Demo of the Alesis HR-16. This is a budget digital drum machine made in USA. What you hear are the stock sounds and some of my own grooves. No effects used.
The HR-16 is a nice machine, but the buttons and pads are cheaply made, so they tend to fail, you have to press harder or several times (like seen in the video).

I had one and used the hell out of it. Bought it brand new shortly after it came out. If you forgot how to do something you could always flip the lid on it and the instructions were printed there. A self documenting piece of hardware!

Used one of these for a band from 1997-2000. Wrote and recorded a whole album using one of these, with midi out to run a DM-5 for the tom sounds. The best way to make this machine sound good is to find the perfectly tuned sounds for what you are looking for. Tuning is very important. I always needed a splash and the crash tuned up really high made for a nice splash. Down tuning the kick and snare made it have a sound of its own.

Little known fact- the case for these came from a surplus telecom case. Alesis bought them up in bulk and built the product to fit the existing case. Certainly helped to keep the costs low, which was one of the success factors of early Alesis products. Cheap and useful seemed to the Alesis motto - and you could spend much more on synthetic percussion, the market wasn't exactly flowing with drum machines at the time due to costs of memory - which were just coming down in 1988 making a true 16-bit dynamic range possible at a reasonable cost.

I was literally just listening to pure guava and googled what drum machine they used on it, the funny thing is that I already use a sample pack of this machines sounds in my own music sometimes but I didn't recognize because of the wildly different context (I make vaporwave/synthpop and usually drench the drums in reverb) Just goes to show that no drum machine is confined to one genre, the same machine can sound way different depending on the rest of the song it's used in and the effects you put on it
@jn99231

It's funny that you can see in this machine the transition between 80s and 90s drum machines, from simple analogue boxes with nice designs, to giant calculator-looking preset sounds.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the drum machine my bass-guitar-playing friend borrowed from his cousin the first time we ever recorded a song I had written to a multi-track recorder. We had to borrow that in addition to his Korg M1 to complete the picture. That was back when I barely had anything. Now I have enough musical toys to keep me busy for years.

This machine gets grief from many, but I’ve always liked the sound of most of the sounds, esp. the unprocessed ones. the claps are kinda “meh”, but run this thing thru any one of Soundtoys analog emulators: Radiator, Decapitator, or DeviLok, and watch out. Things get badass real fast. I have had the Sr-16, and SR-18, & I still prefer this relic. The fx today are so much better than what could be put in a small, economical box in the ‘80’s, so, Im blew the dust off mine, and hooked it up!

omsonic nothing violent. should've gotten three years. but prison is a money making business so.... bodies in prison equals money for people who work at the prison and companies that sell products to inmates and free staff. they milk yah... prison is no longer about keeping the worst inside. it's about gathering as much as you can, scare the public, and make money off of bodies. kinda like in the Blade movie where they store humans then feed off of them.
@devicefactor2290
@devicefactor2290 7 лет назад

Victor Martinez who's side are you on? it's no one's business.
@devicefactor2290
@devicefactor2290 7 лет назад
Victor Martinez sometimes people go in that have never been in trouble before, graduated high school early, made a small mistake and they throw the book at you because it retains numbers which in turns leaves job security for those who run the show. it's a business. it doesn't matter what kind of crime. but it wasn't always like this. prison was only reserved for very very dangerous people. but I live in a wealthy position now and I'm back to doing what I've loved the most prior to going in, which is an obsession with Synths. and I'm glad that I made it out alive while the staff said grace and thanks every week to inmates for committing a crime ( or innocent) so that they could feed their family. I'm so absorbed in what I'm doing now to not cause any harm to another human being. I understand curiosity but I'd like to leave it at that.

@LittleRichard1988
@LittleRichard1988 26 дней назад
It is actually a 16 bit drum machine believe it or not and was one of the first 16 bit drum machines. However some of the samples could have been recorded several years before. The snappy snare does sound similar to the Roland TR-626's snappy snare and is probably based on the same sample. Some of the percussion samples like the woodblock were also used by Roland in the R-8 drum machine and I'm sure some of the Latin percusion sounds are the same samples used in the Roland TR-727.
