in front of the C.P the aircraft will have a tendency to pitch down, so in order to fly in a level flight we need the horizontal Stabilizer to generate a downward force.

You are very welcome!! Usually you load the Aircraft to have better cruise performance, since is the phase of the flight where you spend the most of the time... A fwr cg will make your nose heavier thus an higher Vr should be required

I was an aircraft Load suprvisor. One day a 747 flight came in from Bombay stop over and flying to JFK 600 kilo freight to off load. At the time, I was also dealing with another arrival. So sent half my crew to deal with off load . When I finally got to the Bombay flight Rear loading door closing! My crew said there was no frieght to unload.Hold empty! The flight then took off to JFK After I was informed there was indeed 600 Kilo freight on board! What I would like to know is, WHaT IF IT WAS 6000 KILO REMAINING ON BOARD! How would the aircraft perform on take off?

That would be s problem because the aircraft is heavier than the pilots think, so they calculated the takeoff performance for a lighter aircraft.

Great Video captain thank you. What is the point called in the '''middle'' that neutral point , if you put cg in front of it planes nose down and if cg is aft of it planes nose up.Is it called Aerodynamic Center or something else?

Good Day Capt Gabriele, i have other question. For Boeing 737 aircraft if during flight fuel were used/burn and reduce the weight of aircraft where is the CG Center of Gravitity moving? Is it moving forward or aft ward?

Hey, many thanks for watching! You always ask very good questions! On a Swept back wing (like the Boeing 737) normally the CG will move Forward as you burn the fuel that is inside the wing. This is so because, usually, the wing tips are emply first. If you have fuel on the center tank and on the wings tanks however, you will burn first the fuel on the center tanks (which will cause the CG to move aft) and than you will burn the fuel on the wings (which will cause the cg to fwr). Great video. So the center of gravity doesn't stay exactly at the same point as the weight is, right? I presume there's a ratio between center of gravity point and the exact location of the weight, am I correct?

Many thanks for watching!! The C.G. location change if the masses inside the plane change location. For example, if all passengers move at the back of the plane during Cruise, this will make the C.g. to move aft. If the weights inside the plane stay constant and don't move the CG won't move. hey, I hope you are well! It could, the problem is that an aft CG will decrease the aircraft stability but it will increase its maneuverability. Some military AIrcraft were designed that way. Are you a Simmer? Have a great day!

Hello Captain, great video as usual. I have a quick question for you though : Why is the CG expressed in percentage? For example if my simulator tells me I have a CG of 23.7% what does that mean? How do I know if it's acting more in the AFT part or in the FWD part? Thanks in advance 😊

Many thanks for the great comment!! The 23% is the percentage of you MAC (mean aerodynamic chord). That means that you CG is located along your MAC at a distance that equals 23% of the length of the MAC. Let me know if I answered your question

As far as I understood, the MAC is the distance between the Leading Edge Wing and the Trailing Edge. If these are parallel the chord is equal at all points. For these huge commercial aircraft the design of the wings and the weight make it difficult to calculate all of these things and so they use the CG as a percentage from the MAC itself. If a plane has a CG between 0-50% is nose-heavy whereas if it has a percentage beyond 50% is tail-heavy. It has some limitations as you said in your video about the location of the CG so the ideal one should be around 25%. Thanks for the infos, if you're running out of ideas you could make a video about MAC, Leading Edge MAC and Trailing Edge MAC, it would be very educational, useful and interesting 😊😃

In video 10:25 with nose heavy/forward CG stick/control column force will increased also stall speed increased. Could you please explain more detail about this 2 relation? Hey, many thanks for watching!! 1.Usually the C.G. location is expressed as a % of MAC in the Airliners Jet. If you look at smaller planes the C.G location can be expressed in distance from the datum line. You simply need to verify this info in your Airplane Flight manual. 2. Nose heavy plane will increase your stall speed because the plane will reach the critical Angle Of Attack sooner. (I made a separate video where I explain the Critical Angle Of Attack.) In the video it is about plane at nose high over critical AOA. So i understand his comment as if we unload the wing it mean we increase the lift vector, is it true?
