Holy hell this is cool. I recently bought this model drum machine after learning guitar the last 3 years. So this is my next step to advance from metronome to a drum machine. But I’m overwhelmed trying to figure this Alesis out, I’ll keep messing around with this. Thanks for your RU-vid videos to help.
@@RiffMusic1970 I found learning guitar that Skype or Zoom lessons helped me the most. Is there a way we could do Zoom or Skype lessons. We could figure out when, how long and I could pay you for those lessons via PayPal or some other way. Just asking as this would actually get me using it and your knowledge would cut months off me trying to learn it and me possibly just giving up on it.

Hey Riff. I appreciate your SR-16 vids (and others as well). Thx. I know how to use patterns to create a song, and you demonstrate the process nicely in this vid, but there is one thing I can't seem to figure out while working with my old SR. Once a song is completed is there any way to loop it continuously during playback? Or is the song always destined to end at the final step with no option to repeat? What would you do if you had a basic 32 bar song form (AABA) and wanted it to play on a continuous loop? What am I missing? I really don't want to create a 128 step pattern ( you explain why in this vid). Thanks in advance, Jason.
Copying all the patterns over would be the only way. I don’t know of a way to start the song over. Do you have a DAW? You can record it and loop it. That’s what I would do.
thanks for this. i've just gotten this machine and want each song to have a different tempo but not having success. they all play whatever tempo is shown on the screen. seems like there should be a 'save' button. i'm missing something! thanks for any help. byron
I have one of these and I've never been able to figure it out properly. I've only scratched the surface. All I want to do is be able to have a drum intro start a song, and then put a fill wherever I want, and have it return to the same pattern. Even that I haven't figured out. The beat buddy mini looks far easier to use, and I'm tempted. But I know the SR16 is a good machine. Frustrated ...
Try using the preset patterns. Make sure “preset” is showing and press play. When you want a fill, press the fill button and hold it past the “1” and it’ll stay on the same pattern.
@@GrandpaMunstersMultitrackLab do you mean a high hat count in before the song starts? I’m trying to think of a way to add one. It would be easy to make one in a “song” but I don’t know how to do it live. Can you build the parts in a song and play it the same way every time? You’d lose a way to play a fill whenever you wanted, but you could make a count in and have a consistent song every time.
@@RiffMusic1970 Yes, any kind of count in would be nice. I've never even used the compose feature, I just play along to presets. I may eventually get a beat buddy mini 2 ... I think it can do all that stuff as you're playing. Just push a button for a count in or fill, or transition from verse to chorus. Composing a drum track seems to be over my head right now. I just play guitar and play along with it etc.
Don't be frustrated. You have a clear vision of what you want and the Beat Buddy seems to fit perfectly. The mini is only mono, so I'd recommend getting its bigger brother.
