Akai Force Performance Tutorial: Creating Variations That Are Easy To Perform

My last workflow tutorial video received a few comments from people who said they would like to see something that went into more detail on creating Force performances. That's a big subject so I'm going to break it down into manageable chunks. In this video, we take a look at a couple of really simple techniques for creating rhythmic and melodic variations that are basically fool-proof to perform.

By far the best tutorials on the force. I find it very easy to follow what you’re teaching and you cover the things I want to know with context 🙂

These videos are superbly put together and so easy to follow along. Really enjoyed the walkthrough on this one. It certainly makes a massive difference when fine tuning the different frequencies levels in the mix. The difference between both tracks is so distinguishable especially when listening through the headphones. The track with the processing sounds so good compared to the unprocessed. Great stuff!!! 👍👍👍

That drum bus tip was excelent. I'm coming from the Deluge which is much more limited in it's mixing/mastering. Submixes are an awesome feature of the Force.

Thanks, I’m glad it was useful! Yep the Force is pretty good for mixing now, if they added a LUFS meter to the maximiser / limiter you could get pretty close to creating something release quality straight out of it now. I do like the look of the Deluge, especially how portable it is…

Thank you very much for this interesting tutorial. I am always happy to see how other people use the Force creatively. One idea that came to my mind was that your method of drum variation could also be realized without using loops. Instead (or in addition) we could use multiple instances of the DrumSynth plugin, e.g. using DrumSynth:Multi + DrumSynth:Snare + DrumSynth:HiHat on separate tracks.

Yep absolutely! The principle is the same, and it’s much easier to perform like that. I like combining acoustic drums with sampled kits just because it sounds right with the sort of downtempo music I tend to make, but if I was performing techno or house I would definitely use the method you describe. Yeah it really is a beast! Sorry hiphop’s not really my genre, haven’t made a video about that. Marcus Elbow is worth checking out if you haven’t already, I think he’s done some hiphop stuff on Force.
