Small detail, the Swords of Darkness the adventurer’s group mentioned belonged to a single individual, the ‘’Dark Knight’’ from the 13 heroes. He had 4 swords he was using. You might see one in the future! The 13 heroes is a commonly known legend for the people of this New World, they fought ‘’Evil deities’’ a long time ago and are often used to benchmark heroic strength.

when momonga ask if ogre drop crystals - he is asking about "data crystals" which was like a common lootdrop in the game, which was necessary component needed to make most modification on armour, wpns and like was also used to modify the guild layouts n such. 2 centuries ago there was a band of adventurers who where called the 13 heroes , one of those "the black knight" - who is said to have wielded the 4 swords of darkness. each of the 4 swords has an actual propper full name (in the LN)... there is a bunch of side stories that go a bit into detail about how the original 9 players founded nazarick - how found and conquered the dungeon. there is also a couple of other side stories - the biggest is an alt story where only momonga gets teleported into the new world without the npcs or the staff, only what had on him at the time (which was like 5000+ firework items among other stuff) and he goes explore the world alone with some new ppl that meets, that story takes place like 300+ years before the main story~ is alt tho noncanon i believe, there is some other stuff like that, but the LN side stories is the best way to get the additional content about the real world and yggdrasile. proper overlord movie coming this summer that isnt a recap of season, but proper continuation of the story.

momonga is using a spell called "perfect warrior" that transform him into a warrior of the same level he is at - e.g. 100 - that lets him use warrior based equipment, the downside is, he cant use a majority of his spell in that form, he also doesnt get any warrior related skills or such. its just pure strengths dex etc

The source material for basically ALL Isekai are Light Novels. So if you really want to know more you have to read them. I'm a slower reader so the average LN volume takes me 10-12hrs, for context on time investment. I once again recommend the ple-ple Pleiades shorts (each 2-3 minutes long one per episode of Overlord) and the ple-ple-pleides movie. They are often humorous and provide additional info not covered in the main anime series. Of course, the ultimate lore is the novels and things like the drama CDs, and unfortunately, a very large amount is cut from the anime.

The anime does not give as much information about the previous life/game and the lore/history of the new world, while the Light novel does give a bit of info and pieces here and there... but a lot of clues can still be gathered by context that you will probably miss but people will end up telling you in the comments...

Honestly, if you want to know more about yggdrasil and the npcs, i reccomend watching AniNews videos about Overlord (after you finished watching all seasons of overlord of course). The deep detailed lore that isn't really needed to enjoy the story but is definitely something lore enjoyers would love can be found in the light novel where things are more detailed. Regarding your question about the 13 heroes and other players, don't read if you don't want spoilers: the 13 heroes were another guild of players. There is later reference to another guild called the 8 Greed Kings. It all eventually suggests that the players that were in game at shutdown were all transported to 'The New World', but arrived at different points in time. Some hundreds or thousands of years in the past, who left behind legends, items, and their magic taught to the inhabitants, and... others. This also means that other players could already be in the world right now, and if not, could appear at any point in the future. Maybe tomorrow, maybe 1000 years from now.

15:27 The reason Momonga didn't want to solo this quest is because he is a mage who is pretending to be a warrior, meaning he has no defensive crowd control such as a taunt mechanic that can lure enemies into fighting specifically him instead of the person he is trying to guard If he were using magic, he could just use anti life shell and protection from arrows, or summon an army of zombies, or use wide area blasting spells, but without any magic at all, he just has low level damage nullification, lots of health, and high base stats from literally just being high level Gareff would be alot better in this quest because he can attack multiple enemies simultaneously, while the hero momon can just hit one at a time A full party is actually required for this particular mission, or a high level warrior that is actually a tank class would be fine

There's a lot of channels out there that focus on the lore of Overlord's light novels. Once youre done with the Anime you can check those out if you're still curious, they do a great job!

Mythil, orichalum, and adamantite are all strong and durable fictionale metals in many anime, with the first usually being magical and the last named after adamant another word for Diamond. Read the overlord novel two times, There is a literal Fuckton of information about the game that is relevant to this day because the sheer amount of characters, 41 supreme beings/players and each did so much for nazarick and the new world has like at least 700 years of previous events that still have some relevance current events and more keep showing up. Just Nazarick lore could be a book of like 100 pages, I'm not talking about just the guild I'm talking about the Dungeon in which Nazarick was founded on, because it has previous history even in the game

Most of which doesn't get brought up in the anime, and some of which may lead to spoilers related to future seasons that haven't been released yet, so Overlord is the trickiest to discuss. You would need someone to essentially go through the entire wiki and cherry pick info for you as you watch through the series to fill you in without giving away too much.

