When our albinos spawned, years ago, it was easier to take out the fish instead of the eggs. And it was a crazy amount that hatched and survived. They are super cute little suckers! Congrats!
@DansFish
@DansFish 6 лет назад
Yep, that is also a good way to do it. Mine spawned in a 75 gallon, so I removed them because I like to start fry in smaller containers so it is easier to keep food in front of them and I did not want to dedicate an entire 75 to the batch of fry. But removing the adults works well too if one has the tank space.
@raisinggoldfishonabudget7058
@@DansFish Being I just got me 6 of them from my fish store today I have them in a 75 gal with black diamond blasting sand & its 3 sided blacked out & I have 1 air filter going, but with about 15 Danio's I'm thinking of adding 2 more sponge filters & some sort of a small pump power filter for a little extra flow to the fish & keep things stirred up for the sponge filters, I have some drift wood I haven't put in the tank yet. Would that be advisable to put a small flat-ish piece to hide under or chew on whether they do with it, I have Java ferns, amazon swords water Wisteria, bacopa, tiger lotus, jungle Val, all going around the frame of the tank & have the front view window all open its pretty cool.

Very cool video than that but just thought I’d mention that using Malachite green And loading them in a container in the same tank they were hatched in with an air stone work perfectly. All I would do is once or twice a day move the container around so the eggs would keep from Growing fungus.. With that combination I have had a hundred percent success every time they bread.And if you ever get an opportunity, try throwing in a piece of PVC pipe that’s cut in half… They like to lay eggs on that and make it very easy to remove them. And PS… The fungus will spread to the other eggs ..I learned that the hard way On the first batch!

I breed bronze and albino cory’s here’s a little trick I do that most don’t lol I used aquarium glue to glue a suction cup to the outside bottom of a small square tub and stuck it to one end of their tank wedged in a corner of the tank that way the lay their eggs inside the tub and have a ledge to lay on then I Just remove the tub and the eggs will have been laid inside the tub so I don’t have to scrape them off and risk hurting the eggs :) may just be me lol 😂
@strider5119
@strider5119 4 года назад
The part where you separated the bad from the good. I just wanna add to that. People say "fungus can't spread and infect other eggs" which as far as I know, it cant. BUT, as the fungus grows it clings onto other eggs and minimises movement and their ability to eat etc. So while the fungus doesn't appear to eat at other eggs/hatchlings, it definitely wraps around them and causes death.

Am I correct in saying that you do not need an airstone or heater? I screwed up I think as I didnt put my eggs in a seperate container, but instead put them in a breeder box in the tank that their parents and some other small fish are in. Its now day 2 and I think that all the eggs are dead. Should really have watched videos first, but I didnt want to set up a new tank for the eggs, and was concerned about air and heat. Also, how on earth do you do water changes with them in the water? Anyway your video is awesome, I will watch and rewatch!
@DansFish
@DansFish Год назад
Eggs don't need an airstone. The water does need to be kept at the proper temperature. Water change multiple times we s a day during incubation for best results.

I know that these Cory are very common and pretty cheap as far as cory’s go but they are my favorite. I have 15 in a 90 gallon tank that I built myself. It’s 6 ft long 18 3/4 inches wide and 16 3/4 inches tall. Watching them swim back and forth across the length of the tank is comical. Miquel, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I don't have a 90 gallon aquarium. The corys spawned in a 75 gallon aquarium. Luckily, there are many pre-made aquariums available to me, so I did not have to build it. A 75 gallon tank costs me $150-$200 dollars or so.

They eat things that are rotting to prevent pathogens from thriving. They filter poop that still has unprocessed proteins in it to reduce ammonia spike. Their bodies often nitrify what they eat down to nitrite or even nitrate so their poop hardly produces ammonia.

I just lost all the fry from the last lot of eggs from my oldest bronze corydoras. It was a massive amount and she was huge. The next day after spawning she was dead. One of my housemates (none were brave enough to admit it as they saw how aggro I was) unplugged the heater and air pump to my tank where I hatch/raise my fry to use the outlet and did not plug it back in. We are in spring here, but the overnight cold is still a bit chilly ... all dead. Dan quick question how long do you grow them out for before you feel they are safe to be added to the adult population?
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
Oh, Melody, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your clutch and your female! To answer your question, it all depends on how much you feed them. When I grown the fry with constant livefood, they are big enough to go in with the breeders in 3-4 weeks. Double or triple that if they are fed commercial foods or are fed less frequently.

We got a 30 gallon tank and we have been in the booting up phase ( plants + substrate and let it sit for 2 weeks). We added good bacteria and have a sand substrate. So we want to get corydora's first. Introducing them to be the first fish in there ( I do have 1 assasin snail in there to deal with the snails that came with the plants). I reckon we might buy like 10? But if we leave those for a week or two before we introduce new fish (maybe neon tetra's) you reckon they can breed? And do we HAVE to take the fry out in order for them to survive at all? We have nice plant shelter (wood + a vern or smth on it). and more plants across the aqarium. Kinda want to know if they can just reproduce and have few fry (the fittest) survive without removing them from the tank

What temperature should water be for those eggs???
@DansFish

I keep mine in the mid-70's F. Whatever temps the parents spawn in will probably be just fine for the eggs (otherwise, they would not spawn at those temps).

I have one albino cory in my guppy tank.. couple of days back it laid eggs. .so, basically it doesn't need any male cory to lay/ hatch the eggs?

out of curiosity, why do you need to change the water so often a day?
@DansFish
@DansFish 4 года назад
Because I keep a LOT of fish in my aquariums, so I have to keep their tanks clean.

Didn’t know you could use hydrogen peroxide on the eggs! Is it the same as the blue stuff? 😂

I have a question for anyone that reads comments. I bought a new type of cory catfish a few days ago and I can't find out what type they are. The pet store said they didn't know. I have searched videos and looked through hundreds of pictures. They are brown on top, white on the bottom, and a light black stripe down each side. If anyone knows what they are called please let me know. I already have peppered corys, bronze corys, albino corys, and panda corys. I would love to know white my new corys are.

I guess you remove the eggs because the parents might eat the fry? Also is peroxide better to use than Methylene blue?
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
Hello James, Yes, I remove the eggs because the parents will eat any fry they can catch. I like both peroxide and methylene blue. I think they both work well. I use peroxide because it is cheep, you can buy it anywhere, and it does not stain everything it touches blue for the rest of eternity :)

Great video Dan! I believe in another video you mentioned you also use black worms to cycle your tanks. I can’t find a video on how you culture black worms, do you have any advice or information on them?
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
Howdy Francesco, I culture them in a bare bottom aquarium with a sponge filter. I use a 20 long or a 30 breeder, but you can use whatever you have available. I keep them just like fish with water changes and floating plants. I feed them sinking fish food with a mix of protien and veggies...algea wafers work great. I also feed Repashy, sinking pellets, bananas, boiled pumpkin, and other random table scraps. I stick food that wants to float with a stainless steel fork so it stays down with the worms. If you put a course matalla matt on the bottom of 1/4 or so of the aquarium, the worms will congregate in the matt and you can remove the matt and rinse it in fresh water to collect them.

Dans Fish Thanks so much for the info! I’ve heard the worms need to be physically broken apart to get them to multiply. Do you stir up the substrate to help with that?
