Those of us old enough to remember when this album came out, it was mind blowing and years later when they put out 2112, wow! There was always a line to buy their new albums and concert tickets sold out within an hour. I was lucky enough to see them on their Moving Pictures tour and I stayed mesmerized until the next day. I'll never forget how awesome they are in concert! Thanks for choosing this album!
one of my favorite things these days is watching RUSH reactions and seeing how people are so WOWED by them. and RORY, is my fave reactor to them by far... I'm here for the ride..🎼🎵🎸🎸🥁
Geddy and Alex were 20 or 21 at the time. John Rutsy was the drummer on their first album. Due to musical differences and the fact that he was a type 1 Diebetic and he was not taking care of himself Rush's management let him go. Neil Peart was asked to audition and joined the band. From the next album on it was Neil.
Rush loved Cleveland, OH, so I was lucky enough to see them many times. The first was the original lineup as an opening act for a triple bill of Rush, Manfred Mann & headliners Uriah Heep. The second show with the original lineup was at Ohio Northern University. Another triple bill of Rush, The James Gang (after Joe Walsh left) & headliners Kiss. I think the tickets for both shows were $15.00 each! The last concert was when they recorded the live in Cleveland show. What an evolution.
Yeah, when I first heard this opening track from RUSH back in the mid 70''s, I was instantly hooked! I couldn't believe my ears! Thanks Rory. P. S. Condolences for the loss of your Queen, Elizabeth.🙏🙏
I knew this album would rock your world from your ‘Working Man’ reaction. You’ve already listened to ‘Finding My Way’ and ‘Here Again’ and soon you’ll listen to ‘What You’re Doing’ which were 3 songs I recommended to go to after that reaction. This album is easily top 5 of my fav Rush albums but totally in the minority in that opinion. Just too Zeppelin-ish for some maybe and I get that but really how can that be a bad thing?
So this is their first album. The drummer, John Rutsy had health problems and didn't want to go on the road. So they let him go and hired Neal Peart. He had like 2 weeks to learn the songs before going on tour.
we ALL got this album the second they strted playing working man on the Indianapolis radio stations-then they opened for faces with ronnie wood and rod stewart at the convention center a wild concert the radio played finding my way and in the mood a lot -also need some love -this album ws blasted at all my parties back then =late high school for me...
they debuted as one of the hardest of that time ! we all had this it was the start saw them 3 more times 2112, and next album tour the years later lord what a progression i was at the right age for this17 danced like hell at that concert....fuck yeah!!!!!!! it still fuckin ROCKS!1
At the intro to "Take A Friend," the Beatles song you're thinking about is "Here Comes the Sun," during the break and they're singing, "Sun, sun, sun, here it comes..."
The first three albums are the hardest IMO, but #1 holds a special place for me just because it is so raw. Note: I'd never listened to a full Led Zepplin album in my life before hearing this way back when it was released, but also I still haven't... :) Cheers and have fun. :) The first three songs are good, but very straightforwards to me, the fourth is the one that gets me as far as the bass playing and Geddy's singing and of course Alex...
re-visiting Rory. This episode caught my attention when it came out and your earnest, honest, strong observations are the stuff of tradCan, the way we were and shall again be, straight shooting Canadians, funny & fierce, strong and free. This is as evident as is the FACT that Lifeson , is, indeed, God.
haha, love watching your Rush reactions Rory.Cracks me up when I see you enjoying it so much, screwing your nose up and grinning haha..And yeh, nice to see the spotlight on Alex for a change.Incredible guitarist, and yet he could walk down a street in England and be completely ignored (which is prob the way he likes it).Gonna love watching your progress in Rush's progression to progressive music!😁
Just watched a new rushfans channel rush roundtable talking about overlooked songs from each album, and Donna Halper picked Here Again as a great example of their musical ability.
No exaggeration, my favorite album of all time and has been for several years, lots of people are usually like "Rush's first album? What?" And I'm like "Yes, you heard me" lol
Try a bit of Cold Chisel live - Bow River and GEorgia on my Mind Live - I reckon you’ll dig Ian Moss’ guitar and vocals and a Harmonica as lead.A then Jimmy
I read that John Rutsey was responsible for the lyrics for this album but he dropped the ball and Geddy had to scramble to write the lyrics. Rutsey preferrred Zeppelin rock / blues while Geddy and Alex wanted to move toward prog - that also factored in to the decision to replace him.
