I've been getting quite a lot of comments / questions about workflow on the Force. I don't really know what my workflow is to be honest, so I set the camera up and filmed myself attempting to make a track. The resulting music isn't going to win any awards, but I think the video demonstrates one approach to working on Force reasonably well? I've captioned the video throughout, so you know what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. I hope this is useful for anyone finding their feet on the Akai Force. Thanks for watching!

Very nice, I enjoyed just listening while I was getting other things done, will have to come back and watch for learning techniques, and seeing how this differs from my MPC Live II.

Im new to the Force, have a native Inst mk3, so the work flow is crazy different. I learned a lot here and on your other videos, thanks for the sharing. Love to see a lot more from you. And I enjoyed your "OK" song too.

Thanks, I’m really glad you found it useful! Yes Maschine to Force is a confusing transition, coming from MPC is too. I think the only thing that sets you up for Force is using Ableton and a Push which is quite similar. Thanks again for watching 🙂

Excellent channel, my friend! You not only make learning the Force look so much easier, but you jam with it, showing the fun that can be had also. Thanx for sharing your experience with us.

Duuuude! What a beautiful sounding and refreshingly different track!? Tons of ideas for creating interest here and creative use of effects. Now for the bugbear and I see this with almost every video I watch on electronic music…. Tons of attention on everything except the harmonic development. The bassline hangs on the same note all the way through and I was absolutely willing it to change, particularly in the B section. Is it just fashionable to have a song with one chord all the way through or is it because people don’t know how to develop an idea? Or do people just like hearing all tension and no release?! The daft thing is it doesn’t take much to achieve this. Maybe I should make a video on this?
@MaxipokMusic
@MaxipokMusic 2 года назад
The thing with this sort of video is you just turn the camera on a try and come up with something, and the result isn’t always your best work, it’s more about capturing the process, if that makes any sense. I’m totally with you about the bass, in fact I’ve made a couple of videos about tension / release, and space / groove, and how they interact. Trying to make a track from scratch video is quite challenging, as I know from general music-making that my success rate for developing an idea into something decent is about 1-10, so setting out to make a video about it is hit and miss! Check out my ‘make interesting music videos’ and you should absolutely make your video. Electronic music content creation is very skewed towards technical how-to, there is definitely room for more music-making advice.

I like the Force for writing and arranging, but finding sounds is so tedious. They need a solution like the new MPC61 where it is much easier to find sounds and presets. I have not used the NI MK3 but can see it has a far better browsing/tagging system.

Thank you for sharing! Very helpful. I just got a Force with a bunch of expansions that all seem to be quite useless for me. However, I like the drumloop you used. Not so over the top as the loops I find in my own library. Where did you find it? An expansion pack? Or somewhere else?
@MaxipokMusic
@MaxipokMusic 2 года назад
Thank you, I’m glad it was useful! The drums are from the Darren King pack on Splice. It’s a really great collection of loops and one shots that I use all the time…

Great video! Do you ever use the sample key detection and then match that up to the scale performance?
@MaxipokMusic

Thank you! Nope, I’ve never tried the scale detect thing, but I will. It’s a good idea for a video subject, thanks! 🙂

I hoped this would have annotations describing every button press. I know it's a lot of work but I bet a lot of people would appreciate this. I've only seen one video that does this. This is an extremely complex, unintuitive device that I've never got to grips with and I've got a Degree in Music Technology! I'll try watching it in slow motion.....

Hi! This was one of the first longer-form videos I made and I hadn't quite got the format right. I'm actually going to make another one of these where I speak and describe everything I'm doing, so hopefully that will be easier to follow...

It's really a pity that I don't understand anything, a small French translation like many people do would have been welcome but I manage with the visual and sincerely after having shunned AKAI, and by dint of watching your videos, this machine starts to inspire me a lot.

There’s a problem you solved when you did complete beginners guide to the Force - he perfect video for a beginner… so I as very hopeful with this. Literally it seems no one has done that for making a piece of music. And I mean no one! As in talking as in saying EXACTLY which sample they used. It’s always one you won’t get hold of Nevee from factory set. Then there are vague tweets and turns of knobs not explained .., there are ideas semi explained…. I don’t get why not. Even if it was twinkle star. Simple lead simple bass simple pad simple drum track. No vague settings … no ‘well it’s an individual thing’ etc just even a synthwave track. There’s nothing! … some come close like this and somehow from this I will get somehow closer maybe if I can find the sample .. unlikely … and I will try and freeze your captions and Ty and read it all sure … and I will do that over and over but it all just makes it so much harder…. Please please don’t get me wrong I’m incredibly great full for the effort you’ve put in. Thank you! It’s just all incredibly frustrating for a beginner… I will get there but damn I just want to be able to make a simple song. Again thank you for all your efforts I really am great full

Hi, I’m glad you found it useful, and I’m sorry it didn’t fully do what you needed it to. I understand what you mean and I’ll see if I am able to make something which covers all the details in a future video. In the description to this video, there is a link to my Patreon and if you join, you can download the project file I used for this video so you will have all the exact same samples to work along with the tutorial. Hope that helps. 🙂
