AK-47 Talk: Going over pros, cons, and what might draw you to AK Pistols or Rifles, and specifically, the Zastava M92 ZPAP Alpha and Palmetto State Armory GF3.
A good way to get rid of that fireball is to get either a CNC 4 piece flash can or a AK builders one. AK builders looks more authentic to what they both are clones of. The real Bulgarian flash cans. Back in the day Strela made some that were hands down the absolute best made anywhere. I don't have mine anymore. but they are worth their weight in gold anymore. I also am not a fan of WASR's and they weren't my first AK either. My first AK ever was a milled receiver AK from CAI. I remember the first time I shot a WASR side by side with that rifle and the WASR was significantly more unpleasant of a shooter due to the stamped receiver and the WASR is over gassed significantly. It definitely has the roughest recoil impulse on any AK's I have shot and I have owned 5 to this point. It felt cheap. Nothing about it made me want one lol. I think Zastava is my favorite AK as of now that I have actually owned. I do want to get a milled Arsenal Sam7k pistol eventually. But so far, from my experience Zastava is probably the best buy right now. I own a M70 and an M92 and I love them both. They are both butter smooth. Especially the M70. The m70 has a few hundred rounds on it more than the M92 so its wore in better. But I'm not kidding, the M70 bolt slides like fucking butter in that receiver. I keep hearing arsenal boys talk about how smooth their AK's are, and I go feel mine and its like. I just don't see how it can be much better than how my Zastavas are right now. The triggers are super nice AK triggers too. The M92 has the slightly better trigger out of my two, but my M70 also has a super nice trigger. Both have about 4-4.5 lbs triggers from the factory. The only difference between them is my M92 has no noticeable wall at all on the trigger, it just rolls right through and you get the break right when you expect it and a nice clean positive reset. AND you can easily mount a red dot or holo? There just isn't much more you could want. I feel like the only step up from mine are going to be a milled receiver version. It would be super cool to see Zastava release some kind of milled AK to the American market. But I almost bet that the price would be similar to Arsenal at that point. My m92 cost me like 1300 bucks after taxes and thats the alpha version with the CNC brace and the booster and the pic top cover mount.
Wasr is a fine rifle. Aside from some early versions that had canted sights (easily correctable) and a bit of mag wobble thanx to century messing with the magwells, they do what an ak is supposed to do…shoot reliably. I’ve had several wasr’s and they’ve held up well over the years with thousands of rounds thru them. They also came with a chrome lined barrel since day one. It’s the gold standard of akm’s with most accessories and mags fitting them well. Zastavas, I had one and it shot fine. Too many cons in my opinion to justify the price. Too heavy for a stamped receiver. If I wanted a heavy receiver, I’ll just get a milled standard akm. Accessories a bit harder to find vs standard akm’s. The earlier yugo’s also had their share of controversy from metallurgy issues to non-chrome lined barrels. How fun was it to have to completely wash out your barrel after a full day of shooting corrosive ammo? I’ll take a wasr over a Zastava any day.