the first 2 movies are recap, the one that has to realease is new stuff, as for waiting, s1 july 2015, s2 january 2018, s3 july 2018 s5 july 2025, i basically grew up with this anime, seen first episode when i was 16, i'm 25 now lol as for clementine and khajit, there is the black scripture, which clementine WAS part of, you'll meet some of the members later, and khajit is part of a certain organization which clementine joined, (i think?) but as any dark organization, every member has own motives and plans, but clementine just loves chaos, that's why khajit told her that he would kill her since she was jeopardizing his long awaited plans

As a note - There is not going to be a lot about Ains' past. You get snippets about some of the other people who created the other NPCs. Like why Shalltear and Aura bicker with each other(Their creators are siblings). As for those adventurers - That is one of a few Adamantite (Highest tier) Adventurers, but not the only ones. That particular group is just well known in E-Rantel. And you will know why later.

There are many rules in the game that he still needs to follow even in this world... his character is specked into wizard by default which means he shouldn't be able to use swords and armour normally. Except in exchange for not being able to use any magic he can actually act like a warrior with that armour he has. Ha has many interesting items like that.

If you are truly interested in the lore of Overlord, which I am warning you is an insane amount, then I suggest reading up on the wiki site. It has a lot of information from interviews and things the author has brought up or answered about the lore. Just beware because you could go down the rabbit hole and get INSANE spoilers before you realize what you are reading.

no it was one of the heroes (black knight) that had 4 swords not 4 heroes that had one sword anime gives some hints about the old world and players but very few answers, the books are a lot more clear about it but still not many answers so far.

Also minor spoilers, since you asked, the adamantite class adventurers they're picturing belong to a team called "Blue Rose" and they are an all female team we'll meet later. I'd actually say that top tier adventurer teams follow the general adventurer trend of skewing a bit more male than female, in fact we'll briefly meet Silver Thread Bird which is all male, but Blue Rose is the big one based in Re-Estize so that's presumably why these adventurers from Re-Estize had them in mind.

Overlord is one of the most complete and best written stories, I guarantee you that patience at the beginning will be very satisfying towards the later seasons.

It start at rank 1 and grow to rank 10. There is a little more to it than that, but you'll see later in the show so I won't spoil it. 2- To answer your question... No, it's not what Demiurge (the demon talking with Albedo) said to Aura and Mare (the elven twins) Them dressing like the opposite gender was a decision of their creator, not something other floor guardians convinced them to do. 3- "Pulling the turtle's head out of it's shell" here just means they will make sure they will take the bait so they can get them. You cannot cut a turtle's head while it's still hiding in it's shell after all, so you must bait it with something if you want to eat it. There is nothing strange about that phrase in that context. 4- To be fair, even if it isn't a video game, people can get better at fighting. He was also refering to that while also thinking about levels. To put it in an easy to understand way... If you swing your sword 1 time, you'll understand it's weight. If you swing it 10 times, you'll understand it's reach. If you swing it 100 times, you'll understand how it react to air pressure. If you swing it 1000 times, you'll understand how to use your muscles to reach the best angles every times. If you swing it 10000 times, you'll be able to feel how the smallest change on the blade, be it blood, fat or a small dent affect it. Of course, that's extremely overly simplified, but practice does make perfect and, if you practice enough, you will improve a lot. 5- If you want to know more about Ains's original world, the best way would be to find the light novels and read them. There are way more information in them and they are really interesting. The author as such a good way of writting that he can make almost anything interesting. To give you an idea, in one of the books, there are a few pages were it's one word over and over again, but he wrote it in such a way, that word as an enormous impact each time your read it. That word, to give you an idea of how much of a feat it is, is "Splat" and it is glorious. Of course, I will no spoil the context in which it happens. 6- Hum... what was said was kind of thoughless though. The intention wasn't bad, but it kind of means "You'll be able to find people to replace them" when you think about it. A better way to phrase it would have been "I'm sure you'll find people you'll love as much as them". What he said was "I'm sure you'll find allies like them again" which is very close to "you'll be able to replace them" when the scar hasn't healed. That's why it was thoughtless, it wasn't mean, but badly worded at that moment. Keep having fun with the series!

Because Overlord is a novel, it has a huge amount of information. Since the novel is still ongoing, it takes a huge amount of time to understand all the information. If you don't have time, there are explanatory videos and explanation and discussion pages on the internet, so I think the best way to understand it is to refer to it for each topic that interests you.

