@@liamkessler87 I'm aware of that I'm just saying that I like how Dana did a 360 on his design and how the fandom (including me) had a complete shock because of it Also people can like characters without condoning their actions
Head-cannon Alador: Amity Blight you will listen to your mother! No humans nor distractions young lady! Canon Alador: Hippity Hopity this 🦋 is now my property
Well, they're both still horrible. Even if Alador is cute, he's neglectful and ignorant as to what Ophelia does to their children. Perhaps he had the potential to be a good man, but for right now he is not. Not to mention that scene, um.. 1:43, it's not a 'for Amity' reason to stand up to his wife. It's a 'she might become useful in the future' reason. Keep that in mind.
My Headcanon is that in Understanding willow His wife manipulated him to act that way so that he won't switch sides (Odelia must've said something horrible about Willow for him to go on his wife's side)
I feel like Amity showing willow the memory was how amity saw her parenrs cold cruel and intimidating , and we’ve seen alador sorta lets odalia get away with some Cruel stuff but he does draw the line sometimes, i just think at that moment in time and age Alador scared amity cause she was tiny and this big man telling her about willow, and letting her mom be emotionally cruel? Yeah id be scared too
My theory about why Alador is so different than how he appeared in Amity’s flash back is probably because Odalia(?) Convinced him to agree with her about how Amity should be raised and saw how much Amity changed after losing Willow and felt guilty and became kinda withdrawn and apathetic.
@@antonissa8345 I mean that is a possibility but when we see Willows memory of Amity telling her to go, we can still see through Amity’s facial expressions that she doesn’t really want to do this and it hurts her like it hurts Willow. And If we saw it through Willows perspective it probably would’ve painted Amity to seem more catty and more happy to send her off.
Scruffy brown haired inventor who clearly does not get enough sleep and married a manipulative controlling business women ... So in other words my fan fic of dipper and Pacifica came true
My favorite thing about him is that he is just as manipulative as his wife. But hes manipulation is way more subtle and he himself is less emotional and more detached. He seems like a big picture kind of guy and im talking years if not decades long plans big.
I see him as steering Odalia away subtly instead of using direct confrontation. He clearly cares about Amity and he seems far more rational than Odalia. The latter of whom is as you said more focused on immediate achievements. Alador definitely seems to be the more deeper of the two, Odalia's the big cheese, but Alador seems to still have his own ways of manipulating Odalia.
Emese Molnar-Kovacs and jf k yes that's a bit manipulative, however she did threatened to call every authority she knows and all that, I feel like Alador would love to spend more time with his children however since they own such a successful, big and a well known company he needs to work a lot, and I mean a lot lot, so he doesn't spend time with his children, you can also see that he's sleep deprived from his work as we could also see him yawn a couple of time and of course the eye bags. We see that he calms Odalia or at least tries to, first when he said ,,She has a point you know" with a bit annoyed(?) voice and Odalia shakes him off, second when he tells her that a Blight always keeps their promise/word and lastly when he told that Amity is strong and she'll become the coven head one day and that calmed Odalia down, so I think that he does care about his children and sometimes manipulates his wife so she doesn't go cray cray, ( how ever I don't mean like a psychopath, but that she'll take stuff way too far) however they have been properly introduced only in one episode and that is this one, I bet they're coming back and that we'll get to learn more about them, but so far I see Odalia as the "children manipulating one" and Alador the "manipulating his wife to calm her down one" though everyone has their opinions so you can think he's manipulative ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Exactly. His wife is the more cartoonishly obviously evil one with the Bell”. She’s a living poorman Preston Northwest; I actually groaned when three had the amulet she uses basically be their version of the bell. But here..and god knows if he does end up being a bigger asshole than shown here, he is way more subtle. He’s like Disney trying to do a subtle “antagonist” for once.
@@nexaaaaaaa Whenever i see People react to this episode when they se Alador manipulate her they Are suprised And shocked Like he did something really bad. As you Said he knows what to say to calm her down. He raises his voice to get her attention And then says what she wants to Hear. I would love an episode where its just Amity And Alador in which Amity gets to know her dad better. I think that now that she is older she can see how her dad really is And knows her mom is the manipulator.
this hits differently when you know the man has not had a weekend off in 5 years. after constantly working in an isolated room,of course he would be easily impressed. imagine what more his children would have gone through if he hadn't agreed to odalias' deal. it's like being in a physical abusive relationship; you can try to shield them all you can but it doesn't mean they are going to come out of it completely unscaved and because he was constantly having to work he wasn't always there to protect his children or be an active father.
Alador seems like a very "technical" man. It's clear he's brilliant and takes pride in his work; which in turn makes him almost removed from anything else that's going on around him. But, he does seem to at least care about his daughter enough to put his foot down.
don't turn him evil. I can't. Just let me keep loving him There's the small fact i somewhat bear a resemblance to him. Hair, tired eyes, makeshift beard, gets they're attention lost by every little thing... i really don't want a guy who looks like me being an abusive father and crazy scientist.
@@-cynti6-109 I think it's more he just goes along with what his wife does, it is clear a lot of what happened to Amity was due to the mother's actions mainly
@@blackdemonknight and yet Odalia listens to her husband's suggestion, takes it under advice, and agrees wholeheartedly with him, so she isn't (at least completely) the only one who wears the pants in the relationship.
