REVIEW: Aliens for the MSX 2 is one of Squaresoft's earliest games, one that was developed and published just before the company went bankrupt and was saved by Hironobu Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy. Based on the movie of the same name (called Alien 2 in Japan), which is one of the great 80s sci-fi action movies, this is one of the few games made in the era based on the franchise, a rare game that was made for the budding microcomputer market in Japan at the time. Another Square-developed game was in the works for the Nintendo Disk System, but it was scrapped shortly before completion, though a prototype was leaked, which ‪@RewindMike‬ talks about in this video (Huge thanks to Mike for his help covering the unreleased Famicom Disk System port! Check out his channel and make sure to sub!)
IGFTW Ep. 43 is a review of these titles, Aliens for the MSX2 and Famicom Disk System!
As of the time of this video, an English patch is not available for this game, but maybe that will change in the future.

Out of curiosity were any of the staff who made this also work on Predator on the NES at all? The two games do look quite similar. But, most excellent feature Sir! I grew up on the UK Aliens game, completely went over my head what you're supposed to do as a kid.

Hey Larry, thanks for watching--I'd love to try the Aliens UK computer game, but it's hard for me to come by, obviously! I enjoyed watching some gameplay videos, though. As far as the Predator development team, I'm not sure, but I would imagine that the similar look the two share is purely coincidental.

Hey! I don't usually comment, but I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your videos. Especially a big fan of the pickups videos. I don't know what it is, but there's something about all the differences in the box art and such that really interests me. Plus all the stuff we never got here in America. You do a great job of displaying things, and going into detail on them. It makes it so much more fun to learn about Japanese games. Hope you're doing well!

The long fabled Aliens episode has arrived. It looks pretty darn good for an MSX game. Got quite the developer pedigree behind it too which I never knew about. Glad you finally conquered this demon Jimmy. Gotta be about a year since you mentioned wanting to do this on a stream.

Great episode. I'm quite fond of this game despite some of the weird game design choices. The music fits the game perfectly, with the stage 1 track being especially awesome. There is a boss fight even in stage 3, if you enter the second last door. The game is poorly trying to hide the fact that you can crawl through one section at the end of that stage.

I picked up a fdstick and this was the first game I tried. I couldn't get far, nearly every enemy I killed damage me with acid. Enemies dont seem to spawn until you are right on them and if you dont attack right away they damage you, if you do attack right away you dont have time to get away from the acid. The max game seems fun tho.

Obviously it's hard to find niche Japanese figures here in the U.S., but popular Japanese characters seem to be easy to find. Long story short, I've searched so many times to see if any Ganbare Goemon figures or plushies exist and have nvr even found a picture of one. Yet, here is Jimmy Hapa's shelf, with a nice set of Goemon, Yae, Ebisumaru and Sasuke figures. What company made those, that's literally the 1st time I've confirmed that Goemon figures exist.
@ImportGamingFTW
@ImportGamingFTW 4 года назад
The figures you're talking about are probably the sofubi/soft vinyl keychains made by Hobbymate. They're pretty hard to find--not sure if you saw my video from earlier in the year on Ooedo Daikaiten, but I'm pretty sure there's a fairly recent shot of my collection near the beginning or end. There are a lot of Goemon goodies out there, just gotta persist (and pay handsomely for 'em!).

@@ImportGamingFTW Hobbymate, thanks Jimmy, the hunt begins! They kinda look like the silicon Ooedo Daikaiten style. That would be sweet! Hi, Jimmy. I recently discovered your channel (thanks to Ultra Healthy) and wanted to ask you something: will you do reviews of adventure games such as "Cat The Ripper" (PS/SS), "B線上のAlice" (PS), "マリカ: 真実の世界" (SS), etc? I'm a huge adventure gamer and, sadly, these kind of games aren't covered by anyone. The few people that usually cover them, don't speak a single word of Japanese, making the whole video pointless to me. Ultra Healthy covered one (Planet Laika on Playstation) but since it's not his kind of game, he never reviewed another one. Since you also speak fluent Japanese, it would be awesome if you could review these kind of games from time to time. Anyway, thanks for the video uploads.

Thanks for popping in (I guess you found this unlisted video earlier because it was in my playlist, ha ha). Happy to hear you game here from UHVGN, a shame he's stepping away from RU-vid, but hopefully he will succeed in his dream of creating a game...and hopefully he'll come back to making videos when that's done! There are a few adventure type games I would like to do videos on and the ones you mentioned have been on my radar! If/when I do cover one, the first would probably be Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari for Saturn, Es on the Dreamcast or Kowloon's Gate on PS1. I was really leaning toward Planet Laika, but as you mentioned, Ultra did a video on it which I really enjoyed!

@@ImportGamingFTW The video was unlisted? Didn't know that since, indeed, I found it in the playlist. I'll also miss Ultra Healthy videos. I'm not very fond of shooters and platformers nowadays but he, as a person, has a certain charm that reels people in (something I've seen other people mention as well in the comments of his videos) Also, awesome news you are going to cover those games!! I speak some Japanese but adventure games are a bit out of my league. In fact, it was the PS1 game "Echo Night 2" the title that, finally, pushed me to (try to) learn the language.
