I was a USAF Air Traffic Controller at the Approach Control in King Salmon Aprt in 1980. The air traffic in and out of KS during the salmon run was amazing. Virtually, anything and everything that could fly hauled fish out of that airport. Stretch DC-8's that would lay sparks when they rotated, old DC- 3,4 and 6's. It was amazing to behold. One afternoon a C-119 "Flying Boxcar" had their left engine catch fire with the result of the left wing collapsed on the runway. The runway was closed and traffic diverted or sent to holding points. Wish there was a video of the air traffic volume. I can only imagine what it is like nowadays. Good experience.