Well in this chapter there are not too many things to say, however, I will try to clarify some details that perhaps were not clear. (NOTE: my contradiction begins) The NPCs in the tomb don't know that they were characters from a video game. From their point of view, the Guild members were their gods who created them and the other "players" that sometimes came were "enemy gods" that they sometimes had to fight. Also, since teleportation was used a lot in Nazarick, the guild members didn't really interact much with the NPCs, but they remember some things they heard when their creators casually passed by and interpret it all as the divine will of their creators, leading to many amusing confusions. Demiurge asked Mare in chapter 2 about her clothing. In Japan, the Gap Moe or "contradiction of appearance and behavior" is very popular and the creator of the twins was basically making a joke by making them both wear reverse outfits. It could also be that she had a fetish for cross-dressing boys, considering her brother was incredibly perverted. But that is why now everyone believes that "by divine decree" children born in Nazarick must reverse the type of clothing they have. If Ainz does nothing, they may soon have a "funny fashion nation" on the horizon. Looking at the battle and what Ainz finds out, we can see that there is a type of magic in the world that is similar to the one in the Ygdrassil game, the so-called "Level Magic" or "Tier Magic". But in this world, there are exclusive powers that Ainz does not have and that are actually originating from this New World. Over time one deduces that "Tier Magic" came at some point in the past, long before Ainz came along and it became more popular than the original magic. The powers of this New World would be the following: First, the Martial Arts, which are gained by genetic disposition and later developed with the proper training. If you don't have the potential for Martial Arts, it doesn't matter how much you train, because you will never get stronger than someone who was born to be good at it. Then there are Talents, which are basically random boons and can either be useful or useless. For example, it is said that there is a person who was born with the ability to know the exact temperature of water, but naturally this Talent is not very useful in combat. Instead, a talent to be “Immune to Poisons” would be much more highly valued. Finally, there is a third type of natural magic in the New World, but for now I won't talk about it to avoid spoiling. However, the Crown of Wisdom that Clementine stole is an item created from this third magic. When Ainz fights with his armor he cannot use magic. But being a Level 100 player, his physical strength is far superior to that of a human. This despite the fact that his character is a Lich, who are always physically weak. Fortunately, his opponents this time were pretty stupid ogres, who only know how to attack forward. Narberal's lightning (Nabe) is a simple 3rd Tier magic, so that reveals again the terrible weakness of the beings of the New World compared to Ainz and his gang. During dinner, the conversation introduces us to another clue about the history of this new world: 200 years ago, there was a group of extremely powerful individuals called "The 13 Heroes" who went down in history by defeating a terrible group of monsters known as the "Demon Gods" who plunged the world into chaos. Many were considered authentic demigods, but due to the time that has passed the details are not very clear and they only tell us about one of them, the Dark Knight who fought using 4 magic swords, one of which is currently in the hands of a powerful female Adventurer of Adamantite Rank in the Kingdom, while the whereabouts of the other 3 are unknown. (At this point I realized that I was writing too much, but I still didn't want to stop. ¡How hypocritical of me!) The existence of the sword proves that the 13 Heroes existed and it is theorized that one or more of them were actually Ygdrassil Players like Ainz. However, it is most likely that they were not level 100 players, but a level closer to 50 or 60, because in their legend they always seem to be on a par with other creatures that are strong in the New World, but that for Ainz or level 100 NPCs would be easy to beat. Believe it or not all this is not a spoiler. In the Anime any reference to the 13 heroes is completely ignored (except in a later episode) until at least the fourth season. Although the novel itself is not that it gives us more than bits of information. The way Ainz gets angry at Ninya's comment reveals to us that in his original world he was very lonely and didn't have any kind of family or friends outside of the Ygdrassil game. That's why the pain of being abandoned by his friends is abnormally great and the adventurers are confused believing that his former comrades have passed away. An interesting detail is that the adventurer Ninya (the talented magician) had an older sister who was kidnapped by a corrupt nobleman. He naturally has the goal of getting her back, but first he needs to get stronger and gain influence. The comment that the adventurers make about Ainz's power reveals a lot about the level of the people of the New World. One of the strongest humans is Gazef Stronnof, but according to the adventurers Ainz has superior physical strength, although we know that he realy is a magician and that implies that he is physically weak. Now, it's true that Gazef didn't have all the enchanted equipment with him that would normally allow him to get the most out of him, but he can still be used as a reference. If we use math from the Dungeons & Dragons board game, which is the source of inspiration for much of the Overlord lore, we can deduce that Gazef will be somewhere between Level 29 and 30 based on Ygdrassil Game logic. So that means… that most characters in the New World couldn't hurt Ainz even if he stood by doing nothing because of his passive ability to “ignore any physical hit from an attacker below level 60”. By the same rule we deduce that the adventurers now accompanying Ainz will be between level 9 and 12, which is the average rank of any skilled combatant in the New World. Although, thanks to their experience and teamwork, they would obviously have the advantage over an opponent like, for example, young Nfirea, who is not skilled in combat but must have a similar level for being a magician. Similarly, an Adamantite Adventurer could be between level 27 and 29, but would still have a chance against Gazef Stronoff depending on equipment and circumstances. (At this point I realized that I was showing off, but for some reason I wanted to continue) Clementine is a warrior who can use martial arts, but not magic. However, she knows a lot of pretty cool tricks. The weapons she uses are stilettos that have been enchanted with different magics and she can activate them as soon as they make contact with her victim. We saw the demonstration of one of them when she pierced the escaping adventurer, who was imbued with hypnosis magic. In the end, Khajiit (the bald wizard) mentions that Clementine is a human who reached a level of strength known as the "Realm of Heroes" that surpasses humanity and is above people like Gazef. We also know that there is a squad of the Theocracy, the Black Scripture, that has individuals of this “Heroic Level” and that they are surely now hunting Clementine for being a traitor. One detail that I should have mentioned earlier is that, in his original world, Ainz was a clerical salary worker in a somewhat exploitative company. This has been firmly engraved in his personality and that is why he often uses terms like “superior” instead of “masters” or talks about implementing “salaries” or “staff meetings”. That is why he often cannot understand things that people from that New World tell her, such as "the honor of warriors" or the "dignity of the aristocracy" because he judges almost everything according to the parameters of a company. Sometimes this has its good side, because the tricks he learned as a salesman can help him appear friendly among adventurers, like when he convinced the guild receptionist to let her choose the quest, because he couldn't read the content of the ads. One of the biggest discomforts for Ainz is that his servants are so loyal that they consider it their greatest happiness to work 24 hours a day for him using items that make them immune to hunger, fatigue, or sleep. I'm glad you want to learn so much about the world of Overlord. If you really want to learn, read the books. Every anime you're watching right now has a web or light novel. The books will always have far more information than the anime. Just for the record season 1 is very tame compared to the rest. I would also suggest you do the English dub. It's very faithful to the material and I honestly like the voice actors better. The guy doing the English voice for Momonga has this great great tone. It's kind of like listening to Morgan Freeman, he sounds like he could play God. Honestly though all of the English voice actors are great. And you don't have to read everything.

