I like to think it's because their characters are older in the movie. More maturity, sort of lol

Because they are fighting FOR each other. They both love one another. They are fighting for what they each understand will be the ideal outcome so no one is hurt/harmed. Each one is coming from their respective understanding of what is safe. But, together, they are able to create something neither of them had predicted. That's the power of love and having kind support.

@@evas2615 Alex was talking about getting into politics at the lakehouse and also in bed in Paris about how important it is for him to be in it. Problem is that politics brings a lot of coverage and exposure, and Henry already has enough of that being a royal. So going from the scrutiny of being a prince, to the scrutiny of being with someone in office is a lateral move, and he'd rather go with the relative safety of what he knows than what he doesn't and still feeling trapped.

Yes! There is actually a deleted scene that talks about this. Alex talks to Henry about never letting anyone fall in love with him, and Henry replies with a story about himself as a young prince in a castle losing his armor, but the heart was kept locked away in the armor, and the king gave him the armor saying "If you always wear this Armor, nothing will ever happen to you" Which makes this scene TRULY hurt more... It's the same with The Cornetto deleted scene too where Alex tries to annoy Henry by saying "you are dealing with a professional" then when they are in Paris Henry says to Alex "You are dealing with a professional as their relationship gets deeper"

It can also be said that Henry knew the game so running away after fooling around with Alex was wrong.

But he wasn't 'fooling around' with Alex; he admitted from the first that he fell in love at first sight, just believed Alex would get bored with him because he (Henry) saw himself as such a messed up person no-one would want to stay with him; and he warned Alex from the first time not to fall in love with him. To know Alex was planning a futue together, not just about to admit to falling in love, made him panic and run, to try and avoid breaking Alex even more.@@ebonylady

I agree, Henry should have talked to Alex openly, but I also think that Alex (also in the book) never really tried to understand ALL of the implications of this on Henry's life and future. I feel like the consequences of making their relationship public are much worse for Henry and will actually change his life completely (of course at the end of the book he ends up liking the idea of a different life but right now it's normal that he can't see that because he has grown up and lived all of his life being told that he belongs to Britain, as if he was a property and not a person). So I also understand why Henry feels like Alex doesn't actually see his point of view and is unable to understand his worries. I'm just happy that they found a way through all of this

I think that's the beauty of stories. Lead characters go through obstacles until they resolve at the end. These obstacles are what make stories magical.

Henry could never say no to Alex, like he begs Alex not to make him say that Alex must leave. Properly breaking things off would have meant that Alex would fight for their relationship and Henry probably could not follow through. I think ghosting was the coping method for Henry to follow through on what his mind thought would be the best thing, without having to (purposefully) break his heart.