Well I can definitely see where Edric gets his personality from lol. Emira seems to get her personality from her mom, but she's not bad as her mom. And Amity seems like she got some of Alador's personality as well, but she's mostly serious though.
Amity’s dyed hair actually matches her mother’s more than Ed and Em’s. Also the twin’s hair colour seems to be a mix between Odalia’s and Alador’s (the dark green is a mix between turquoise and brown). That’s kinda interesting...
@@theflashgirl2057 he just seems tired of life, if it ever came down to the danger of Amity or Amity's friends I can see him helping them because you can tell he cares for Amity
From the way he acts, and the way he talks to Odalia, I'm going to guess that he just goes along with Odalia's garbage because he's too tired to do otherwise. He's definitely the better of the 2 Blight parents as far as moral standings go and despite his subpar parenting skills i'm growing very fond of him as a character.
I have the feeling Alador is gonna be the supporting Amity when it comes to her feelings for Luz. Something like a advice that makes no sense but it's helpful anyway
@@marcfals2449 I feel like amity got much of her personality from the books she reads, as we know she likes to sneak away to the library. Though, I think she got the hardworking and competitive part of her personality from her parents.
Honestly I was not expecting this adorable cinnamon roll when Dana said quote on quote “he’s...interesting”, and also o the fact that we mostly went off of Amity’s mom that we just assumed both of them were bad but he’s not bad he just gets pushed around!
Dana Terrace said she had fun writing Alador because he is “interesting.” Now that we have seen Alador, I have a little more hope that it means something good.
I always had this headcannon where they actually switch turns on being the dominant one in the relationship. Like there's a time where alador just gets tired and let's his wife be in charge, but if we just wait on the right time he could turn evil. I mean he's just probably tired, imagine if he just suddenly switched from being submissive to being hella scary when he's angry or provoked. He can clearly get a hold of his wife quite well if he wants to.
i think this is exactly why dana said he was interesting to write. you know there’s another side to him, but you don’t know what that side is, or if it’s good like escaping expulsion implies, or if it’s bad, like understanding willow implies. he says that amity can be a coven leader since she’s getting stronger. it could be to get odalia to calm down, or thinking of what his daughter could do, caring more about her power and her magic than if she’s actually happy.
@@sylviequinn9190 he's observant, mindful and smart. I wouldn't be surprised if he was scheming this whole time. I mean if you look back at some of his moments, he's very observing and and always thinking. If he's an evil genius, then he made a good job on making himself look laid back. It just feels like there's something more to him than meets the eye
@jf k yea. at the end of the day, i’m honestly so interested to see what his place will be in season 2. also i really want a flashback of young odalia and alador, prob along with young eda and lilith. idk if they’re the same age, but it could show how odalia is the way she is. i feel like with her, there might also be more than what meets the eye.
@@sylviequinn9190 with that in mind, i believe amity is going to be a potential antagonist, if she's going to be a candidate as a coven leader. So yeah lumity might be screwed
Maybe they were trying to flip the script by making the FEMALE the abusive one for once. Ya gotta admit, there are far more abusive fathers than mothers in media.
He is an engineer, maybe hes just a naturally curious person whos always wondering how things work. But do to a decision he made as a stupid teenager (which he most definitely was, don't try and convince me otherwise) his magics been stuck to abomination, which after seeing the same thing over and over again would definitely get tiring.
Alador being curious about Bump's hat made me realize Amity's parents have probably never been to the school before, another sign of neglect that they don't even bother participating personally in her academic life while still demanding perfection in her grades
I know for a fact you saw a comic where he's a warewolf but yes, look at this poor man's skin, I can tell his somewhat of a chill push over but powerful when he wants to
Also I love that Amity is the only Blight child who has the hair roots like her father but paints It green to be more like her mother. Probably some childhood pressure thing. Love the visual symbolism there
@@kiroreo you are right actually. Dana confirmed that the reason why amity has green hair is due to her mother. She wanted Amity to “fit” with the rest of her children.....yeah
I love how they didn't make him completely hapless, like he was just being used by Odalia. The guy actually has an agenda outside of Odalia's wishes and I like that. Gives him a bit more depth, and I certainly want to see more of this loveable goof.
Not everyone forgetting what happened with willow, he literally played a part in that, and how he does nothing about the abuse his wife puts the kids through. Edit: Not to mention neglect, not hating just please dont excuse his behavior because he looks like he needs a cup of coffee
That hasn’t been forgotten, but given what we’ve seen here, his wife is the one who’s more controlling and cruel here. Granted, it’s too soon to draw any conclusions, but so far it’s looking like she has all the say and power in what goes whilst he lets her have her way, which would make him more to blame if anything for being a doormat and not standing up for his kids.
@@robbieking4070 imo I think at the time of Understanding Willow, Alador was just like Odalia, but over time he just stopped caring and became a doormat
Tbh I think what happened on Understanding Willow was on Amity's perspective on the memory. Much like to Willow's case to Amity's. We also shouldn't forget that Dana said on her AMA that Alador is an interesting character, meaning there is something more to him than what meets the eye.
What the fandom thought Alador would be like: tall, intimidating man we would get a reason to hate right off the bat What he is actually like: tired, slouching dad who just wants to chase butterflys In conclusion: I love alador so much, this man would literally just spend all day sitting in a conservatory looking at cool butterflies and plants if he could