Each season covers 3 of the light novels. Season 4 covers books 9 10 and 14. Now their is a movie coming out this year that covers book 12 and 13

About your question if all of the NPCs believe that Albedo and Ains are a thing, in the light novel, they (the NPCs) are actually part of two main different factions. There are the ones who think it should be Albedo, and ones who think it should be Shalltear. Nabe, for instance, is a supporter of Albedo, where as Solution (another of the Pleiades) is a supporter of Shalltear.

If I'm correct, the Overlord series started when the author wanted to do a DnD campaign, but all his friends were unavailable. So, he created his own. Thus, the world has very extensive lore

What I hear is that from a lot of people is that s1 is the best than degrades each season, so don't get your hopes too high. But personally I think s2 and s4 are the best seasons. The world building is amazing.

He has a magic skill called "Perfect Warrior". It basically enforces a temporary class change to "Warrior" (at the same level he is, so level 100) and overrides his actual class, which is why he is actually much weaker (this is "relative") in this form as he can use almost no spells. Clemantine is really quite strong for a human yes. I don't know whether you remember, but it mentioned in an earlier episode that humans (due to lifespan and aptitude) can only generally learn up to Tier 3 magic. There are a few humans that basically break human limits and are considered as "hero" class, but even they can only reach up to Tier 5 magic. I would highly recommend the Novels. They give more background information and includes more worldbuilding.

Man, I blasted through 16 volumes of the Overlord Light Novels so fast too after finishing the anime, so I can completely relate to your curiosity about the series. Ultimately the anime is based off the Light Novels, so once you're done with the anime, if you really like the series, you can get more answers there. I believe that Overlord started as a book. Had such success that it got a manga and anime. But alot is lost when changing the medium. In the books, you get a lot more of momongas inner dialog and thoughts. You get a lot of insight, you don't get in the anime. That said, I don't feel the book descriptions beat the anime fight scenes. So I guess while some is lost, other is gained. They really did an awesome job catching details and subtleties. Giving you the full situation in one picture.

The best way to learn more about Overlord is to read the light novels that it is based on.

Aninews has amazing videos regarding overlord lore and cut contents of the anime. You can check those videos out. Also just a note that Overlord anime adoption is a bad adoption yet the anime is very good and enjoyable just because of the quality of the story. So just imagine how well written it is.

Momo / Ainz being unable to use full magic in armor seems to be a nod to the old all Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D 1st edition) tabletop RPG rules, where magic users couldn't wear armor, and those rare magic users who also multi-classed as fighters (like Ainz is doing) couldn't cast spells when they opted to dress as fighters in full armor. (AD&D rules strongly influenced other RPGs, including those written in Japan.)
